25.01.2022 What a wonderful morning we had with Kat and children! They arrived full of smiles, with a beautiful gift they made for us. We enjoyed outdoor play on this beautiful day. The children all got along so nicely - Alana and Emily worked amazingly well together to build a robot, and a computer. They each had so many ideas, which they shared to complete their project. Chayse worked at stacking boxes to make a rocket... he turned himself into a robot by putting a box on his head. ... Little Miss D loved the mud kitchen... she went on a tour of the garden to find fragrant leaves to add to her concoctions. Oliver and Lainey worked together in the sandpit, and enjoyed doing paintings. Everyone went for a ride in the space rocket, with Alana counting backwards for the blast off! We all enjoyed eating our lunch together... before we knew it, it was time for Kat to leave. We are grateful to be able to mix with our friends once again... See more

24.01.2022 Tash got lovely photos of Chaysey and Addy! Very affordable too!

23.01.2022 We began our morning with a quick group time, then headed outside to play, as everyone was highly strung with all of the windy weather! We practised our ball skills, catching, throwing and bouncing to each other. We then got creative with some star printing (for our Fathers Day activity) and clay sculpting. The clay is a great medium - we squeezed it and poked it, we pounded it, then added a like water to enjoy the smooth tactile experience. Everyone was much calmer and ...grounded after working with the clay. After morning tea, we headed back indoors at the childrens request, where we had lots of fun with dress ups and role play. Everyone had a baby, they all wanted help in changing babys nappy and changing their clothes. Dressing and undressing dolls, is great for building those fine motor skills, required for writing in the future See more

20.01.2022 What a lovely morning weve had. Before we set off to visit Oma and Opa, we sorted some more Lids for Kids. We counted, stacked and named colours, as well as working well in a group. We googled what they do with the lids, and saw the cool prosthetics they make for kids. We talked about how much better that is, than throwing them away. This way, we are helping people, as well as helping the environment. Oma and Opa were pleased to see us! Opa gave everyone a turn of his headp...hones... not sure that the kids were a fan of his music though! Tiberius presented Oma with a mint plant we grew for her... it smelled so nice! After morning tea, we had a lovely walk in Omas garden. We saw beautiful butterflies and huge trees - we all collected little treasures of sticks, stones and leaves to bring home. Next we visited the library - we all got to choose some books, and it was so lovely when Chayse found a book and said Lets get this one! Ty loves dinosaurs! Indi chose some ballerina stories, Tiberius found one about monster trucks and Alana found some aboriginal stories - (as she put it, Yirrganydji stories) They have organised the junior fiction alphabetically now - the kids were able to put books back where they belonged by matching the letters! 20.01.2022 Today is Kewarra Kids 2nd Anniversary! Here we are, two years on, enjoying each and every day together! Today, we had a lovely morning with our Out n About buddies... Louise, Kat and Sharelle (we missed Gwen!) We met at Lake Placid, where the children enjoyed balancing along the retaining walls, playing chasing games and observing all things in nature. We made friends with a little boy named Lenny. Tiberius noticed a family of ducks out for a swim, we saw a pretty blue butt...erfly and had an encounter with a bush turkey along the way. The rainforest walk was lots of fun - we have all gained so much confidence in climbing along fallen trees and navigating the steep parts. EVERYONE had great listening ears... keeping to the track, not going too far ahead, and looking out for their friends. When we returned from our rainforest walk, we enjoyed a big picnic lunch with our friends. See more

19.01.2022 Thanks Louise Reid for capturing our emergent reader, Alana.

18.01.2022 We had an all girls day today. Chayse is off celebrating his Daddys birthday, and Tiberius is having a day with his family. Kenny was keen to make a dream catcher - she chose pink, cos thats her favourite. She was so patient and persistent as she strung the web in the middle, then threaded the beads at the bottom. She only has a bit more threading to do after rest time. Alana had a great time building a farm, then Kenny joined in and made tall towers with the small bloc...ks. We made some chocolate chip cookies for Oma and Opa, (and some to take home) Alana asked to keep one for Chaysey, Ty and Indi, so they dont miss out. (Such a kind and thoughtful friend ) We then played out in the sandpit and mud kitchen, before coming inside, where we started putting away the vet props. (But not Lily dog... Alana says lets leave her on the shelf where we can see her and play with her We read lots of stories - Kennys favourite at the moment is 3 Little Pigs.... she likes to copy Alana, and repeat some of the words after me. Giving children a love of books and a passion for reading, is setting them up for future reading success. CHILDREN ARE ACTIVE AND INVOLVED LEARNERS See more

