25.01.2022 Here is some helpful information from our friends at the QLD Rural Fire Brigade about preparing your home for the upcoming fire season.

25.01.2022 Things we need to stop saying to men: - Man up - Boys don’t cry - Men and boys don’t need help ... This year’s International Men’s Day theme is about better health for men and boys. Today on IMD 2020 we say thanks to the fathers, husbands, brothers and sons across the RFS. Look after yourselves and thank you for all that you do.

18.01.2022 Greater Sydney Region will experience Very High Fire Danger across Saturday. Hot, dry and windy conditions mean that any fires may be difficult to control. Review your bushfire survival plan with your family. Keep yourself informed and monitor the conditions. Be ready to act if necessary. Please call 000 immediately if you see a fire without a fire truck in attendance.... Keep upto date on fires that are burning using the Fires Near Me NSW app on your smart device. #NSWRFS

15.01.2022 On Wednesday evening the Brigade was privileged to have our local MP Mr Greg Warren present our fire fighters with the Premiers Citation for their efforts during the 19/20 fire season. Greg also presented the Captain with a certificate of appreciation and an address he made in parliament.

13.01.2022 Know what to do when you hear a siren or see the flashing blue or red lights of an approaching emergency vehicle? When you hear a siren or see the flashing blue or red lights of an approaching emergency vehicle: * Give way to the emergency vehicle if you are stopped do not move until it is safe to proceed, even if the traffic light is green. If you are moving, you must slow down and stop if necessary to avoid a collision with the emergency vehicle.... * Move out of the way as soon as you can safely do so * Move over as much as you can to the left-hand side of the road or, if possible, move onto the road shoulder or breakdown lane. On multi-lane roads, try to move into the left lane to let the emergency vehicle pass * Drivers on both sides of the road should be prepared to move out of the path of emergency vehicles * Emergency vehicles with sirens sounding or lights flashing responding to urgent situations are not required to follow the rules, as long as it is safe for them to do so. Drivers should always be extra cautious when they see flashing lights or hear sirens. https://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au//approaching-emerg

13.01.2022 The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), together with the NSW Police Force, are committed to fighting arson, including dumped cars, but particularly bush fire arson. Bush fire arson is dangerous. It can destroy lives, properties and have long term effects on the environment, not to mention having great financial costs. If you see something that looks out of place, this may be what Police are looking for: - If you can, record the details of suspicious vehicles, including the make, m...odel and registration plate - Take note of the appearance of anyone acting suspiciously by the side of a road, or at an odd time of the day or night Report suspicious behaviour to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. 12.01.2022 Got nothing planned this weekend, why not spend 5 mins on www.myfireplan.com.au

10.01.2022 You should be aware of any Neighbourhood Safer Places in your area, and note them in your bush fire survival plan before a bush fire occurs. You should also know how to get there, as well as alternate routes in case the road is blocked or too dangerous to drive on. For a map visit http://ow.ly/sic350C0yC2. A Neighbourhood Safer Place is designed as a Place of Last Resort in bush fire emergencies only. Please note that travelling to or sheltering at a Neighbourhood Safer Place does not guarantee your safety. #nswrfs #prepared #greatersydneyAC

08.01.2022 Late this afternoon it was decided to cancel the Peter Meadows HR for this weekend. While we have had some rain in the past days, the fuel moisture across the site was actually too dry and below the allowed threshold suitable for burning. This dryness is forecast to increase tomorrow as lower humidity is expected in the morning and during the day. Friday afternoon was spent with the Burn Incident Controller and the Operations team discussing alternatives on how they could im...plement the burn, whilst maintaining the desired low intensity, but were unable to resolve a suitable strategy. Significant work has been put into the planning for the execution of the burn, both volunteers and staff, so this decision hasn't come easily. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and will advise when the burn is rescheduled. We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

07.01.2022 The rain is welcome but it brings another risk. As grass dries out, the risk of dangerous grass fires increases. Grass fires are dangerous - they start easily and spread quickly. Check www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/grassfires for tips on getting ready this season. #NSWRFS
