18.01.2022 From KASA Dear Kenyans, As you know, the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation is changing rapidly. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has already declared COVID-19 a global health pandemic. The Australian Government has already announced a plethora of far-reaching social distancing polices. ... Furthermore, yesterday, the Government of South Australia, in tandem with the Federal Government has declared a state of public health emergency thereby unleashing a wide range of social distancing guidelines, whose compliance is now mandated by law. Stiff penalties (including jail time) for non-compliance have now been outlined. We recognise that this issue remains at the forefront of the wider Australian and the global community and can be stressful, confusing and worrying. As always, your health, safety and wellbeing are of utmost priority to KASA and we urge everyone to remain calm and alert. Naturally these high anxiety, confusing situations attract a proliferation of information from various sources all trying to make sense of the situation. Some of the information can potentially be quite useful while others, despite best intention, can be misleadingly out of kilter with the reality. KASA therefore recommends that we endeavour to regularly familiarise ourselves with the information from the right sources as this will keep you adequately informed of the rapidly changing landscape and enhance your opportunities for staying safe. We strongly recommend regular, probably daily review of the following links for your travel and health information on COVID-19: Immigration restrictions (Dept of Home Affairs) Department of Health Smartraveller Additionally, the official news channel on National television have maintained a well updated broadcast of the developments as they arise. Please stay regularly tuned. Please let us endeavour to stay calm look out for each other. If you individually are struggling to decipher all this, please feel to approach KASA for further guidelines. To echo the words of the Australian Prime Minister We will all sail through this together Thank You DK KASA President

09.01.2022 Dear Kenyans, The challenges before us due to the Covid-19 ) are mind boggling. As a people who love the Lord, we are in a better position to take it to the Him in prayer. Among our temporary visa holders, particularly the students, majority are in bad state. Am organising details to present to both the Australian government and our Kenyan government. May I request all of you to send through to me the following:- (a) No. of destressed Kenyans in NSW who have (i) Lost their j...obs (ii) Flights cancelled (iii) Finding it extremely hard to cope with the restrictions (iv) etc. all as a result of this Covid-19 issue. (b) If you can get, their contact details - anticipating that something will come through to support them in some way. (c) The no. Of those destressed due to family, work & uni/school commitments. At this time, could you make an effort to reach to those in your circle checking how the are using variuos means. Together as a community, we can pull through knowing that the Lord is in control. 05.01.2022 This is a fundraising appeal for Joyce Mwai, a recent graduate of Deakin University here in Australia. Her mom came for her graduation on 1st December and unfortunately she got a stroke afterwards during her visit. She has been admitted in the Royal Melbourne hospital ever since and the current medical bill is over $100,000 AUD . Yesterday, 7/01/2020, her Dad in Kenya suddenly died presumably of a heart attack. It is very unfortunate and the family is in need of all the suppo...rt we can offer them. We are humbly appealing to the Kenyan Community for financial assistance at this time so we can stand with this family even during this difficult season. Your prayers are also much appreciated. Bank details for contributions are as follows: Name: Joyce Mwai BSB: 193879 Account: 441243681 Bank : Bank of *Melbourne A little goes a long way and whatever you are able to contribute, we thank you and pray that God will bless you in advance. https://www.gofundme.com/f/kenyans-for-a-kenyan-joyce-mwai

02.01.2022 Sydney news: Bushfires ease with rain and cooler temperatures, fireworks found at Sydney grassfire destroyed vehicles and trailers after a fire Bushfire devastation in Wingello, in the NSW Southern Highlands. Here's what you need to know this morning.... Easing conditions after horror weekend Cooler weather and rain is giving firefighters the chance to catch their breath and strengthen containment lines on the 139 bushfires burning across the state. All fires have been downgraded to advice level. Parts of the fire are burning in inaccessible country and heading in a north-westerly direction towards Bombala. The Rural Fire Service said at least 60 properties were lost across the state this weekend, but expected that number to rise. The Southern Highlands appear to have been the worst hit with at least 10 properties damaged in the villages of Kangaroo Valley and Wingello, while a 47-year-old man was killed in the Dunns Road fire near Batlow.