17.01.2022 We all enjoyed an afternoon visit at Oma and Opas. We had afternoon tea, read stories, did puzzles, and checked out Freddo the crayfish. We all came home with a chocolate treat from Oma

17.01.2022 We started our morning with lots of laughs as we did a domino tumble. Last week Chayse was using the space figurines to line up and knock down, so I thought this would be a great extension. We followed the lines, being careful not to knock them over, then laughing with excitement when they all came tumbling down! We discussed colours and counted as we went. We started a new routine at morning tea, using our new personalised placemats from Donna. Everyone was able to identify their own names, then enjoyed choosing food from their lunch boxes to place on their little serving plates. Such independent and capable little people! Outdoors we got busy on our Fathers Day project, we blew bubbles, chased butterflies and created a robot and a rocket! CHILDREN ARE CONFIDENT AND INVOLVED LEARNERS

17.01.2022 I actually caught them on video, usually they catch me filming and stop whatever they’re doing! They are loving their new flags from Donna

16.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the Daddies and Poppies. I hope youre all having a wonderful Fathers Day, and that you liked your handmade gifts, made with love by your precious children and grandchildren.

15.01.2022 If you have any unused girls clothing, drop off to me, and Ill get it to Ruths Womens Shelter.

14.01.2022 Practising gratitude & kindness This morning we got busy finishing off a Thankyou letter for our friends at Hartleys Crocodile Adventures. They are always so welcoming, kind and helpful when we go to visit, we decided it would be nice to let them know how much we appreciate them! We then set off in search of some new books at the op shop- we found one about the weather for our friend Louise Reid, and a few to add to our ...collection too. Next stop was the pet shop to buy a fish for our tank which was generously donated by Chayse and his family Natasha Geoghegan. The children chose a large gold fish with a pretty tail. On the way home, they decided its name will be Sophie. Who am I to argue?? See more

13.01.2022 Please feel free to share...

12.01.2022 A lovely day at home, with a visit from Jayde She took Lily to the vet for a checkup... the children were all concerned for Lily, and were SO excited when they came back! (Lil needs some teeth out) While theywere gone, we transformed the big box from Chayse into a farm yard! We forgot to take photos of before, during, and after... we were having too much fun! I definitely hadnt programmed to make a farm today... the childrens ideas are always much better than mine! LEAR...NING OUTCOME 5 Children are Effective Communicators See more

11.01.2022 The thing I love about FDC is that the relationships we form are lifelong. Even though Samson has moved away, he keeps in constant touch via phone and mail. He is up for a quick visit to Cairns and his Mummy made time to come and spend the morning with us! We all just picked up where we left off! Samson joined us for storytime and group time - we read a story about My Dad and discussed all the fun things we like to do with our Dads. After morning tea, we headed outside to play. We collected leaves, flowers and herbs to use in the mud kitchen. In the sandpit we all worked together to make a river system. Even baby Silas got in on the fun! We all ended up covered in wet muddy sand Before we knew it, it was time to say See you next time to Samson.

11.01.2022 The children showed an interest in space play today.... indoors they investigated the space small world set up, flying their rockets through the air. An impromptu puppet show was put on for Chayseys baby sister Addy. They sang Twinkle Twinkle, Hello Everybody, and our little Dutch song, Clappes mit je handjes. Addy thoroughly enjoyed it, as youll see in the photos. Some amazing construction took place with the magnetic shapes... lots of serious thinking, problem solving, discussions about shapes, colours, big and small, and of course negotiating to get the shapes needed for your construction piece. Outdoors we all worked together to make a little robot, using recycled boxes, cylinders etc. We then drew a big rocket in chalk to blast off to the moon! We took turns in counting backwards to BLAST OFF!

