22.01.2022 Matt has been found

21.01.2022 Sunday 18-10-2020 "Trust that the worst is now behind you, stormy times are fading and your rainbow is on its way." Unknown Victorian’s have forgone many pers...onal liberties, with a united determination to limit the spread of covid-19 through our State. It has been incredibly difficult for many and there are casualties yet to be fully realised. The sacrifice and determination has bought us to where we are today, relatively low active case numbers, vulnerable sectors stabilised and our State well placed to make the next big steps to a new normal. Today, was the 5th day in a row where we had single digit new cases. Yesterday was sensational with no new cases, despite 18,934 test results processed. Today a further 18,546 test results were reported with 2 new cases reported. This is encouraging news, given such strong testing. We also have had no deaths for four days in a row, and low numbers in hospital. It therefore came as no surprise, especially considering the hints dropped all week by the Premier, that an announcement was made this morning re the easing of restrictions, many from tomorrow, most from the 1st November (possibly sooner if the numbers continue to track as they have been). One of the key announcements was extending the radius in which you can obtain goods and services was from 5km to 25kms. There is also now no limit on how many people from one household go shopping together or how many times a day. Whilst these freedoms are welcome, I do encourage people to be very self-aware and take responsibility for limiting one’s own risks. For example, there is no way you will see me traipsing around a major shopping centre with my hubby and kids. For me it will be in and out, as quick and limited as I can make it. Like many others, my kids have grown and need new shoes and clothes I’ll probably try and pick a time when I think the shops are least busy. I’ll be masked up, for as long as needed and will have hand sanitiser in my bag. I’m not going to run through each of the restriction changes here there have been plenty of posts on facebook providing this detail. Here’s a link to the official Government summary of what is proposed to change from 11:59pm tonight and then the next easing in two weeks time (or earlier, all going well). https://covidlive.com.au/docs/second-step-metro-18-oct.pdf Rather than dwelling on what you still can’t do, try and find your own rainbow from today’s announcement, at least one positive that gives you confidence we are through the worst and well on the way to better days. The other thing I was thinking is that those businesses that need to wait a couple of weeks would probably appreciate being able to gauge what to expect when they open will they still have customers, how busy will they be. If you know you need goods or services, eg: waxing / nails why not call your beautician and make a booking for after the 1st November. Fill their bookings so they have hope that things will be okay when they do re-open. Would you consider buying a gift voucher now, to give them some cash flow to buy products before they re-open? How else can we help our small businesses to come back strong? With Christmas approaching, perhaps start thinking about how you can help local businesses by spending with them. This is what we now need to put our minds to, our economic recovery. Today’s numbers are again pleasing, with lots to be optimistic about. It is particularly great to see Yarra Ranges is finally back to zero active cases fantastic! There has been no joy in what we have had to endure, however it is clearly working and for that I am thankful to all who have stayed on course and not given up. **************** UPDATE RE TODAY’S NUMBERS: 2 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday. One linked to a known case, one with provisional links. Both are in the Hume LGA. 137 - total number of active cases (down 11). Rolling 14-day new case average (metro) 7.5 (improving) [Note: Regional 0.5] 20,315 cases of coronavirus in Victoria since the start of the pandemic. (down 2 after 4 reclassified) 30 active cases across Knox and the surrounding eight municipalities, four less than yesterday. The region accounts for 21.9% of Victoria’s active cases. The total number of cases across the outer East region I report on decreased by 2 from yesterday. The total cases by LGA are Knox (nc / ttl 166), Cardinia (nc / ttl 204), Casey (-1 / ttl 1059), Greater Dandenong (nc/ ttl 542), Manningham (nc / ttl 165), Maroondah (nc / ttl 104), Monash (nc / ttl 339), Whitehorse (nc / ttl 217), Yarra Ranges (-1/ ttl 251). 4280 Mystery cases since the start of the pandemic, two more than yesterday. 18,546 tests were processed over the past 24 hours taking the total number of tests processed to 2,944,356. Today’s daily positive test rate for Victoria is -.01%. The weekly average positive test result is 0.03%. Testing numbers have been strong across all of the LGA’s in our region. ******************** THE GOOD NEWS: There were no deaths reported today. Hospital numbers continue to fall. There are 12 people in hospital. 