22.01.2022 Proverbs 10 for 10 September.

21.01.2022 Civil religion.

21.01.2022 Death is the baseline of life. If you do not understand death, you will never know life, nor can you handle life, because life and death are like inhalation and exhalation. They exist together, inseparably.

20.01.2022 Here is your mission should you accept it. Start conversations by asking people How are you? When meeting new people, tell them you are truly interested in hearing their story. Then listen. We have two ears and one mouth for a reason. Mission Purpose: I can think for myself. How about you?... I totally quit watching mainstream media in both of my countries. In Australia where I live, it is not as bad as America, my homeland. I only watch primary sources of information. Nothing secondary. No pundits. No opinion journalism. During the past week, I turned on Fox News and CNN to see what was going on in DC. I turned it off in 5 minutes. I know how desensitised Americans are to cable news. As one who kicked the habit, it is propaganda. Honestly, watch the Trump speech for yourself. What really happened? Trump’s style, lack of virtue, lack of leadership character, and rhetoric turned me off to the man long ago. So I weighed his policies and actions as the occupant of the office of President. I do the same now. The larger societal and cultural unrest with QAnon, cancel culture, Antifa, and so forth are indicators of deeper issues (I believe the roots are philosophical deconstruction, which the PC movement, at the root of much of this, was an early expression). It’s not just race. If you stop watching the cable news propagandists, and started having reasoned, civil discussions with the people in your world rather than act like the moron journalists on TV, AMERICA and the world will be better for it. As events unfolded on TV and the internet this week, Australians were watching. The Western would truly looks to America for leadership. There was shock and grief in the air here. When I hear the level of anger, frustration, and pain people are in over politics, I truly care about the person, not manipulative power politics. Will you work to bring peace and work to come into unity with others?

19.01.2022 Today, think back to the first time you learned something about God. Do you remember the awe, excitement, and being drawn to follow Jesus? We never have to lose that. Yet, God wants to form deep within us the character which prepares us to let go of this world as our life on earth reaches its summit. When, for just a moment in time, we have the peak experience. When we stand on the mountaintop and see our whole life story and say, It is well with my soul. I remember whe...Continue reading

17.01.2022 A CALL TO INTELLECTUALS AND PHILOSOPHERS: THE NEW RELIGION OF ANTI-RACISM I think this discussion between Sam Harris and John McWhorter serves as a position from which to have a healthy debate about racism in America. Please leave ad hominem, cancel culture, and emotional politics at the door. Philosophical presuppositions are not assumed. Participants should be prepared to defend your starting points. ... Do you agree or disagree with the foundational premise that anti-racism is the birth of a new cult or religion in America? https://podcasts.apple.com//making-sense-with/id733163012

15.01.2022 Frederick Buechner has long been a favourite author I love to read. Here is a piece I have always loved, from my favourite of his books. Questions ON HER DEATHBED, Gertrude Stein is said to have asked, "What is the answer?" Then, after a long silence, "What is the question?" Don't start looking in the Bible for the answers it gives. Start by listening for the questions it asks.... We are much involved, all of us, with questions about things that matter a good deal today but will be forgotten by this time tomorrowthe immediate wheres and whens and hows that face us daily at home and at workbut at the same time we tend to lose track of the questions about things that matter always, life-and-death questions about meaning, purpose, and value. To lose track of such deep questions as these is to risk losing track of who we really are in our own depths and where we are really going. There is perhaps no stronger reason for reading the Bible than that somewhere among all those India-paper pages there awaits each reader whoever he is the one question which, though for years he may have been pretending not to hear it, is the central question of his own life. Here are a few of them: What is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? (Matthew 16:26) Am I my brother's keeper? (Genesis 4:9) If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31) What is truth? (John 18:38) How can a man be born when he is old? (John 3:4) What does a man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun? (Ecclesiastes 1:3) Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? (Psalm 139:7) Who is my neighbor? (Luke 10:29) What shall I do to inherit eternal life? (Luke 10:25) When you hear the question that is your question, then you have already begun to hear much. Whether you can accept the Bible's answer or not, you have reached the point where at least you can begin to hear it too. -Originally published in Wishful Thinking

15.01.2022 Where God provides us as our shelter is always a reminder that He is our shelter. After a major life reinvention in 2015-16 and my relocation to Sydney, Australia from Oakfield, NY-USA outside of Buffalo, we have been navigating the transition for four years. Three years in, God blessed us with a house. It was billed as the worst house in the best zip code in Australia. We saw the potential; knew it would be a lot of hard work, but we’re convinced God gave us this house. W...e said thank you, and set our hands and finances to making beautiful what most saw as an ugly wreck. I am usually a prolific writer. I haven’t been blogging or posting much because we bought this house 11 months ago and have been renovating it ever since. It took vision. It was an uninhabitable party house for local kids where no one lived. It’s an old split level beach house on a hill on a peninsula in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Last weekend we moved in. It’s an exhausting process, and with toddlers, and Katie being 25 weeks pregnant, we are taking it slow, and the kids are adjusting. We are still living out of boxes. We are living in the lower level now, while the upper level continues its transformation. On the outside, we rebuilt the verandah, but the new cladding (siding) is still to come which will be the big transformation visibly. The learning for us, is, have eyes to see the blessing. Receive what God provides with thanks.

