21.01.2022 What do you get if you combine a worm farm display, a battery recycling bin and a community garden? You have the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability, and this was our location for a discussion lead by Maria Vaskova (Masha) followed by a communal trade of clothes and cosmetics. Sitting outside, we enjoyed the stunning backdrop while Masha showed us the re-usable items she always carries in her material backpack. What are these items, and what else did we learn about sustainability? Follow the link to discover https://keyintoaustralia.com.au/sustainability-cafe-clothe/

19.01.2022 SUSTAINABILITY CAFÉ CLOTHES AND COSMETICS SWAP Hi everyone! My name is Masha and I am very passionate about environmental-friendly living. After moving to Sydney in January 2020, it took me a while to discover eco-communities and understand local systems for sustainable living. I would be happy to share my eco-habits in my everyday life. I also would like to invite you to bring your pre-loved clothes and cosmetics you do not use anymore for a swap. It is simple a...nd fun! See you next Monday! https://events.humanitix.com/simple-everyday-eco-habits-clo #KeyIntoAustralia #SustainableLiving #ClothesSwap #CosmeticsSwap #SustainabilityCafe #ClothesSwapSydney

A special thanks to co-organisers of this expo for making this event possible: TAFE NSW Randwick, Sydney City College of Management, Randwick City Council, The JNC, Recovery & Wellbeing College and Dept of Communities and Justice NSW - stronger together.
16.01.2022 Sharing these amazing pictures from our Mindful drawing workshop yesterday. A big thank you to Sarah Halawani for sharing her beautiful practice of mindfulness and creativity with us. Thank you to all those who joined us yesterday and all those who helped make the session possible. I am so glad we were all able to be part of this amazing session despite the heavy rain and the last minute changes.

13.01.2022 Welcome to the second instalment of our 'Connecting With' series where we get to know a little more about our Key Into Australia volunteers. CONNECTING WITH... DORIANNE FORMOSA Dorianne is originally from Malta and volunteers with KIA as an Events Coordinator. One of the regular activities Dorianne organises is a scenic walk from Maroubra to Coogee. Take a virtual walk with her now to find out a little more... Tell us about a favourite food from your culture? My favourite food from Malta is definitely my Mum’s ravioli which I really miss. Pastizzi are also my favourite, it’s pastry filled with ricotta or peas. Although the pastry has a lot of fat and oil this savoury food item is great when it’s hot just out of the oven. Is there something about Australian culture or the people that you find funny or unusual? I had to get used to say hello to everyone you see on the street, say hello and thank the bus driver. This is positive but I had to adapt as it’s not the same back home. Walking bare foot in a shop which is not a beachside area is a bit strange. I'm still getting used to brekkie, smoko, arvo, chuck a Uie, hey love, mate, no dramas, and the list continues. No worries is actually in my vocabulary now. Describe your ideal holiday. My ideal holiday is exploring new cultures and food. If you had a couple of minutes to teach someone something new, what would you teach? I love snorkelling so I would teach someone how to snorkel and admire nature under water. The photo below was taken at the Great Barrier Reef which I visited last year, and had the opportunity to snorkel.
08.01.2022 Welcome to CONNECTING WITH... Our volunteers play an important part in the Key Into Australia community. In the coming weeks we will be featuring some of KIA's volunteers so you can get to know them a little more. Today, it's a pleasure to introduce MRS TANUSHREE PANDIT. Tanu is originally from India, and volunteers as a Welcome Buddy and Event Organiser for KIA. She has the honour of being our first volunteer profiled! Thank you, Tanu ... Tell us about a favourite food from your culture? It’s Chhole Bhature. Well, it’s a vegetarian dish which we can have at any time of the day. It’s made with lots of spices from India and the traditional flour roti which is the specialty of India. In short, it’s roti with curry made with chickpeas. I love it at any time. Paani Puri vegetarian, potato and chickpea masala added with tiny flour roti and the chatpata paani puri mix. Ammm Yummy. Why did you choose Australia for your home? It’s my husband’s dream place, hahaha. Basically, because it’s a very developed country which will also benefit my child with the education system here in Australia. Also, the people of a developed country will surely make us all grow and develop very well presently as well as in the future. Is there something about Australian culture or the people that you find funny or unusual? Aha! That’s a very interesting question. Well, I would not say funny but little unusual things: 1. Smoking in front of the kids. This is a little weird for me when I see that a mother/father of four young and little children are smoking in front of them in public/home. Whereas in the developed country, they take so much care for the children’s health and rights. I would not say it does not happen in my country, but my morals do not give me permission to like it. Please don’t misunderstand me. 2. Having a pet like snakes/lizards/pythons. Again, the reason is the same. And I haven’t seen this in my country in years.
