25.01.2022 So lovely to return to one of my favourite kindies this year. Thanks to Covid this is only my third talk for the year... it was so lovely to see so many enthusiastic parents, looking for ways to transition their little ones into school.

24.01.2022 I am the annoying mother who makes my kids say thank you. Aunt Dell is my Great Aunty, who is well into her 80s and hasn’t seen my kids since they were babies. Her kindness has continued for my whole lifetime.. since I was a little girl I’d receive $5 in a card for my birthday. She still does this for my kids I hated having to do this as a kid, and my kids probably do too, but I want them to acknowledge the kindness of someone who they don’t even know, who remembers them ...on their birthday. Good manners never go out of fashion.

21.01.2022 This is everything ‘How to talk so kids listen’ (and KEY TO KIDS!) believes in! Punishing just doesn’t work. Making children face the real consequences of their actions and asking ‘how are you going to make this better?’ is so much more powerful. Children are learning... let’s turn their mistakes into opportunities to teach.

18.01.2022 {SMILE} You are enough.

16.01.2022 Think first These are three questions we teach kids as educators to reflect upon before singling out another child. However. I've come to think more about these questions and would definitely agree that these are questions for us all.... Bullying happens just as easily as adults, in more passive ways. We all know how it feels to be at the end of somebody else's joke or to discover you've been the topic of someone else's conversations. Remember, little ears are always listening and eyes always watching. The way we relate to others teaches our kids what kind of adult they will grow to become. . . . #yourhouseyourrules#consciousparenting#intuitiveparenting#gentleparenting#bekindtoyourself#positiveparenting#magicalchildhood#wildandfreekids#naturalparenting#parenting#mumlife#motherhood#parentlife#motherhood#dailyparenting#unitedinmotherhood#mumsofinstagram#motherhoodrising#letthembelittle#simplychildren#worldoflittles#dailyparenting#australianmum#parentcoach#thevillage#empathy#selfcare#selflove See more

09.01.2022 This week we celebrate World Teachers Day. In 2002, I started my first ever job as a teacher. I was bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to take on the world. I was so excited to be given my very own class of Year 1 students, who I was sure would be eager and ready to learn.... well most of them anyway! At the beginning of my career I needed to follow the curriculum, but if my kids had particular interests - I followed them. I did weekly cooking lessons because it was fun.... If the kids didn't get a concept I would teach it again and again. I used big books and had a dress up corner and invited parent helpers in to see their kids who were not only learning, but loved doing it. Years went by, and like many other female teachers I got married, had some babies and went back part time. Things had changed. In my own life (obviously!) and in the classroom. Suddenly, weekly art was not on the agenda... the 'Arts' meant only one term of the year we could paint, draw and create - the rest of the year shared with media, drama and music. Prep became the new Year One and the curriculum was pushed down... in a hurry. What happened to play? I started to become stressed... Pre testing - 5 week cycles - differentiation - personal goals - data... data... data... data.... What happened to my job? It became so hard!! I started Key to Kids because I thought that my teaching career was not sustainable - How could I do the best possible job for my students and be a mum and wife AND keep my own life? This year I found my love of teaching again. I have been a support teacher for children with special needs. It has taken me back to those early days of teaching Year One. But I see classroom teachers all around me working so hard and trying to keep their head above the water. IT'S HARD. When teachers walk into the classroom to teach, that's only a fraction of the job that they need to do every day. Our teachers are dedicated to their job - it's a life commitment. So please... be kind to your kid's teacher. Be thankful for all that they do - because there is so much you don't see. And they are doing it for your children... simply because they love their job and care for your kids so much.

08.01.2022 Children feel loved and secure in warm, caring relationships. There’s always time for a hug. Holding and cuddling your child releases good hormones that support their growth.

07.01.2022 "Hurry up! Put your shoes on! Stop playing with the dog! Get dressed!" These are words we recognized ourselves saying on a regular basis. As Mums of young children, we were forever working on ways to get out of the door each morning without yelling, nagging or forgetting something! The more our children dragged their feet, the more our anger and frustration would rise - only contributing to the disconnection and overwhelm we felt.... We discovered that children need time and practice in order to engage their brain into a morning routine of organization and autonomy - but it can be done... and we know how! Once we started using these techniques we broke the pattern of yelling and anger - and you can too! We've outlined exactly HOW you can create a blissful morning of household harmony in our eBook 'Stress Free Mornings' by Kim Beckinsale and Megan Warren. This step by step guide will: Identify the behaviours that spiral into morning mahem Help recognise our own triggers and challenges in the mornings that are impacting on your children Involve your children in a problem solving based strategy that boosts their autonomy Free children's minds for learning each day - instead of focusing menial tasks Boosting self esteem and independence in your children Making space in your day to enjoy your own time - and be mentally, physically and emotionally energised All this for just $5.95, when you use the code 2020freshstart at the checkout. 05.01.2022 And she ate cake. And she read a book. 2020. The year that exhausted us all, emotionally, physically and mentally.... As a parent educator I saw an opportunity to make a difference and support other parents through this challenging time. But every time I started gathering together ideas and support for others, my own life kept crashing down on me. So I bunkered down to protect myself and my family. And we got through it. This is the advice I would give any other parent facing challenges.... say no to extra things do what makes you happy don’t beat yourself up over missed opportunities Above all... survive. Tomorrow is a new day and 2021 is a new year. Sending you all love and blessings above and beyond what you can imagine Happy New Year #2021 . . . #yourhouseyourrules#consciousparenting#intuitiveparenting#gentleparenting#bekindtoyourself#positiveparenting#magicalchildhood#wildandfreekids#naturalparenting#parenting#mumlife#motherhood#parentlife#motherhood#dailyparenting#unitedinmotherhood#mumsofinstagram#motherhoodrising#letthembelittle#simplychildren#worldoflittles#dailyparenting#australianmum#parentcoach#thevillage#empathy#selfcare#selflove
