22.01.2022 NEWS | Insolvency Relief Extended for Businesses The Commonwealth Government has announced that temporary insolvency and bankruptcy protections will be extended until 31 December. Introduced in response to the Coronavirus in March, the amendments provided protection for businesses from insolvency and also protected Directors from personal liability while trading insolvent. There was concern that if the protections were not extended there would be a spike in insolvency and ban...kruptcy applications in October. This extension will provide additional time for business to recover. 16.01.2022 What is the PPP500? In February 2020 a pilot program was commenced within the family courts called the Priority Property Pool under $500,000.00 (PPP500). The program's main focus is to expedite proceedings for matters where the total assets of the relationship are less than $500,000.00, therefore reducing legal fees and preserving a greater portion of the total asset pool for the couple themselves. There is great potential for the PPP500 to assist not only victims of domestic... violence but also reduce the time delays experienced by others who are just simply unable to reach an agreed property adjustment on their own. For any questions relating to parenting, property, or separation, please call our experienced team on 1800 650 656. We're here to help you and your family. Lauren Ryan | Solicitor

01.01.2022 Fair Work Changes to Provide Flexibility for Recovering Businesses The Federal Parliament is today debating changes to the Fair Work Act to assist businesses on the road to recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully many businesses have recovered fully and will no longer be eligible for Jobkeeper, however there are many whose revenue is still impacted and which will face challenges in keeping staff.... Normally a stand down would not be available and employers would be left with the unenviable position of keeping people on or making the position redundant. The proposed changes, which have support from all sides of politics, will allow employers to reduce staff hours to 60% of their pre-pandemic hours, where the employer suffers a downturn in revenue of between 10% and 30%. This is a sensible response which keeps staff employed, reduces redundancies and also means key employees are ready and able to work in the business when things pick up. It will hopefully head off widespread business failures and redundancies when the Jobkeeper eligibility is tightened up u from 1 October. For advice or help for your business contact our experienced team on 1800 650 656. Were here to help!
