25.01.2022 It’s only been recently (this year) that I’ve taken a different approach to how I train my clients and how I run my business. The fact is there are way to many fitness influences/wannabes that are far to self involved and worry about their image more than their clients or followers. This year I decided that I want to be able to educate my clients so that they don’t need me. I have never wanted my clients to be totally dependent on me, being the captain of your own ship is far more important. So in an industry that’s flooded with coaches I pride myself on being a teacher. 20.01.2022 Nice little session with @maryflavell last week loving the smith machine squats a big reason I’ll choose a machine squat over a conventional barbell squat. Is simply because it allows for better range of motion, stability and allows for better leverage position so you can really stimulate(wreck) your quads. 19.01.2022 An explanation on fat loss occurs. Swipe to follow the diagram. 1. The body needs energy, and in order for it to get that energy from a fat cell it needs to receive a signal from the body in the form of catecholamines (see diagram) 2. In response to receiving the catecholamine signal, that fat cell releases its free fatty acids (FFA) into the blood stream.... 3. Once in the blood stream they’re transported through the bloodstream into a target cell (in this case the muscle cell) 4. Once inside that cell it goes through a series of biochemical reactions, where those FFA turn into Acetyl CoA. Then the Acetyl CoA goes through its own biochemical reaction called the Krebs cycle to eventually become ATP which is the bioenergetic currency of life. We don’t run on carbs, fats, protein. 12.01.2022 Continuing on the nutrition train. This is what I talked about in one of my videos the other week. So thought I’d put it up for you all to see clearly. I did not make up this formula, but it is one I use on myself and with clients. Because it’s simple and it works very well! Start off by establishing a baseline intake at 33 cals be kg. Then track for 2-3 weeks to establish whether those calories are maintenance, surplus or deficit. Then simply adjust by 10% either increase ca...lories or decrease calories depending on your goal. Manipulating these two throughout the week or day to day or month to month to achieve your goals.... 2. Peri workout nutrition: That is what you’re eating pre, intra, post workout when training. Not essential but may help with your results. 3. Meal timing & variety: With your different food choices e.g changing from chicken breast to turkey breast or to beef or fish and exactly when in the day are your having meals. Do you have 4 meals or 6 or 2, or are you following something like intermitted fasting. Again all of these things are a little more complex and a little bit higher up on the hierarchy of lower priority’s. This becomes very obvious when you see how your elbows track during this movement. . Whereas this supported lat pull downs direction of the cables, actually line up perfectly with the lat fibres.... . This is a really great! Exercise for beginner athletes up to the very advanced gym goer. Being supported makes this movement great for stabilisation and simplicity. There’s a lot less to get wrong (technique wise) then your standard lat pull down. . We were releasing the pinky to allow elbows to pull in and up, into that front rack position to increase tension through upper back and increase activation through lats, serratus & triceps. 02.01.2022 Over my time training clients and myself, I’ve come to realise the limitations of a traditional barbell back squat to develop lower body size and strength. You just can’t get the same range of motion and intensity as you could in hack squat, leg press or smith machine. And I’m positive that your technique will breakdown and your lower back will fatigue before your able to stimulate sufficient amount of tension in your quads/legs for progression in size or strength. Barbell ba...ck squats aren’t a bad exercise, but all the time they’ll come up short to other options such as smith machines, hack squats, leg press and even lunges where you have more stability and can adjust your body into better leverage positions to stimulate your quads/legs. If you are a power lifter or you don’t have any other options but to barbell back squat, then of course you should/can barbell back squat. All I’m trying to say with this post is that barbell back squats aren’t the be all and end all.
