21.01.2022 What is the latest research saying on how a yoga practice can help those suffering from Endometriosis? #endometriosisawareness Currently incurable, endometriosi...s affects approximately 176 million women worldwide and 1 in 10 during their reproductive years. The tissue that lines the uterus called endometrium grows abnormally and causes pain in the lower abdomen, lower back and/or pelvis. Research suggests that yoga benefits women with endometriosis and the restful and mindful dimensions of the practice can help with pain management. Brazilian researchers divided 40 women randomly with diagnosed endometriosis into 2 groups: those practicing hatha yoga and those going about their regular routine. For 2 months, the yoga group attended 2x 90-minute classes each week. At the end of the study when the two groups were compared, the women doing yoga reported significantly less daily pain, as well as an improved sense of well-being, according to results published in January 2017 in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine [ link to study below ] Many women with endometriosis feel helpless with the conventional treatments that often don’t work for them, so yoga has an important place for those suffering. Although this research is in its early stages, the side effects of yoga are often positive and support using yoga more therapeutically in your life. The mind drifts away to previous conversations, plans for the rest of the day or distractions outside. It’s a good indication of the state of our mind! To be present in this position after an asana practice is to be aware of the effects. To be present and still, allows the prana, the energy to flow freely around the body. One of the main purposes of Shavasana is to bring balance to the nervous system. It requires patience to allow the body to fully relax and to let go of any tensions.