13.01.2022 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. Matthew 13:12 NIV https://www.bible.com/bible/111/mat.13.12.niv Multiplying the loaves and fishes to feed the 5000 was a miracle of abundance when it occurred. I do think abundance happens miraculously and through the creative minds of people who understand ABUNDANCE. ... Here is why I have a strong hope and vision for the future. It’s the abundant life. One day, I was thinking about economic history and the zero sum game theory. In a world of scarcity, there are only limited resources in a fierce world of competition. If I get a bigger slice, someone else gets less. Then I thought, is that really true? No. It isn’t. New ways of doing things thought of by people working together make more available to more for less cost. What used to be available only to the wealthiest for millions of dollars is now available for free globally on our smartphone. When I train my mind to think in terms of abundance and possibility, not scarcity, multiplying for everyone replaces dividing and inequality. I do this everyday as an executive in a well-known Sydney building supply business. I teach a select group of leaders worldwide how to realise their personal and professional potential, achieve a true life of meaning, operate in grit and flow, and execute wealth strategies according to your family goals. The foundation of the abundant life begins with inner spiritual formation. As the mind is renewed, we learn to live in the image of the Logos, who in the beginning created all things. Creativity is our very nature. Being creators in every area of life changes the world from scarcity to abundance. More to come.

12.01.2022 There is a reason why God gave me two sons and a daughter in the latter years of my life. Like Job, the latter part of my life is more blessed than the former part. Whether you believe and have a faith of some kind, or not, in the ancient wisdom literature of the holy writ, is the account of Job, the righteous, wise, sage. You can learn much by reading wisdom stories. Job, a good man, also suffered much. His children from his younger years died. He lost everything he had... worked for and built. Out of adversity and suffering, true character, resilience, wealth, and virtue shined forth from within the tired and tested man. The lessons are: we never know what we will face in life life is full of mysteries we will suffer losses of many kinds in this world out of death and loss comes new life there is so much about the world we do not know, but can learn when we are humbled We cannot understand why bad things happen and how it all works out justly, but it does if we lose much in the course of our troubles in life, we end up gaining more. After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the Lord had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring. The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. And he also had seven sons and three daughters. The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers. After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. And so Job died, an old man and full of years. Job 42:10-17 NIV

04.01.2022 It is Good Friday in Australia, a national holiday. Everything is closed. This land, spiritually, like most of The West, is in a new dark ages. It is now a very secular and humanist nation. As the Christian foundations of The West are not as prominent, government as the messianic state takes the place of the Church. This moral weakness makes the West vulnerable as it drifts from its moorings into the human selfishness and power religion of men enslaving other men that separ...ates and destroys community. Society after society in human history have died this death. This is much different than a society that loves it’s neighbour because it’s God demonstrates that love is the real power that the despots and totalitarian dictators of this world fear most. Yet, the deep imprint of Australia being a Commonwealth of England, and the influence of The Church of England remain. The remnant of God’s people are here shining as light in the dark times. Today, this Friday is good because true freedom and goodness flow from the day that divides AD and BC. Salvation came to the world when the good man, the new man, birthed a new world by demonstrating his love to those who through the ages reject the Creator of all good, life, and love. As the Anglican theologian NT Wright comments, here in a community called the people of God, we, like the earliest believers in Jesus, stand and wait at the foot of the cross to see what fresh word may come to us concerning the way forward, the way of becoming a community again . . . When God the Creator made his wonderful world, at the end of the sixth day he finished it. He completed his work. Now, on the Friday, the sixth day of the week, Jesus has completed the work of redeeming the world. With his shameful, chaotic, horrible death he has gone to the very bottom, to the darkest and deepest place of the ruin, and has planted there the sign that says Rescued. It is the sign of love, the love of the creator for his ruined creation, the love of the saviour for his ruined people. Yes, of course, it all has to be worked out. The victory has to be implemented. But it’s done; it’s completed; it’s finished . . . Good Friday is the point at which God comes into our chaos, to be there with us in the middle of it and to bring us his new creation. Let us pause and give thanks, and listen for his words of love and healing.
