25.01.2022 I have photographed plenty of these back in WA this is my first sight and photo here in NSW The night herons are medium-sized herons, 5865 cm, in the genera Nycticorax, Nyctanassa, and Gorsachius. The genus name Nycticorax derives from the Greek for night raven and refers to the largely nocturnal feeding habits of this group of birds, and the croaking crow-like call of the best known species, the black-crowned night heron.

20.01.2022 Photos taken today Edgeworth NSW Tawny Frogmouth The tawny frogmouth is a species of frogmouth native to the Australian mainland and Tasmania and found throughout. It is a big-headed, stocky bird, often mistaken for an owl, due to its nocturnal habits and similar coloring, and sometimes, at least archaically, referred to as mopoke or Mohawk, a name also used for the Australian boobook, the call of which is often confused with that of the tawny frogmouth. In the 2019 Australian Bird of the Year poll in The Guardian online, Australian readers voted it the second most popular bird.
