24.01.2022 Kentish U3A Walking for Leisure group had their first walk for this semester to Redwater Creek falls and cave. Margaret McLachlan led the group along the Tasmanian Trail track from Sheffield and return. This walk is just perfect to start the year as it is a nice flat track with a short down hill to the falls and cave. Many of the group after the walk enjoyed a lunch together at The Blacksmiths. Looking forward to the next outing in The Badgers.

22.01.2022 Sisters Beach to Boat Harbour and return. Five U3A walkers followed the low tide track to Boat Harbour. We all enjoyed a meal at the Cafe and headed back taking the alternate high tide track for some variety and to miss a few of the rocky beach crossings. I struggled with the heat and lack of fitness but Bob had time to catch up on a few cups of tea waiting for us to catch up. Thanks Margaret for another great Kentish U3A Walking for Leisure outing. Thanks Jane for driving us safely home.

We saw bright yellow orchids, bright orange fungi, 2 magnificent waterfalls, large wombat, soaring eagles, shy black tiger snake, beautiful buttongrass plains, swinging bridge and much, much more. There were definitely some challenging water crossings, leeches, and insect bites we could of done without but overall a fantastic experience. Thank you Margaret for your leadership, experience and knowledge to allow us to have this very memorable experience.

10.01.2022 Today the What bird is that group walked through the Sykes Reserve in Railton. Not a lot of birds around today. The heron and endemic yellow- throated honeyeater were the stars of today. (Images by Paul below) A fortnight ago we strolled around the Arboretum and Paul identified many birds also photographing a beautiful firetail feeding on the side of the track and a swan with her fluffy bub on the water. Thanks Paul. Looking forward to the next field trip to Pig Island.

02.01.2022 On a recent What bird is that group outing with leader Paul Fraser we walked around Pig Island. We firstly spotted the Nankeen Night Heron resting in the pine trees, they were hard to see but some did fly to another tree when workers started their chainsaw when we had completed the circuit. The grey fantails were about entertaining as always. A pair of Green Rosellas made a noisy entrance and were happy to pose for Paul to capture the image below. We startled a Brush Bronzewing who was foraging to the side of the track which flew up to land in a tree not far along the track and watched us pass. Another great outing enjoyed by all.
