08.01.2022 MAGIC OF STORYTIME TO RE-COMMENCE February will see the return of United Way Glenelg’s Magic of Storytime after last year’s schedule was interrupted by the pa...ndemic. The program will pick up directly from where it was left with CEO’s delivering their toughest career challenge yet, reading aloud to children! CEOs from Portland’s business and community sector will read their favourite childhood book to local children providing a rich and meaningful experience and sparking the children's’ imagination at a time when they are most curious about the world. Nicole Carr, United Way Glenelg Executive Officer, said it is important to get children excited about reading, inspire their imaginations and let them have fun with stories. The Magic of Storytime builds on the work of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, encouraging the whole community to get behind early literacy, improving language and literacy skills. It improves outcomes for families, ultimately preparing the child for school, said Mrs Carr. The first CEO to read is Julie Amor, from Kyeema Support Services, Portland. Julie will read one of her favourite and much-loved #dollypartonimaginationlibrary book Slinky Malinki by Lynley Dodd. Casey Marlow, Glenelg Libraries Children’s and Youth Services Officer, will support Magic of Storytime by reading several additional books. Lookout in March, for when Keppel Prince Engineering Pty Ltd General Manager Dan McKinna reads his favourite book. The event is COVID-safe but it does mean no activities and singing at this stage. Children attending will have the chance to win a copy of the book being read and every child will be given an activity pack to complete at home. Limited numbers, bookings essential Contact Glenelg Libraries 5522 2265. This is a FREE event. CEO Magic of Storytime runs the first Friday of every month during school terms from 11.00am at Glenelg Libraries Bentinck Street, Portland. A partnership with United Way Glenelg, Portland Aluminium and Glenelg Libraries supporting the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. For more information on the CEOs Magic of Storytime go to United Way Glenelg Facebook events page www.facebook.com//unitedwayglenelg/events or contact Nicole Carr on 0410 513305 or [email protected] Photo: Julie Amor from Kyeema Support Services looking forward to reading to the children in February. #magicofstorytime #unitedwayglenelg #unitedway #portlandaluminium Alcoa #DollysLibrary
