19.01.2022 Phototoxicity is an adverse skin reaction caused by a combination of ultraviolet light (eg. sunshine) and a phototoxic chemical. One cause of a phototoxic reaction is when people make margaritas in the sun. This is because lemon juice and lime juice both contain phototoxic chemicals and when you squeeze a citrus fruit some essential oil usually comes in to contact with your skin as well as the juice.
