24.01.2022 Emerald State High School ceremony this morning highlighted an outstanding group of young students in leadership roles who made an Affirmation of Office which in part read "I promise to lead by good example, participate in the full life of the school and to enhance our best tradition. I promise to conduct myself in a manner which always brings credit upon myself, my school and my family." I thought that as I approach this Election. that it is so relevant to replace the word school with Council and that would be a worthy oath that all councillors might take. Congratulations to the leadership group and all the Senior School as they embark on the final part of their school journey. https://www.facebook.com/emeraldshs/

23.01.2022 The Right Result Electors of the Central Highlands, We are now at the end of the pre-election period and most of you have now cast your vote for Mayor and councillors for the next four years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that have supported me during this campaign and inspired me to offer my service to the people of the Region as your Mayor. My belief is as strong as ever that I am the best candidate to lead this community forward to the future we ...want for ourselves and our families. My experience and skills are what is required for our economy as we confront difficult times and my leadership will create a cohesive, hardworking council that is responsive and responsible. My sincere congratulations to all candidates who have put themselves forward and know that whatever the result, you are better for this experience and have contributed already. Good luck to you all. http://www.ecq.qld.gov.au//2016-local-gov/election-results See more

21.01.2022 Divisive Levees The single biggest issue that has been raised by electors in the region and particularly around Emerald is the continuing uncertainty around proposed levee banks. My response follows http://kerryhayes.com.au/2016/02/19/emerald-flood-levees/

07.01.2022 You dont have to look very far to find inspiration in this region. I dropped in to see Craig and Bindi Pressler at 2PH on Selma Road just south west of Emerald as they were packing limes from their orchards. The Pressler family lost every single citrus tree from their farms in and around Emerald in 2005 to an outbreak of citrus canker. The loss of income, loss of jobs and toll on the family was immense. I was acting Mayor at the time and witnessed first hand the angst they, ...and the other citrus growers in the region experienced. But rather than lament their incredible loss and the circumstances around the outbreak of disease, the Pressler family decided to head for the future, to use the blank canvas that was their bare paddocks and create a new, better, smarter horticultural business. So on the 1st July 2007, to the cheers of a gathering of their friends, family, and locals who had supported the family, truckloads of nursery seedlings rolled onto 2PH and replanting commenced. There are now over 300,000 seedless Murcott and Imperial mandarins, lemons and limes planted over 700 hectares with the majority of fruit headed for export markets and specialty local markets. They also grow 200 hectares of table grapes to round out their annual production. They employ over 100 people on an almost permanent basis and currently have a staff of 320-350 for about 4 months of the year. And dozens of local businesses benefit from this massive operation. But their plans for the future are to expand their production by 30% and increase planted hectares at an annual rate of 15-20%. Craig and Bindi as usual were in the packing sheds on Saturday making sure that the fruit they take great pride in, is packed and presented to the high standards that their customers expect. They are a truly inspirational family. I was fortunate to be there on that magic day that the trucks rolled in to replant, and there is a murcott tree planted for each and everyone that was there on that memorable day in the paddock next to the packing shed. And on Saturday I made sure to look at my tree and saw that it was tall and healthy and productive. Just like the Presslers. The 2PH business stands as a great example of the success that comes with resolve and hard work. Standing up in the face of adversity and building a better future. And thats what I will bring to the position of Mayor with your support.

02.01.2022 From little things big things grow... John and Mary Walter had no idea that the small macadamia orchard they decided to plant in 2002 would end up attracting one of the largest macadamia nut growers in the world to their property... http://emeraldland.com.au/fromlittlethingsbigthingsgrow/

02.01.2022 In my view the greatest honour you can have at community level is to have the chance to be the Mayor of the region where you were born, raised a family, made a business and experience a lifestyle second to none. And if that chance is mine, I know I can make a significant difference. I have taken and succeeded at many challenges through my work and my 15 years of experience in local Government because of my communication skills, my great knowledge of the entire Central Queensl...and area and my effectiveness in a cohesive Council team. From being patron of the ESHS Student Council to Chairing the CBD revitalisation and contributing to Valuation groups and Regional Networks my community engagement is wideranging and widely sought. And now is a time for strong leadership. I will be a Mayor who provides confidence and direction to our leadership team so that our Council delivers the outcomes that Central Highlanders need and expect. See more

01.01.2022 The End of an Era Mayor Peter Maguire celebrated with family, friends and current and former councillors and staff as he closed off on 28 years of Local Government on Saturday night. During the celebration guests were eagerly watching updates on the 2016 elections which look to have returned 4 of Peters last council and Kerry Hayes leading the Mayoral race. The Central Highlands farewells a great leader and Peter and Jo and family are looking forward to the next chapter in their lives. Good Luck Peter.
