21.01.2022 Hollow form 2014 - Liquidamber & Red Ironbark funnel. 140 mm x 135mm. The Liquidamber came from a tree growing in a friends' backyard that they had to remove because a neighbour complained. It is an easy timber to work being a moderately hard softwood. The red ironbark is a different kettle of fish and has to be handled with care. However, it polishes really well and the result is well worth the trouble.

19.01.2022 Serving Board, 600mm x 240mm. Grey ironbark. Finished with pure Tung Oil.

16.01.2022 On Thursday Boroondara Council had a very large plane tree (about 30 metres) cut down as it was considered 'unsafe'. So, I managed to 'acquire' (with Council ap...proval) two logs, the first is from the trunk and the second from one of the lower branches. The first I estimate weight around 106 kgs and the second about 45kgs so the blokes doing the job kindly put them on my nature strip (stubbies fo their effort). I spent most of Friday cutting them up. Wielding a chain saw, social distancing was not an issue. And, the garden is now mulched with wood shavings. Plane tree is a beautiful wood with a very unusual grain. Although the wood in the fourth photo is mainly pink, it will dry over time to a much paler colour. See more

06.01.2022 Hello folks, Injury almost fixed. The surgeon did an excellent job, firstly in stiching up the gash as the scar is barely visible and second, as the tendon was crushed he had to overlap the ends slightly to stiched it together. The tendon will take a bit more therapy but confident that I will get almost full movement back in the index finger. Given that we are now in virtual lockdown because of this very inconvenient virus, I will spend some time retrieving photos of earlie...r pieces and put them on this page and also my blog so keep watching! And, many thanks to all those people all over the world and whom I obviously have not met, for your best wishes. Best regards, KenM See more