10.01.2022 Learning Outcome 5 CHIKDREN ARE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS This morning began with more domino stacking... a real test of patience and persistence! Alana, Chayse and Tiberius all worked so well together, and were kind to each other even when one would accidentally bump their row of dominoes and send them all tumbling. They came up with a strategic plan, and finally managed to get every domino standing! It was so much fun to send them all tumbling down! At group time, we all ha...d a turn of show n tell. Everyone is gaining so much confidence, speaking in front of their peers. Indigo had her turn last.. I asked her What would you like to tell us about? School she replied. We talked about her friends at school, and what she likes to do at school. Outdoors Alana asked for some mats so she could practise her somersaults... everyone had lots of fun, tumbling, crawling and jumping! Tiberius paid special attention to our flowers, giving them water via a dropper. We all helped to wash and sort milk bottle lids for Lids for Kids (thanks Natasha Geoghegan) Everyone had a job to do... sorting into size and colour categories and removing the foam inserts. We will have to finish the job off tomorrow. Now we are having a rest, before we head off to visit Oma and Opa See more

09.01.2022 This mornings play invitations were to encourage language and an interest in colours,as well as to develop and strengthen that pincer grip needed for handwriting in the future. The interactive piggy bank is always lots of fun, as he counts out loud as we feed him the coloured coins. Indigo especially enjoyed this play, and did a great job of matching her colours. The 3 little pigs small world was popular, as its been one of our favourite stories recently... as I observe th...e children playing, I see how much of the story they understand, as they are able to role play the events in sequence... running the little pigs from house to house, mimicking the wolfs voice as the pigs run weee weee weee away from him! At group time we came up with a feeding roster for our new pet goldfish, then the children drew pictures to hang beside her tank. We headed out to dig for worms, which also led to raking up all the leaves. We had a surprise visit from Jayde... we all had lots of fun playing hide n seek. Alana is practising counting from 10-20... this game provides a fun way to do that! There were squeals of delight all round when those hiding spots were revealed! CHIKDREN ARE CONFIDENT AND INVOLVED LEARNERS... learning through meaningful play, in a fun, relaxed, non competitive way! See more

09.01.2022 Today we had a wonderful day at Hartleys Crocodile Adventures with Jayde. We were made to feel SO welcome by Angela and Tina Tina gave us a guided tour of the new playground and giant prehistoric wombat statue, and told us all about the animals we saw along the way. The new playground is beautiful!! Theres even a giant snake to balance and climb on. We are definitely going to be going more often ... its quicker for us to drive 20mins there, than to drive into town! Eve...ryone had their favourite part of the day... Tiberius liked the wallabies, Chayses favourite was the crocodiles/boat ride, Indi too said the boat was her favourite, and Alanas favourite was feeding and patting the kangaroos. Days out like this are so good to promote speech and language, social skills and confidence.... there were so many new and exciting things to see, and talk about, and of course lots of questions to be asked. We bought a book on the way out called Cranky Crocodile. Next week we will definitely do some more learning about the amazing animals we saw today. A big THANKYOU to Jayde for joining us, and to all of the staff for an awesome day out! We cant wait to do it again SOON! See more

09.01.2022 And.... the cuteness continues! Addy Angel!

09.01.2022 Last week we had planned to talk about stars and space.... I set up activities to spark this interest. Yet the children had other ideas... Alana brought in a new vet set, therefore the play still revolves around pets and the vet. We worked together to make a dog kennel, sharing our ideas on what we would need , how to design it etc. We had a very welcome visit from Jayde, who helped to design some feeding bowls for Max the dog. Alana painted blue for water, and yellow for do...g biscuits. We all helped to clean out the fish tank donated by Chayses family. We are planning a trip to the pet store later in the week, to choose our new pet fish. Watch this space..... The children put on a puppet show, starring Slinky Malinky and Scarface Claw... they took turns in being the audience and performers. Their confidence continues to grow! 09.01.2022 Just had to share some more photos of our great day out, taken by Tina and Jayde!

