24.01.2022 The capacity to be happy is very precious. Someone who is able to be happy even when confronted with difficulties, has the capacity to offer light and a sense o...f joy to herself and to those around her. When we are near someone like this, we feel happy, also. Even when she enters hell, she will lighten up hell with the sound of her laughter. - Thich Nhat Hanh, in The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching. #Mindfulness #Happiness

23.01.2022 Leading By Following All streams flow to the sea because it is lower than they are. Humility gives it its power.... If you want to govern the people, you must speak to them humbly. If you want to lead the people, you must learn how to follow them. Therefore although the Sage is above the people, no one feels oppressed. When he is ahead of the people, no one feels hurt. The whole world never exhausts praises for him. Because he competes with no one, no one can compete with him. Tao Te Ching, Chapter 66

19.01.2022 It is said that there are four kinds of horses: excellent ones, good ones, poor ones and bad ones. The best horse will run slow and fast, right and left at the drivers will, before it sees the shadow of the whip; the second best will run as well as the first ones does, just before the whip reaches its skin; the third one will run when it feels pain on its body; the forth will run after the pain penetrates to the marrow of its bones. You can imagine how difficult it is for ...the forth one to learn how to run! When we hear this story, almost all of us want to be the best horse. If it is impossible to be the best one, we want to be the second best. This is, I think, the usual understanding of this story, and of Zen. You may think that when you sit in zazen you will find out whether you are one of the best horses or one of the worst ones. Here, however, there is a misunderstanding of Zen. If you think the aim of Zen practice is to train you to become one of the best horses, you will have a big problem. This is not the right understanding. If you practice Zen in the right way it does not matter whether you are the best horse or the worst one. P38 Zen Mind, Beginners mind by Shunryu Suzuki

19.01.2022 Sit and forget everything. When there is not a single thing in your mind, any circumstance can be freely felt with. If you are full of anxiety and constantly fret about this and that, you will never be able to handle anything well. P115 The Sword of No-Sword, Life of Master Warrior Tesshu by John Stevens.

16.01.2022 "When your techniques are rough it means that you are forcing against the principles...You will not be able to stand up to a stronger opponent so you must try... to follow the principles. Your character comes out in your techniques. So do the habits of your mind. By correcting the techniques, you can correct the bad habits of your mind. If you constantly collide with others in your practice, your mind will develop a habit of clashing with other people." -Koichi Tohei, 10th Dan, founder of Ki Society

01.01.2022 If you try to learn with your intellect, it is more difficult to absorb the teachings on a deep level. The mind looks at something and says, I don't want that; I want this instead. But as you simply continue to train, something changes. What changes is deeper than your intellectual knowledge, deeper than mind or heart.
