25.01.2022 Today the children begin their outreach program.with Kiama Library. We will be visiting the library every Wednesday to establish a relationship with the librarians and community whilst celebrating literacy and reading.

25.01.2022 Kiama Academy has joined the cause with Makuta in their quest to raise funds for suicide prevention organisations for school age youth. Our philosophy and beliefs match Makuta in understanding the importance of mental health in children. We are an established BeYou service and we work towards building mentally healthy communities by ensuring our children feel safe, respected, and understood. Mental health issues can emerge in the younger years so it is important that our families and children feel like they belong to positive and understanding communities to combat mental health issues.

24.01.2022 The children have been using the sandpit to explore different concepts. We promote cognitive development by preparing an interesting, challenging sand play environment. According to constructivist theory (Piaget, 1945), children have an inner drive to build an understanding of their world as they explore and interact with materials. Concepts about how the world works are built gradually and become increasingly complex as the child enters a rich learning environment and exercises his or her freedom to play.

24.01.2022 The report is in........Kiama Academy of Early Learning has been assessed and rated as exceeding the National Quality Standards!! We would love to thank our wonderful providers for all their support, our families and children for choosing us to be a part of the early childhood education journey with them, and of course the dedicated educators we work with everyday.

22.01.2022 Happy new year to our families and community. May 2021 bring us all happiness and love

22.01.2022 When children are encouraged to design their own learning spaces, they build up their sense of empowerment and belonging. Children have the right to have their voices heard and to have a say in what happens in their lives. Giving them the opportunity to be active participants will strengthen their confidence in exercising these rights.

21.01.2022 When brekky is making sure we all have a happy healthy day with our families, at home!!! Weve got this

20.01.2022 Today we transferred knowledge and interest from one context to another as we created a library drama space for the children. Chloe and Charlotte had been playing libraries at home this morning so we decided to add this to the curriculum to support the children's development using social play and community awareness as the driver for participation and learning.

19.01.2022 One of our favourite songs at Kiama Academy used to embed healthy and safe hand washing from children. https://www.facebook.com/groups/248675758568554/permalink/2305723656197077/

19.01.2022 Early Childhood Educators Day celebrates the work of Australias early childhood educators and acknowledges them for their contribution to the wellbeing and healthy development of the young children in their care. We have amazing educators at Kiama Academy who are dedicated to providing high quality education and care for our children. THANKYOU for all your efforts and hard work to give our children the best start to their educational journey

16.01.2022 Tonight Carissa and Shannen attended an online seminar on Trauma Informed Practices in an Early Childhood Setting. They learnt how the impact of childhood experiences can affect the way a young mind works and how these experiences can impact on mental health and wellbeing. They learnt new practices and strategies to compliment our wellbeing and mental health program so that our children feel safe, respected, and supported in their growth and development.

15.01.2022 Science week is celebrated throughout Australia annually, this year falling on 15-23 August and is a way to embrace science and technology. This week the children will become scientists and explore, hypothesise and investigate many different branches of science, some of which will reflect this years theme- Deep Blue: Innovations for the future of our Oceans. Including scientific learning has been an objective of the service in our QIP so our educators have become more confident in their ability to include science in our curriculum.

15.01.2022 Social distancing rules are changing today in NSW. Two adults, and dependent children, can now visit another household. Were encouraging our community to slowl...y ease into the new rules and continue to take necessary precautions. Remember: stay at home if youre sick; practice good personal hygiene; and if you have flu like symptoms, go get tested for COVID. For more information, visit: www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/what-you-can-and-cant-do-under-rules

15.01.2022 As the year winds down, the time has come where we have to say goodbye to our schoolies. What an adventure we have been on. We have been fortunate to have worked with amazing families and we thankyou you all for letting us be a part of the children's learning journey. We will miss you all, please don't forget to visit.

12.01.2022 Today is National Sorry Day and it is a time where we can reflect on the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families. The children and educators yarned about what family means and how hard it must have been for the children and families of the stolen generation. We read the book "Sorry Day" and acknowledged the hardships faced. At Kiama Academy, we work towards reconciliation and have a formal action plan (RAP) where we strive to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our learning environment, build relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the local and broader community.

09.01.2022 Happy Easter to all our amazing families and the Kiama community. We hope you have a magical day filled with love, fun and choccy.

