23.01.2022 Fantastic!! Stuff facebook & the bloody add in the middle.

20.01.2022 We have had some interesting (nasty) winds over the last few weeks here in Lyndhurst. I got lucky today and struck a better "patch" of weather than my club mates. I was trialling some 180 VLD Copperhead bullets, very impressed with them. Both groups X ring vertical size, Swan barrel.

17.01.2022 I shot this group today at 500 meters. I used a freshly run in Swan barrel 30" X 9" twist 1.250" diameter parallel 7mm barrel chambered in 280HI. The five on the left is a sighter then the following thirteen shots include nine super centers (I ran out of ammo), looks like a keeper. The load was Norma cases, 168 grain Berger VLD Hunting bullets, 2209 powder and CCI BR 2 primers.

16.01.2022 I know the feeling!!!

16.01.2022 Congratulations to all the winners at the Nationals just completed. A special mention of Matt Paroz's fine win in F Open. Matt is a colleague, good friend and a former customer before becoming a fine gunsmith in his own right.

16.01.2022 A nice version of this Cash classic.

16.01.2022 It is my observation that this is a common problem!!

15.01.2022 Words of wisdom

15.01.2022 I would like it known that I do not give permission to Facebook to use ANY pictures posted on my page or ANY page I manage.

14.01.2022 Here we have an Anschutz centerfire action originally in .222. These actions are unthreaded, the factory presses the barrels into the receiver and pins them as they do with their rimfire actions. This one is in for rebarreling, having seen a couple of failures by prominent gunsmiths who tried to duplicate the factory fit only to have the headspace grow over time. I decided there had to be a better way. The picture shows one of these actions that I have threaded. I will post pictures of the barrel and the final fit-up when I do it.

13.01.2022 This post is aimed at the less experienced readers and is to help extract the longest possible life from your expensive cartridge cases and actions. Contrary to popular belief shooting neck sized only cases does not guarantee longer case life. This applies to correctly set up FLS and body sizing dies. If these dies are not set up correctly case life will be reduced and damage to the action bolt lugs and lug abutments can also occur. See the pics below which show the tools req...uired, the pics are of a specific cartridge headspace measuring gauge. To use take a once fired unsized case, measure with the gauge then set the die to size the case with a reduction of .002" in length from the measured length of the case before sizing (shoulder bump), record this measurement for future reference. It is a good idea to check a sample of cases after each resizing. After a number of firings the cases will start to work harden and spring back more after sizing, so the die will need to be readjusted. It is important to note that shooting incorrectly sized cases that result in the bolt resistance on closure should be avoided. Over time the continued use of cases that require "crushing" on bolt closure will surely lead to galled bolt and abutment lugs. I have seen expensive astions ruined by continual use of ammo that has not had the shoulders "bumped" correctly. See more

11.01.2022 An update on the Swan barrel 280 HI project. We had a lovely day on the Lyndhurst rifle range yesterday, a light left to frontal fishtail breeze which brought the windchill temperature to somewhere around zero. the group below was shot with the Swan barrel using Berger 180 VLD bullets 2209 powder S&B cases CCI BR2 primers. First sighter was the six at one o'clock, the two sixes, one on each side of the Supercenter were the last two shots of the string. I managed to overestimate a change then underestimate another change on the last shot. Distance shot was 500m and the barrel has now clocked up 159 rounds. This barrel is a joy to clean and it does so very easily, all in all it is looking like a great barrel, it shoots both Berger 168 & 180 grain VLD's as well as Hornady 180 grain ELD-M bullets.

09.01.2022 The group below was shot at 600yds with my 280HI shooting 175 SMK bullets. The barrel had less than 300 rounds out of it, it's definitely a keeper, I am blessed!! The group was shot as fast as the scorer could call the shots.....under 1.5 minutes. Not a great pic of the group.

08.01.2022 I did some work for myself during last week. I fitted a new barrel to one of my 280HI rifles, ran it in & zeroed it today at 500 yards. Pic 1 is the first 12 shots fired while running it in 2 shots & clean then clean after each 3 shots. The second pic is of the second stage shoot from a clean cold barrel, no sighters, I think this one is a keeper....oh and I was fireforming new cases too!!!

07.01.2022 As promised the pic below is of a group shot from my Swan 280HI barrel. I shot some 180 grain Hornady ELDM bullets at 600 yards, at the completion of this shoot the barrel has shot a total of 76 rounds. 2 X's for sighters both high wound down 6 under the X, corrected to center the group all good. I managed to fire the other 6 just under the X, saw it go !!!!! The barrel shoots very well and is a pleasure to clean. 700 yards next week!!!!!

05.01.2022 Well I have to say that I am suitably impressed with the quality of Swan barrels that I have seen so far....buy Australian. The pic is of a recent Howa 1500 rebarreling job using a Swann SS barrel in 6.5. The chamber was .260 Remington.

04.01.2022 Food for thought, there are many reasons to not "push the envelope".

02.01.2022 Results of the recent NSW Champion of Champions shot on Saturday 6th July. Congratulations to all participants as well as the winners.

01.01.2022 Pictured below is a couple of pictures of a gauge I made today. It is caliber specific and is for wildcat chamberings (this one is for my 280HI), not needed for std chamberngs. It allows two important measurements and checks. Can anyone tell me what purpose it serves?
