25.01.2022 At Kennedy Springs we are happy to share our home with the wildlife.
25.01.2022 Meet Kennedy Springs Christopher (Photo credit main photo - Maureen Carthy) At Kennedy Springs our main focus is producing quality butchers steers for the domestic market, and replacement heifers. But we decided to keep Chris as a bull. ... Breed: 3 generations of red Brangus sires - Jateebee, Duff and Bimbadeen, with a smidge of limousin 4 generations back. Age: 21 months. Feeding: After a solid weaning last June, feeding was soley on tropical pastures + an adlib quality phos/calcium lick. He never has a tick and copes well in the tropical climate. Chris recently passed his breeding fertility test with flying colours. There is a strong fertility record in his family tree including Grand dam, dam and full sisters. Will be sad when he moves on to his new home.
25.01.2022 Taking the good with the bad. After finishing the flood fencing along Kennedy Creek, hot and bothered, we can't help but admire mother nature. If we didn't have all those creek systems at Kennedy Springs we wouldn't have floods. But if we didn't have floods we wouldnt have such a beautiful property. We just need to live together.
25.01.2022 Another little video on Instagram.
24.01.2022 Smith-Douglas patoned dog pens. (We added poly pipe strips on the tin- human head and eye protector). Just need to sew the canvas drops for those rainy days and we are done.
24.01.2022 Me prepping tea for the slow cooker. So what's this got to do with KSCE??? Well, we only have solar power at our home farm and we dont like running the slow cooker off the system. So when we have no farmstay guests and we have a long day ahead I take advantage of the KSCE kitchen.. and mains power.
24.01.2022 Leave your worries at the gate when you stay at Kennedy Springs Country Escape. The farm house is a few hundred metres off the road (@ the end of the road) and you will feel miles from anyway.
23.01.2022 I can picture a hammock under this tree. Maybe when we finish fencing .
23.01.2022 Tiny's twins are going great-guns. And Jim the twins mum is due to calve again 10.5 months after giving birth to twins Jim and Charlie. Just incase she has twins again she is staying in the yards paddock so we can keep watch. She only accepted one last time.
23.01.2022 Kennedy Springs Christopher passes his breeding soundness check with flying colours.
22.01.2022 After a morning out in the paddock, it was time to put finishing touches to the holiday house before our guests arrive.
22.01.2022 Thanks to Emma, Shane, Jett and Woods Gelling we may get the occasional weekend off. Emma and Shane have a plan to one day own their own farm, and after staying at KSCE last month they expressed an interest in helping us on the occasional weekend so they can learn more about what’s involved in growing beef cattle. Look forward to seeing you on the 19th/20th. We will have weaners in the yard and new mob of butchers cattle to sort and start on their finishing ration. Always plenty to do.
22.01.2022 Good morning little fella. Welcome to the Kennedy Springs team. Dam - Dreams Reflection Sire - Kneipps Ransom.
22.01.2022 Time for a cuppa. We only had minor fence damage after the 3rd flood in a row. Just a couple of flood gates this time 'round. Phew.
21.01.2022 Tidying up the entrance.

