04.01.2022 Dear Parents, It has been brought to our attention from the NSW Health department that their is a Viral Gastroenteritis outbreak at the moment. In the last two weeks, there has been a large outbreak of gastroenteritis in early childhood centres. ... Viral gastroenteritis is a common intestinal infection caused by a number of different viruses, usually resulting in vomiting and/or diarrhoea. Norovirus infections are the most common cause during the cooler months. Rotavirus is the most common cause of severe gastroenteritis in early childhood globally. Immunisation to prevent rotavirus infection is recommended at an early age. Viral gastroenteritis is highly infectious and may spread rapidly in child care centres. It is spread by the vomit or faeces of an infected person either; or consuming food or drink contaminated with vomit or faeces. Viruses are often spread from person-to-person on unwashed hands. We at the centre are always encouraging the children to uphold effective health and hygiene practices at all times and are always encouraged to each their hands with soap and water after using the toilet and at before and after meal times. If your child has come down with either vomiting and/or diarrhoea it is important that they remain at home and are excluded from the centre. Bringing your child into the centre when sick can spread to other children and also staff. If your child has come down with either vomiting and/or diarrhoea than they must be excluded from the centre for at least 48 hours after their symptoms settle. Thank you for your understanding.
