23.01.2022 Short Nap Checklist Save this post incase your little one suddenly starts cat napping! Common reasons for short naps:... Age: It is NORMAL and developmentally appropriate for little ones under 4/5 months of age to catnap. Focus on your main sleep foundations and lots of hands on resettling. Sleep Environment: White Noise and Dark Room. The smallest amount of light can signal wake up time when they transition into a lighter sleep phase. Daily Routine: Look at their sleep day as a whole. How much day sleep are they having? What time did they start the day? Overtirdness and also too much sleep will impact their nap lengths. How did they fall asleep at the start of their nap? Resettling is a skill that your baby will develop once they have mastered falling asleep initially. Sleep Regressions and leaps can really throw sleep out. Does this sudden cat napping coincide with a major leap? Are they hungry? For babies under 6 months of age and not well established on solids I recommend offering a top up feed 15mins before their big lunch time nap. Full tummy's make for a better sleep . . . .

20.01.2022 Never wake a sleeping baby... Have you heard people say this? Well, thats not entirely true! Sleep Promotes Sleep ~ It does! BUT their comes a point when your little ones total day sleep can impact their night sleep. If they are sleeping too long during the day, it can cause extended night wakings and also early rising. So when should you wake your little one from a nap? ... If you have a newborn or until your little ones doctor is happy with his/her weight gain you should wake them for a feed every 3 to 4 hours or as directed by their doctor. You wont be able to fit in their next day nap. If your little one has been asleep for 2 or more hours and will struggle to settle for next day nap - wake them. If your little one has been asleep for 3 hours or more. If they have had 2 day naps and both have been 2 hours. If their last nap length will now interfere with bedtime . . . . .

17.01.2022 Sleep while sick It's so hard watching your little love when sick. They are uncomfortable, miserable and too young to communicate how they are feeling. Sleep is likely to be distrupted when they are not well. Frequent night wakings are common and wanting you close by is needed.... Let them sleep. Even If that means in your arms for a nap. Offer more feeds. Don't be stressed about routines. Give them all the comfort and love they need. Once your little one is on the mend it may take a few days to get back into your normal routine. But that's expected. For now soak up those cuddles, your tiny love needs you . . . . .

14.01.2022 When you make changes to your little ones sleep it can feel like you take one step forward and two steps back. It is normal for things to not fall into place all at once - as much as we would like to. Sleep consolidates in different stages: Typically night sleep will improve first before naps.... The morning nap will also fall into place before the lunch time nap. Babies also learn the skill of initalky settling before mastering to resttle. Early Rising is the last piece of the puzzle. It is common for nights to go haywire again when daytime improves. But with consistency and sticking to your approach it will all fall back into place. Infant sleep can be one of the hardest parts of parenthood to navigate because it is always changing with regressions, sickness, growth and development. That is why I find focusing on Sleep Foundations and making sure you are giving your bub the best chance at quality sleep a good place to start Concerntrate on what you can control and try not to stress about what you can't. . . . .
