27.01.2022 It’s been awhile since I have put up a post between interstate move and a new job time has just flown by. In January this year we adopted a beautiful five-month-old Catahoula x named Lexi-Lou. She has been an amazing addition to our family and settled in very well. Over the next few weeks I will be posting a few training tips and videos Covering some of the 101 basics to which I consider essential for training. If you Have any inquiries in regards to private dog training please message me via this page.

24.01.2022 Welcome everyone to 2020! I hope you all had a very enjoyable Christmas and a well deserved break. I am now back in Weipa and available for Canine Consultations once again. With Wet Season upon us a few of our canine friends will be feeling anxious with the almost daily thunder storms, Storm Phobias range in severities and can be extremely stressful for owners and potentially dangerous for the affected dog. Management usually consists of a combination of Behavioural Training Assistance as well as both over the counter and Vet Prescribed Products.

22.01.2022 TOXIC FOODS In keeping with the toxic theme, and the season , this post is about grapes...and raisins, sultanas, currants and any other grape in the fresh or ...dried form! All of these can cause kidney failure. We are currently seeing cases because of Christmas baking with an assortment of irresistible fruit cakes, fruit mince pies, fruit puddings, etc The toxic component of the grape is not known and so there is no known toxic dose. This is the reason that you may have fed your pet grapes previously and nothing happened, but next time it may only take a few grapes and they go into acute renal failure. Clinical signs include vomiting, diarrhoea (often contains fruit), lethargy, drooling, drinking and urinating more than usual. Signs may not occur until several days after ingestion, but once damage has occurred it is often irreversible. Treatment involves decontamination soon after ingestion by inducing vomiting, activated charcoal, increasing gut transit time and most importantly IV fluids. The patient is hospitalised on IV fluids for several days after decontamination, with daily monitoring of kidney enzymes, to minimise the likelihood of permanent kidney damage. Prognosis with immediate decontamination is excellent. Prognosis for full recovery once clinical signs occur are guarded. It is best to talk to your local emergency centre if your dog/cat has accessed the kitchen cupboards, or you notice dried fruit in their stool. Quick treatment will result in a better outcome! The little guy below vomited up 800g (!!) of currants and dates that were destined for Christmas treats. He spent a few nights with us on fluids (alternating between his regular vet during the day and us at night) and went home to hopefully have an uneventful remainder of his Christmas.

22.01.2022 I recently had the pleasure of working with this lovely young lady Zena and assisting her owners in managing her anxiety during thunderstorms and other stressful situations. they were already doing many things to help her, and with a little extra guidance are well on their way to slowly re-building her confidence and Managing her behaviours, Knowing they are doing everything they can. Well done to you all!

21.01.2022 I would like to thank everyone who has "liked" and supported me this year. Before I embark on a 2 week break I would like to remind everyone of a few dangers we need to be aware of to ensure the safety of our canine friends during this festive season. So lets look at the "12 days of a Safe Pet Christmas", or essentially the top 12 reasons dogs are taken to Emergency Vets over Christmas. 1. Pancreatitis - often caused by giving different or higher fatty foods which they don't ...Continue reading

19.01.2022 There is no better reward than taking on a rescue dog or a dog which for one reason or another needs a new home. They can quickly embed themselves into our hearts and homes. For many of theses dogs they have a story to tell, unfortunately one they can not communicate to us. Or can they? Rescue Dogs need time to feel loved, safe and to develop trust with their owners. How can they train when they are waiting for their world to turn upside down again? Be patient with your Rehomed Rescue and they will reward you 10 times over. If you have taken on a rescue or rehomed dog feel free to share a picture below!

18.01.2022 Freddie is dearly loved by his family but unfortunately his coat got away from them and had no option but to shave off today. Luckily he doesnt mind at all

17.01.2022 Practice training your dog in problematic situations when you actually have some free time. Too many people get frustrated when their dog misbehaves in certain ...situations, but they never take the time to actually practice those situations. Instead, they struggle to get their dog under control when they're stressed and overwhelmed, then once they've got their dog to listen they move on. But that's when the real learning starts, once you've got your dog under control, so you need to set up scenarios where you don't have to move on immediately, so you can practice and improve your dog's reliability. 17.01.2022 Wishing all my clients, supporters and fellow canine lovers a very Happy Easter!

14.01.2022 Morning Weipa .....If you happen to see any of my clients around town wearing these "In Training" Orange bandanas please do not allow your dog to approach without first asking. Their owners are working on issues such as lead pulling, jumping on people, barking, over excitable behaviours or anxiety. It will help immensely if you always ask first if you and your dog can approach. Obviously with most of us staying home at the moment and Social Distancing in place many people are not out walking their dogs , but those who are remember to abide by the recommendations. Home Confinement is the perfect time to work on those training or behaviour issues you haven't had the chance to address! Thank you "Geoff" and Jess Mazzocato for modelling the bandanas. Thank you! Julie from JarliJay Designs for making my custom bandanas.

13.01.2022 It means so much to our dogs to be understood by us, even when they use their subtlest of body language.

13.01.2022 Thought for the day.....,.. Remember your dog needs mental stimulation and exercise just as much as it needs physical

12.01.2022 I always educate my clients to turn the packet over and read the ingredient listing. The old saying what you pay for is what you get is often true. This post is not designed to put you off feeding your pet commercial food but be aware what you are buying and feeding to them. Home-made diets can be a wonderful thing but people often come on down because they are not balanced. Just like we should be aware of what were putting into our bodies the same goes for our canine friends.

12.01.2022 Congratulations to Harry for completing puppy parenting level 1. This tenacious little puppy loves the mental stimulation That training provides. His owners have been working very hard with them and are doing an amazing job. Keep up the good work!

11.01.2022 Indoor Plants are becoming very popular now so hopefully this list is helpful for both Dogs and Cats.

08.01.2022 Congratulations to Geoff for completing his Canine College Level 1 training. The end result is a more confident little dog, no un warranted barking and a happy owner. Well done to Jess for putting in an amazing effort! Jess Mazzocato

02.01.2022 I always encourage people to read the ingredient listings not only on their pet food but also their dog treats. Sugar, salt, artificial colourings and flavours are commonly used. Try to buy Australian made where possible and try to avoid the cheap and nasty treats where possible
