19.01.2022 Phototoxicity is an adverse skin reaction caused by a combination of ultraviolet light (eg. sunshine) and a phototoxic chemical. One cause of a phototoxic reaction is when people make margaritas in the sun. This is because lemon juice and lime juice both contain phototoxic chemicals and when you squeeze a citrus fruit some essential oil usually comes in to contact with your skin as well as the juice. These reactions are not common but they do occur and you need to be aware of the risks.