20.01.2022 Midday siesta in a sandy, shady spot by Camp Ck.
20.01.2022 If you’re looking to do some nocturnal wildlife-spotting on your sanctuary, you might want to pay attention to the moon! A recent study has shown that mammalia...n predators and prey are more active on darker nights. However, many native birds such as willie wagtails prefer to sing under the light of a full moon! 20.01.2022 Jateebee Flame loves Duff Glen Idol.
19.01.2022 Its been a busy week so far and thanks to offsiders Dennis and Judi Bull, the jobs are ticking over fast.
19.01.2022 A cool creek, on a warm day.
18.01.2022 The fence along the driveway was dilapidated so we are replacing it. One side done today. The other tomorrow. Wildlife friendly fencing too - top plain wire.
18.01.2022 Wonderful selection of works at Cardwell Gallery.... if you haven’t been into the gallery for a while...come and take a lookgreat works by our wonderful local artists and craftspeople
17.01.2022 Alma Ck was up and fast flowing - too deep for the landcruiser, but we had to feed the butchers steers and shift them to a drier paddock. Thanks OJ Kioti.
17.01.2022 Weaner heifers out in the big paddock @ Kennedy Springs Brangus.
17.01.2022 No guests this weekend so we are making the most of winter bbq's @ Kennedy Springs.
16.01.2022 Friday's pick of pics at Kennedy Springs Brangus.
15.01.2022 The finishing line is near. After spot spraying giant paramatta grass, sicklepod and sedge for weeks we are close to finishing. Every year the job is getting less and less. We can't go backwards now. Hoping for a good grass growing year. The red dye is handy for tracking your spray efforts.
15.01.2022 When we bought our Kennedy Springs farm there was a little grape vine at the bore pump shed. We never tend to it and often forget to check it, but today we noticed a little surprise on the vine.... & they were actually really tasty.
15.01.2022 A talented friend Andrea Alsemgeest recently painted this Cassowary. Looks just like the one visiting our property not far from the homestead each morning. We dont see alot of rainforest fruits about so I am not sure what he/she is eating.
15.01.2022 Skipper's orientation day at KSCE.
14.01.2022 JATEEBEE BRANGUS Lots 214 - 220
14.01.2022 If you are passing this way and would like to see if our farmstay is your cuppa tea, give us a call and pop in and say g'day. (Photo credit Maureen Carthy)
13.01.2022 Sometimes I wish I could talk to animals. But then, it's probably not be a good idea. They may want to know why all the spoiling, and I dont want them to know their fate. Just enjoy life while they can. These butchers steers are half way through their finishing program.
12.01.2022 Many hands make light work .. and an early mark. Thanks Judi Bull for helping out at Kennedy Springs yesterday.
12.01.2022 We are doing some Reno's to the KSCE this year, but we will work around any bookings the best we can. If you plan on a staying with us, please let us know your proposed dates and we will work in around you.
12.01.2022 The next lot of milk tooth burchers steers started their 50 day finishing ration this week and already they have shined up and put on weight. We have a few mates in this lot. Not looking forward to seeing them go.
12.01.2022 It rained today. Whoo hoo.
12.01.2022 We are ordering a copy and it will take pride of place on the Kennedy Springs Country Escape voffee table. Daryl lives across the creek from us. A wonderful lady. An amazing artist.
11.01.2022 We dropped off this belated (Thx to flooding) b'day cake for one of our guests. Almond and carrot with cream cheese topping.. Mmmmm. Thanks for sharing. Half eaten before finding the candles. Happy birthday Murray.
11.01.2022 Last year we switched to Cydectin LA for our young cattle <500kg and Cydection Injectable for those over 500kg. Given we have soft cattle for the tropics - Limo and Angus cross, we were spraying cattle several times a year with Tack Tick. Since switching to the Cydection rotation we haven't needed to spray cattle since September last year. One less job and more weight gain for the cattle. We are doing another round of shots soon and hopefully the paddocks and cattle will remain free of cattle ticks.
10.01.2022 Kennedy Springs Oscar says, "Thank goodness the rain has stopped. Looking forward to some sunshine tomorrow."
10.01.2022 What are you Sept/Oct School holiday plans.?
08.01.2022 Congrats to local newlyweds Bec and Steven. We are excited you chose our property for one of your wedding photo locations. 1.10mins in, young heifer Kennedy Springs Pippa decides to invite herself to the wedding photo shoot .
07.01.2022 Calfs happy. Mum's happy. We're happy. We didn't think this fella was going to make it. 2 days ago he couldn't stand up. He had 2 days of colostrum from mum. What was wrong with him. Dehydrated still from earlier? I had no electrolytes on hand but gave him some of my staminade. Within an hour he was up and suckling again and on his own this time. Now he's up and about and doing well.
07.01.2022 Bulls are back to work soon so its time to sort replacement heifers. See who goes with who this round.
07.01.2022 That reminds me. We have some brangus bull and calf registrations to do soon enough.
07.01.2022 Kennedy Springs Elliot. Red Brangus (Reg). 17 months. Sire Jateebee Qualify Dam Jateebee Flame 293. Doing well on tropical coastal pasture and phos lick. No ticks. Polled. Quiet. Elliot will be looking for a good home later in the year.
06.01.2022 We are looking forward to a visit from Peter and Kristine Dingle, Redline Brangus early next month. I know you are on holidays Peter and Kristine but be prepared for a few questions from us about our breeding up to Brangus program.

Richard Gail Jaymi Brooke Ella Luke Dakoda Brendon and Halo have been back every year since, as well as recommending KSCE to all their friends. Thank-you for your continued support.

02.01.2022 The endangered Mahogany Glider is one of our rarest marsupials, found in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area in Queensland. This small arboreal marsupial is one... of 20 mammals targeted for recovery under the Australian Government’s Threatened Species Strategy. Mahogany Gliders are found in a small, narrow band of open, wet sclerophyll forest along the Queensland coast, north of Townsville. The species’ overall range remains stable however their available habitat within the area is being impacted due to clearing, and they also face threats from road strikes and predation from feral cats. To address these risks, conservation efforts have focused on restoring and managing habitat corridors. This includes revegetation projects, improving fire management practices, and installing signs and community engagement projects to raise awareness around Mahogany Glider habitat. For more information on the Mahogany Glider visit: https://www.environment.gov.au//20-mammals/mahogany-glider
02.01.2022 Sept 20 vs Sept 19 What a difference seasons make; as well as a little phosphorus fettilizer, improved paddock rotations and reduced stocking rates. Last dry season was horrendously and unexpectedly long and dry. We took measures to manage the pastures just in case it was repeated.
02.01.2022 We are enjoying a very good calving season at Kennedy Springs brangus.
02.01.2022 Keeping the images coming you say; so here are some I snapped of the amazing accommodation - forgive the clutter as we made our selves right at home. How could we not, in such an amazing location.
01.01.2022 Better click on the photo to see what the steers are looking at!!
01.01.2022 Sept School holidays aren't far away. Whether you are a little kid or big kid, there are plenty of things to keep you entertained at Kennedy Springs Country Escape. We still have vacancies..