19,295 of people who have had coronavirus have recovered from the infection. (95% / +8 from yesterday). There are 11 Healthcare workers currently infected, no change from yesterday. There was one new healthcare worker infection reported, taking the total health care workers infected since the start of the pandemic to 3599. Healthcare related infections represent 8% of all active cases. Aged Care related infections continue to reduce, now sitting at 10 cases which is incredible considering in mid August this was 2075. It is a relief to see that this vulnerable sector is well and truly under control. The 7.3% of all Victorian active cases are linked to an aged care outbreak, predominantly staff related. 69.3% (95) of the current active cases are attributed to transmission from contact with a confirmed source and therefore able to be better managed by the DHHS rapid response teams. 28.5% (39) active cases are currently unknown / mystery cases. There are also 3 active cases under investigation. ************************ THE NOT GOOD NEWS: Total number of cases from an unknown source in the last 14 days is sitting at 15 (all metro) an improvement by 2 since yesterday. In our region the location of these mystery cases is postcode 3175 x 1, 3173 x 1, 3147 x 1, 3130 x 1 and 3128 x 1. ***************** WHAT’S HAPPENING LOCALLY? As mentioned above, the number of active cases in the outer east, reduced by 4 to 30. Casey reduced by 2, Whitehorse x 1 and Yarra Ranges x 1. Great to see Yarra Ranges down to zero cases. I attached a link above to the full summary. Some of the general commentary or answers to journalist questions that may be of interest include Grand Final Day Even though it is a Victorian tradition to have a grand final BBQ with mates coming over, this year it is not possible to do this as the restrictions still limit having people over to your house socially, even if it is in the backyard and not inside. The Premier was very clear on this saying No friends over, not worth the risk. It would be a very expensive BBQ, if this restriction was ignore and people were caught flouting the rules. The 25km radius will be in place until at least 1st November, perhaps a little longer than this. The setting of the distance radius is part of the suite of measures to prevent community transmission of the virus, by keeping people within tight geographies with less potential for the virus to hitch a ride and spread more broadly. Modelling scenarios becomes increasingly difficult as numbers reduce. Therefore the public health team are going to place greater emphasis on qualitative analysis of the data, looking at things like how many people have been tested, how quickly were active cases tested from when symptoms were first identified, what is known about the source of the infection / are they are mystery case etc.. Testing will remain a critical component of ensuring we stay on top of the virus. There is confidence in the contact tracing systems / processes and Shepparton was used as an illustration of a model response to a new outbreak. The Premier advised he and the Public Health team will review case data each and every day this week and when we get to next weekend, if we can move any earlier and do it safely, we will. For Melburnians with a property in regional Victoria, the Premier advised that those where properties need to be made fire or flood ready will be able to do so soon but only if they have appropriate documentation from the local Council. Property owners will need to apply to the regional Council for a Fire Prevention Notice to be issued. This is to prevent people flouting the system saying they are going to their properties to get fire / flood ready, but using it as an opportunity to have a break or to relocate from metro Melbourne to avoid the metro restrictions. If all of that was not enough to put a little spring in your step then look to the success of our sporting teams over the weekend we now have an all Victorian team AFL grand final with Richmond vs Geelong, Melbourne Storm are also off to the NRL Grand Final and this afternoon the Melbourne Vixens won the Suncorp Super 2020 Grand Final. Victorian’s are fierce, determined and resilient we will overcome challenges, whatever they may be. That’s all for tonight, Remember not to let your guard down this week, there’s more freedoms but also more personal accountability that comes with it. We want these numbers to stay tracking low, and it is up to us to achieve that. Happy Sunday, Nicole. ************************************************************* Testing is a critical help to driving numbers down so it’s extremely important that if people have symptoms, however mild, they get tested. Go home straight after your test and isolate while you wait for the results. Six COVIDSafe principles apply across Victoria. o Wear a face mask or covering when you leave home. o Don't go to work if you feel unwell. o Maintain physical distancing of 1.5 metres. o Cough and sneeze into tissue or your elbow. o Perform good hand hygiene. o Outdoor activities carry less risk than indoor activities.
