23.01.2022 The oldest Keppel Islands reefs are 7700 years old according to a new study. They have continued growing in spite of sea level and climate changes over that time. 19.01.2022 Reef scientists believe Keppel Bay could provide a sanctuary for corals in the face of climate change. They've spent the past decade studying 7000-year-old cora...l skeletons, discovering our region's reefs can tolerate extreme sea temperature changes. www.7NEWS.com.au #7NEWS

14.01.2022 We are excited to announce a new addition to the Keppel Islands website. Gordon La Praik is a citizen scientist who devoted decades of his life to studying, identifying and documenting the soft corals and mollusc of the Keppels and Southern Great Barrier Reef. Gordon has allowed us to share his stunning photographs and unique story through a new website: The Gordon La Praik Soft Coral Soft corals and molluscs (Ovulidae) of the Keppel Islands, southern Great Barrier Reef.... https://softcorals.keppels.com.au We recommend clicking on each image to bring up the full resolution image. These photos are spectacular. Each mollusc is highly specialised to blend in to it's host coral. A collection like this is never going to be repeated as some of the specimens were found at depths of up to 20m.
