17.01.2022 A late-talker is a child between the ages of 0-3 years whose language does not develop as expected. A late-talker will have a good understanding of language while not using as many words as other children of the same age. It is estimated that 10% to 20% of children under 3 years are late-talkers.

17.01.2022 There are so many opportunities to use and model language in our day to day lives - often without even knowing that we are doing it! Board games are a fantastic way to build a child's turn-taking skills, expand upon their language skills, practice their counting, and model appropriate emotional regulation! What's your favourite game? #speechpathology #speechtherapy

10.01.2022 Can you help my child who stutters? Speech therapy has been found to be beneficial for individuals who stutter. Approaches will vary depending on the child's age. Kerridyn will assess your child's stutter and determine the best approach, in collaboration with parents. What can I do right now? When talking to your child do not interrupt them, ask them to stop and take a breathe and/or finish what they are saying for them. Allow your child the time to say what they want, focusing on what they say and not on how they say it.

10.01.2022 For many of our children, change is tough! The transition back to school after holidays can be very challenging for lots of families. A routine, supported by visual prompts, can support your child to manage change and smooth the transition back into the school term. #speechpathology

08.01.2022 Most children say all sounds correctly by the age of 4 years. Speech Sound Disorders (SSDs) is an umbrella term for a range of difficulties, including articulation impairments (e.g. a lisp) and phonology difficulties (patterns of incorrect sound productions). A Speech Pathologist can diagnose and treat children with speech delays and difficulties. Contact Kerridyn Riding to book a Speech appointment or to find out more: [email protected] - 0404 941 406

08.01.2022 3-5year old winner Speech Pathology Australia Book of the year.

08.01.2022 Lots of parents wonder how they can support their child to be involved in shared book reading, before they know how to read the words. We can actually start to teach 'knowledge of print' skills before children learn how to read the words. By recognising where the words are on the page, what the punctuation markers mean, and spotting specific letters in words, we can support early literacy development. #literacy #speechpathology #sp #slp #speeechie

03.01.2022 According to Speech Pathology Australia, Speech Pathologists study, diagnose and treat communication disorders, including difficulties with speaking, listening, understanding language, reading, writing, social skills, stuttering and using voice. They work with people who have difficulty communicating because of developmental delays, stroke, brain injuries, learning disability, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, dementia and hearing loss, as well as other problems that can affect speech and language. People who experience difficulties swallowing food and drink safely can also be helped by a speech pathologist.

02.01.2022 Social skills are important pre-cursers to friendship skills. Social skills include: -Using and understanding body language -Using and understanding gestures -Reading facial expressions... -Noticing how others are behaving and reacting -Considering how someone else feels. For some children, these skills need to be explicitly talk - A Speech Pathologist can support your child to learn these social skills and support friendship development. #speechpathology #socialskills #asd #autism