09.01.2022 Part of this mornings performance

08.01.2022 This week is National Child Protection Week. We just watched an animated YouTube video Teeny Timy Steevies (thanks Donna) about being the Boss of our Body. We then had a discussion about who can we talk to if something is troubling us. We drew our hands and thought of five adults we can trust. Im happy to say, that without any prompting, I made the list!

07.01.2022 Addy posed for her angel photo this morning then big brother Chaysey and I got to work finishing off her Christmas character. We just have Indigo and Malakai to go, we we have ALL of Kewarra Kids and their siblings in our Xmas display! At group time we had a big discussion about feelings, what makes us grumpy and angry, and HOW we can deal with those feelings. We read a lovely story called The Magical Christmas- the children really enjoy longer stories these days, their atte...ntion span is amazing! After morning tea, Tiberius got to work on his reindeer mask, whilst Chaysey and Alana tackled the tricky ocean puzzle! Next up we got out the Xmas stamps, then we all helped to grate the beeswax to make some environmentally friendly Xmas gifts. Speaking of which, I have wax melting in the oven! Here’s hoping they turn out... we’ve never made them before! See more

07.01.2022 This morning we got a very nice surprise! A parcel delivered to Kewarra Kids all the way from my cousin Yvonne Vos at Little Twigs FDC in Tassie! What a thoughtful and beautiful gift! We love it! THANKYOU!! We had lots of fun making funny faces with you on our video call too!

05.01.2022 SPREADING KINDNESS.... Woohoo! Off we go to Oma and Opas! The children talk about them everyday, and we have missed seeing them, as it has been SO long between visits! We were made to feel very welcome, cuddles all round. Alana noticed her butterfly art on display, then Oma got out a big roll of paintings and drawings we had given her in the past. On her fridge there is a photo of all 5 Kewarra Kids, as well as a recent painting which Samson gave her. Chayse gave Oma a p...ack of choc chip cookies we made yesterday afternoon. We enjoyed morning tea out the back, then we played the colour and shape board game with Oma. We then explored the garden - we had a game of hide n seek, then Oma brought out the bubbles! Then we got our traditional treats... smarties, a kinder chocolate and a balloon. Before we left, we did our acknowledgment to country - we talked about the Yirrganydji people, how they lived in a Gunya and hunted for food. Opa said they caught barramundi for dinner! We then sang our sing about barramundi, cockatoo. We ended the morning singing Dutch songs, and promising to visit again soon, with Indigo and Tiberius CHILDREN HAVE A STRONG SENSE OF BELONGING.... They look forward to visiting Oma and Opa, and enjoying the little traditions they have made together. Theres ALWAYS, a sweet treat, a balloon and Omas special song, and Opas special song. See more

05.01.2022 A change to the layout of our room was well received this morning - On Thursday arvo, Alana, Kenny and Tiberius helped to rearrange the furniture to give us more space in home corner, as caring for babies, cooking and picnics was high on everyones agenda last week. We set up some ocean animals, at Alana and Chayses request, and Tiberius requested dinosaurs. This morning Indigo helped to created a dinosaur world. We collected leaves, sticks and rocks from the garden. Involving the children in the set up of activities gives them the chance to share their ideas, which makes for much more involved play and learning.

04.01.2022 What a lovely morning we had with our friends Gwen, Ebony, Freya and Maya. We made the most of the sunshine, and spent the morning outdoors. Gwen and the children arrived with some beautiful flowering plants for us... so kind and thoughtful. We had a tour of our garden, picking some herbs and flowers for play in the mud kitchen, as well as giving Gwen some herbs to take home. We continued on with our dinosaur play, adding a volcano into the play! What fun we had experimenting with the carb soda and vinegar. Each child had a turn, and got to count out 4,5 or 6 scoops of carb soda in, before adding the coloured vinegar. A great way to add numeracy into our play, practising our counting whilst having fun! The squeals of delight EVERY time the reaction occurred were priceless!

