24.01.2022 Meet the Artist - Robert Read Robert is multi-skilled artisan based in rural Central Queensland. Using traditional Blacksmithing and Leatherworking techniques, Robert enjoys making practical items that can be used in everyday life, with creative flair. Robert has a pleasant, inclusive and supportive teaching style, and is generous with sharing his extensive knowledge. Workshop Title: Leather Belt Making... In this hands-on workshop, local leather artisan Robert Read will take you through the basics of creating a leather belt. Take home your own handmade belt from this exciting workshop! At the end of the day, you will have completed your own 38mm full grain leather belt that will only get better with age, developing a deep, luxurious patina as only leather can. From selecting the right piece of leather, to what hardware and tools you need, to getting the perfect measurements, you will learn everything you need to know for crafting handmade leather belts. You will try your hand at punching holes in leather, burnishing edges, and setting rivets and snaps. This workshop includes full-grain leather in your choice of brown or black, a half buckle, finishes, materials and use of tools. No previous experience is required. What are you waiting for? www.keppelcoastarts.org.au/artworkshops

15.01.2022 Meet The Workshop Artist: Shelley Engwirda ~ Give it a Crack! Glass Fusing Introduced to fusible glass in the late 90’s, Shelley still finds glass fusing challenging, sometimes unpredictable but always rewarding. Glass can be hard or soft, fragile or strong and is often perceived as fragile and weak. Shelley likes to weave these characteristics into her concepts to reflect issues of sustainability, feminism and other changes within modern society. Her goal is to make object...s that spark curiosity and stimulate thought, compel the viewer to think about their position relative to the subject matter. Sound like fun? 04.01.2022 Meet The Workshop Artist: Linda Douglas ~ Random Round Weave Baskets Artist, printmaker, ceramicist. Making art is an exhilarating and ever-changing process and the natural surroundings are integral to Linda’s work, whether it’s dyeing and printing fabric and paper with plants or using them to create monoprints which form a backdrop to the text and image. Her prints and artist books are fueled by a curiosity of contrasts - past and present, the mix of various mediums - clay,... paper, fabric and glass - and narratives that are real or imagined. Linda lives in Brisbane, teaches workshops nationally and visits Rockhampton regularly, having completed tertiary education at CQU and worked in the region for several years. She is a member of the Capricornia Printmakers Inc. and the Capricornia Potters Group. To see how clever Linda is, check out her LinkedIn link: https://www.linkedin.com/in/linda-douglas-8509184b/ This course is in high demand so we've created a wait list: http://www.keppelcoastarts.org.au/artworkshops #art #artist #visitcapricorn #yeppoon #buylocal #buylocalgivelocalthischristmas See more