09.01.2022 National Simultaneous Story time is held annually to promote the value of reading and literacy, fun of books, and celebrate an Australian writer and publisher. This year, the Australian Library and Information Association chose Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas for teachers to read to their children. The children loved the fun and dazzling story and dressed up afterwards in sparkles, sequince and feathers to have a dance party.

08.01.2022 Today we read one of our favourite Christmas stories "Santa Koala". We used this book to encourage discussions on what Christmas was like last year for so many animals and families and reflected on the impact the bushfires had on our community and the rest of Australia. We also practised our fine motor control by colouring, cutting, and pasting Santa Koala together. The children enhanced their cognitive abilities by having to follow a sequence and problem solve by choosing what piece of Santa Koala to paste where and in what order.

08.01.2022 We work with families and children to provide learning experiences that are meaningful for them. This morning we learnt that one of the children has been questioning his parents about day time and night time, especially wondering what AM and PM meant in relation to time. We used this input and added an activity to the curriculum that we could do today that supported the child's interest and questioning. By doing this, the activity became relevant and the learning became child focused.

08.01.2022 We have been celebrating and acknowledging the importance of Early learning. Last week we joined early childhood educators, community leaders and children around Australia to celebrate early learning and its importance in helping children build the foundation for wellbeing and success through out their lives. At Kiama Academy we support the children using play based activities that enhance their skills and development whilst working with parents and the wider community to deliver a high quality program.

08.01.2022 The children and educators have been discussing how our actions can impact others positively or negatively. We have looked at empathy, bullying, and supporting others in their time of need. We discussed about the significance of the yellow ribbons we see in the community. We explained to the children we are putting them up to remind the children in our community that we care about them, we will be here for them to feel safe, and if they want to talk they can come in and see a teacher.

07.01.2022 In NSW, the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is the shared responsibility of parents and families, supported by the community, government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). We take this responsibility seriously as early childhood professionals and teach our children about their right to be protected from harm. This year, we have decided to support the Daniel Morcombe Foundation as we respect the work that they do in raising awareness of child safety, protection, and harm prevention. From Friday the 30th, we will be raising funds to donate to the foundation so that they can continue on their plight to educate the community about child safety in memory of Daniel. Each day we will be wearing red to remember Daniel and the importance of keeping our children safe.

07.01.2022 This week we have been unpacking the traditional ideas about gender and stereotyping. Engaging in discussions with children that challenge ideas and practices that can exclude others based on their gender will promote a community of respect and equality. We have been using several literacy sources and teacher initiated conversations to embed gender equality in the classroom.

07.01.2022 Our educators and children will be joining along in this nationwide song of inspiration and strength. You can do so at home! The wellness and wellbeing of our children is paramount at a time like this and empowering them and making them feel safe is imperative. Sending love and good health to all https://facebook.com/events/s/nationwide-sing-a-long/241723320204090/?ti=cl

04.01.2022 Today we had an important discussion about face masks, where we are seeing them being worn, and why we are being encouraged to wear them. The children seem to be adapting to our new world and showing an understanding of COVID and its impact on our cultural practices.

03.01.2022 This year has been a challenging year for all the educators and teachers that work with our children. Today we say thank you to all that you do to help shape the minds of our future leaders. We want to shout out to our parent teachers who have worked hard in primary and secondary schools to give our children the best education and support through a changing world. We also want to acknowledge our wonderful educators at Kiama Academy of Early Learning who have never skipped a beat through the challenges of 2020 by providing high quality education and care for our children.

03.01.2022 Lest we forget...To our family who have served our country, all the past and present servicemen and woman who fought for our freedom, who lost their tomorrows so we could live for today, who still fight for our freedom thankyou Xx

02.01.2022 Our educators and children wanted to remind our community that through these challenging times to remember to look after themselves and each other....Weve got this!!!! The children created their own messages of support on how to keep each other safe from infection and illness, but most importantly, remember to stay happy because that is the best way to be

02.01.2022 Through out the week, Kiama Academy has been reflecting on our role in reconciliation, and how we can build communities that value Aborigianl and Torres Srait Islander peoples, histories, and cultures. Our objective is to embed Aboriginal and Torres Starit Islander perspectives in our program so that a culture of respect and acknowledgement is created.