04.01.2022 Two years ago, on 27th August Kewarra Kids opened its doors for the very first time! I want to thank all of my parents for their constant support, and for giving me the opportunity to do the job I LOVE... working with your amazing children. Watching them grow and learn brings so much joy to my heart. Yesterday we celebrated our 2nd Birthday with a lovely family BBQ at the beach. A big THANKYOU to Tiberius and Indis Daddy Kris for cooking for us! Chayses Grandma joined us too, and made a yummy salad from her veggie garden. She has invited us to go to her home soon to check out her beautiful garden. Oma couldnt join us this time, but there was lots of excitement when Jayde arrived. I just love how the children gifted her leaves on her arrival We must get together more often.... its always a great afternoon!

04.01.2022 A picture tells a thousand words! As you can see... the kids had a great day... getting down and dirty, exploring nature and playing with friends. It was too wet for the park, but Kat welcomed us to her home, which has a beautiful big backyard! Louise and her crew met us there mid morning too. The children loved the freedom of being able to explore the garden, shelter from the rain in the cubby, and play with a larger group of friends. It is lovely to see these friendships... strengthening, despite the setbacks we have had to face due to Covid. Getting together in larger groups is beneficial for the childrens social and emotional skills.... the most important skill for school readiness! Hopefully next week, the sun will shine, so we can get to explore that new park! CONNECTION WITH COMMUNITY See more

04.01.2022 This morning I whipped up some playdough in earthy colours to accompany our dinosaur cutters. I also added some indigenous artwork depicting dinosaurs... added 4 kids, and the conversations, inquiry and creativity just flowed on from there. The children talked about the aboriginal artwork (they call it Yirrganydji artwork, as we acknowledge the Yirrganydji people each morning) They then took great care in decorating their dinosaurs, rolling tiny pieces to represent dots and... swirls as they had noticed on the aboriginal artwork. Its amazing how just changing the colours of the playdough, and adding some visual prompts, can ignite their minds and creativity. At group time, we did our daily weather, then we took a closer look at the indigenous weather chart, given to us by Donna. It shows that July, August and into September is windy time! That is certainly correct, as we have had LOTS of windy days lately! The dress ups were popular once again (thanks Natasha Geoghegan) We are practising how to get them on and off by ourselves, it can be very tricky getting things from inside out! We are also getting really good and hanging them back up, as we swap from Spider-Man to Snow White to Cinderella all in a space of 15minutes! We also learned a new song... which my friend Katrin Schwarz so kindly shared with us at a Zoom meeting last night. Kewarra Kids also featured in that zoom meeting, where we were officially welcomed into the Enhance family. (Thanks Donna) I am so fortunate to be a part of an awesome scheme, with educators/friends who inspire and support me. A SENSE OF BELONGING IS IMPORTANT FOR US ALL, NOT JUST CHILDREN

02.01.2022 Each and every one of my Kewarra Kids has a kind and beautiful heart. They definitely make this world a better place

02.01.2022 This morning we set off to our local park, with Lily in tow, at the childrens request! The children are so used to our outing rules and boundaries- they hold hands, look after their buddies, stop at the kerb, and watch at driveways. They have come such a long way - they make me proud. They chose to eat at the picnic table for morning tea, then we set of to enjoy our morning in the park. Tiberius got to work building a zoo for all of the animals... he said Girraffes eat... trees together we made a tree for the giraffes to feast on. Meanwhile, Chaysey worked hard to master the crane. Alana and Kenny had fun on the swings, then got busy building sandcastles. Alana went on a nature walk to find decorations for her castle. There were giggles all round as we had running races, then we played ball games - kicking and catching to each other. Now we are all down for a little rest before our family beach bbq this arvo! See more

01.01.2022 Santa’s little helpers have been busy working on gifts today...(no photos, that would be peeking!) We also began work on Malakai and Indigo’s Christmas characters.... lots of fine motor skills, tearing up all the paper! Watch this space for photos of the finished products Outdoors saw us creating some pretty homemade Xmas gift wrap, stamping star cutouts into red, green and metallic paints. This afternoon we will begin wrapping our homemade gifts. I can’t believe I only have 12 more days with these precious little people
