25.01.2022 Babies have been exploring sound and colour with our new perspex blocks. They enjoyed looking through them, building with them and listening to the sounds. To extend on their learning we used the light up box. Babies loved the experience, especially all the different colours they saw.

24.01.2022 Today the preschool children used lemon scented playdough with natural materials. The children joined in conversations about the colours, textures and aromas from the different plant materials and the playdough. The children described the playdough as smelling delicious, soft and squishy, and the flowers as soft and colourful. The children enjoyed hiding seeds in the dough, planting flowers in their playdough gardens and describing the attributes of the plants they used in their play. We cant wait to use some different scents in our playdough next time we make playdough.

23.01.2022 Today our younger Kindy children went on a walk in our local community. The children enjoyed the walk and showed an interest in what was happening around them. The children used the traffic crossing to cross the road and shared their knowledge on when it was safe to cross the road. On our walk we also saw lots of different transport including cars, buses, motorbikes and trucks. While we were at the Para Hills oval playground we watched a dump truck delivering sand. We are looking forward to learning more about traffic, transport and safety in our new traffic inquiry in the Kindy room in term 4.

22.01.2022 Today our Kindy children went on a walk to the local garden which ties into our gardening inquiry. Before we left, we talked about road safety and the importance of following instructions. When we got to the garden, we had a yummy picnic and had fun exploring the garden. We saw some beautiful flowers, a butterfly, some insects and even a scarecrow! #funinthesun #roadsafety #weweresogood

20.01.2022 This week we have continued to embed Aboriginal perspectives in our curriculum planning for NAIDOC week. Each morning the baby, toddler and kindy children sing Niina Marni Welcome and do an Acknowledgement of Country. The kindy children further explored their understanding of what does Acknowledgement of Country mean to them. The children also listened to dreamtime stories and engaged in sensory experiences related to the books, including sand art, sculpting animals from the stories they listened to, and using symbols in their play. We also enjoyed listening to Aboriginal music, and exploring the sounds made by Aboriginal musical instruments. One of our kindy children was excited to share his own Aboriginal artefacts from his home, which included a didgeridoo, boomerang, and a material artwork.

18.01.2022 The kindy children have been exploring nature, the childcare outdoor environment and children as gardeners. Today they explored different seeds and were excited to help plant seeds with the educators. The children shared their own knowledge about plants, seeds and gardens, and enjoyed learning about the seeds they were planting. We also have a wide range of nature and planting books in our library for the children to extend their learning as we engage in our nature and garden inquiry.

18.01.2022 Today the Toddler and Kindy children enjoyed bubbles and water play. The children are developing their fine motor skills and eye hand coordination when they engage in water play, using actions including pouring, squeezing, squirting and scrubbing. The preschool children are showing an interest in numbers and counting. Today we used bear counters, counting numbers up to 20. The preschoolers took turns counting bears to match their number cards. We found some of the high numbers a bit tricky, but we were able to work together to count up to 20. We are also learning to count backwards using the numbers from the clock. We recognised all the numbers on the as we counted down form the number 12 to number 1.

18.01.2022 Earlier today, the over 2's enjoyed some water play. They enjoyed pouring, measuring, painting with water and using the water wheels where they watched how the wheels spun around when the water went through them. As the weather is starting to get warmer, please remember to pack extra clothes for your child as they continue to play with water in the different experiences we set up for them #splishsplishsplash #sensoryplaywithwater

15.01.2022 The children have been enjoying playing outdoors with the warmer weather arriving. Our SunSmart Policy states that between the 1st August and 30th April, all educators and children must wear a legionnaires or broad brimmed hat whilst outdoors. 14.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.

12.01.2022 Staying Safe and Healthy in the Heat With the temperatures to soar into the 40’s across Adelaide today and Saturday, and UV levels extreme we are encouraging all our families to be vigilant and remain safe in the heat. 11.01.2022 On Monday our Preschool children visited the Para Hills Library. They were very excited to recommence our fortnightly excursions, and we cant wait to go again. After spending time exploring books and storytelling, we went for a walk through the library and discovered a mini art exhibition. The children have been really keen to visit the art museum as an extension of their learning on what is art, and who is an artist. As they explored the art works, they asked questions, listened to the blurbs about each art work, and once again asked when they could visit the real art museum. We look forward to more adventures and learning opportunities on our adventures out into our local community.

11.01.2022 Thank you to all our families for their support over the past couple of weeks regarding the Covid-19 changes to drop of and collection of children. Due to our numbers remaining high we will now be recommencing parents entering the rooms to collect children. We ask that parents be aware of social distancing when collecting children, sanitise hands on entry and exit of the building, and where possible to wear a face mask. If you wish to still do collection and drop off in the office area, please ring the door bell and one of our staff will be able to assist you. We thank you for your assistance in helping to keep our community safe.

10.01.2022 Treatment of headlice We have had several families notify the service that their children have recently had head lice. We ask that parents regularly do hair checks to ensure they keep on top of any head lice outbreaks. It is also important that you keep your child's hat in their bag and take them home so they can be regularly washed. Please see the link below for further information on exclusion times and how to treat head lice.... https://www.education.sa.gov.au//m/personal-care/head-lice

10.01.2022 Today Rachael and her daughter Kimberly brought their birds in for a visit with the children. Thank you Rachael and Kimberly #birdsofafeather #chirpsquawktwitter #beautifulbirds

09.01.2022 Today the Preschool and Kindy caught the bus to the Para Hills Library. For some of the children this was their first time going on an excursion using public transport. Going out into our community provides children with the opportunity to learn about safety, community awareness and interacting with the people who live and work in our local community. At the library we spent some time looking at books then enjoyed story time reading books chosen by the children. We cant wait to go again, so we can check out if the new playground behind the library is finished.

07.01.2022 Today the Kindy children joined in conversations about self regulation, and how we can use breathing exercises to help calm our bodies down. We then used bubble blowing through straws in cups of water to regulate our breathing. We first used little breaths to blow bubbles, then we used big breaths to blow big bubbles that made the water overflow from our cups. The children enjoyed bubble blowing and talked about how their bodies felt calm while blowing the bubbles.

06.01.2022 We recently had the decking removed from our outdoor environment. The children have enjoyed using the natural play space, and with the recent rains the ground has also been great for muddy play. The toddler and kindy children used their locomotive skills to help lift, roll and push nature/loose parts into the newly created environment. They enjoyed working collaboratively to resource their own learning - Educators observed children join in conversations, use their imagination...s, share ideas and work together using logs, crates, tyres and wood off cuts to create, build and design. We cant wait to see the children in this play space next week and build on their interests and ideas. We are encouraging families to be active in their childrens learning by adding to our loose part resources. If you have items at home that can be repurposed into loose parts for the children to use please speak to the staff. Some ideas include vacuum hoses, pots, crates, and logs. See more
