15.01.2022 Anxiety in children/teenagers is becoming an increasing problem brought on by a more complex and stressful world. Some people say that ‘kids just need to harden up’, well in a roundabout way teaching children/teenagers how to better cope with anxiety and their worries is doing exactly that by increasing their resilience and coping skills. Although it is always better for young people to see a professional some don’t or aren’t able to however they still need help. That is why ...self-help programs like The BRAVE Program have been developed. The BRAVE Program that is a free interactive online program for the treatment of anxiety in young people 7-17 years old. This program is designed to be done as self-help it is still preferable to complete the program with a professional to get the most out of it. If you have any further questions on The BRAVE Program or other programs similar to this for adults please feel free to contact me.

15.01.2022 DO CHILDREN REALLY UNDERSTAND COVID-19? I know many people will groan at yet ANOTHER post about COVID-19 however, this is about helping children. The bombardment of information can be overwhelming and constantly changing. Most children have problems processing this information so COVID-19 is still a bit of a mystery. To try and help with this I have attached a link to a Google Drive folder where I will be putting some resources, stories and activities to help children/teens.... There are 2 stories there at the moment but I will be adding to the folder regularly. I am available for a chat or vent if you need, by video call, phone call or online chat/text. Thanks and stay safe. https://drive.google.com/open

08.01.2022 Thank you to our "everyday hero's", the undercover superhero's that, without expectation of recognition or a pat on the back, go out of their way to help others even at their own expense. These might be your neighbours or even someone you don't even know. Recently I have been reflecting on the past year and what has come from the tragedy of Tropical Cyclone Debbie and the devastation left behind. While doing this I realised that so many people who gave their time to help oth...ers haven’t been really thanked and recognised. Not because it is taken for granted or intentionally forgotten, just because it was such a traumatic time that people were just coping and not thinking clearly. So I want to say thank you to the people that cleared roads and other people’s driveways and properties while their houses lay in ruins, to the people who opened their homes to others that were in need of somewhere to stay and/or the people that gave some of the few things they had left to help others who had nothing. Thank you to everyone who sacrificed themselves to help others even if you didn't know them. Thank you to the counsellors that were on the ground straight afterwards and the service providers that were open within days providing emergency relief and making sure forgotten communities got what they needed. There are so many acts of kindness and self-sacrifice that I can mention them all, but to you I also say thank you. Maybe this is a time for all of us to thank the everyday hero’s in our lives. If you are lost for words you are welcome to tag these people into the post or just share the picture.

03.01.2022 As a parent I can't imagine having to deal with the death of one of my children. Unfortunately some parents have to live with this and find a way to move on. The Whitsunday Health Service has started a support group for parents that are dealing with pain and loss.
