21.01.2022 No matter your child’s age, preparing them for a COVID-19 test will help make the experience a little easier for them. . Here are a few tips on how to prepare ...your child: Paint a picture for them: describe in age appropriate detail what they can expect before you head out. This should include where they will go, who will be there, what they will see and how long it will take. Let them know that friendly staff will be wearing masks, caps, gowns and gloves to protect themselves and others from getting sick. Keep them distracted during the wait with their favourite toy, books, music, or a movie/TV show on your phone or tablet. Explain that they’ll put a little stick with a soft end in their nose and mouth, and that it won’t hurt but might feel funny. Plan a fun ‘reward’ that they will get at home after the test (your child will need to self-isolate until they’ve received a negative test result and their symptoms have resolved). . If your child doesn’t like being touched or gets scared in clinical settings, please let the staff know and they’ll work out a way to keep your child feel calm and comforted. See more

15.01.2022 Did you know Easter egg foil can be recycled? Just make sure there’s no chocolate left in the foil, then scrunch it into good-sized balls (about the si...ze of a tennis ball) and pop the foil into your yellow bin for recycling. Our tip is to keep all your small egg foil pieces in a cup until you have enough to recycle. If your foil ball isn’t big enough, you can always add to it with kitchen aluminium foil over time. NOTE: Your bin collection days are not affected by the public holidays over the Easter long weekend. #Onkaparinga

13.01.2022 Our garden continues to grow! Our team and little learners are so proud of all their efforts in caring for our environment at Kerry Street. Gardening fosters key life skills such as responsibility while they learn about the world around them. Our team reflected together about how positive it has been to establish new plants and watch our seedlings grow together. We have set a goal to create an abundance of plants where ever we can within our environment. We will continue to learn together and experience various scents, herbs, fruits and vegetables while we create and support a more sustainable learning environment.

13.01.2022 Maintaining the health and safety of our educators, children, families and community is our priority. Please read our Declaration Station upon arrival.

12.01.2022 We're excited for tomorrow!

09.01.2022 Today, we honoured 50 years of work by Senior Kaurna Tribal Woman Georgina Williams on the Tjilbruke Track in dedication to her people, her culture and the broa...der Onkaparinga community. During a special ceremony attended by community elders and Erin Thompson - Mayor, City of Onkaparinga, a plaque was renewed at Port Noarlunga's Tuto Wirra Reserve to recognise the cultural importance of the Tjilbruke Dreaming Track on Adelaide’s coast. "Georgina's resolve has been second to none, she has maintained her path with unwavering strength and wisdom. She has always stayed true to her convictions with the future generations in mind. A life's work dedicated to your family, your people, your culture and to the reawakening of this sacred Dreaming story, so your people could come home to country," said Mayor Thompson. "We are listening in a deeper way, which has opened a new way of understanding this story for myself and my fellow councillors. I stand here today in truth and respect. I stand here today as Mayor of the City of Onkaparinga. I stand here today to admit that we haven't always gotten it right. It is a new beginning, and I acknowledge and commit to continue to respectfully walk together with you and your family and First Nations people in the City of Onkaparinga." www.onkaparingacity.com/Counc//tutu-wirra-reserve-ceremony #Onkaparinga

04.01.2022 Today Marlene prepared her Lamb Kofta with salad, potato and sweet potato wedges, natural yoghurt and flat bread! This is just one example of the delicious and nutritious meals our cook Marlene prepares for the children. Thanks Marlene, you always do an amazing job! ... * All children in childcare need regular healthy meals, snacks and fluids (drinks). Promoting children's health is an important aspect of good quality childcare. It's important that children in care are offered nutritious meals and enjoy positive mealtime experiences.*

03.01.2022 THE EMOTIONAL CUP We love the ‘Emotional Cup’ analogy as it helps us to explain that every child has a cup that needs to be filled. Children’s behaviours ...look different for a number of reasons; their cups might be more full, or they may have developed more ‘pro-social’ ways of getting a refill (having their needs met). When children’s cups near empty, we can often see some pretty challenging behaviours. We can interpret these behaviours as children’s attempts to communicate an unmet need, such as CONNECTION. If we view a behaviour as ‘attention seeking’ we are likely to either ignore it or meet the child with frustration. When we reframe these behaviours, we can start looking beyond the behaviours we see, and start thinking about ways we can support the child by meeting their needs. Something simple as changing our language from ‘attention seeking’ to ‘connection seeking’ can completely change the way we respond. If we see it as ‘connection seeking’ (or relationship/attachment seeking), we are far more likely to meet the need (and fill the child’s cup). We know that, once we meet the child’s need, those challenging behaviours are likely to dissipate. Thank you Upbility.net for this brilliant graphic!
