22.01.2022 http://ow.ly/TRuC50BBNZa Australia needs a way of addressing the importing of products where slavery is blatantly in the supply chains. Well done on raising this issue Senator Rex Patrick
22.01.2022 PLEASE PRAY Several disasters have struck the world in recent months: Ethiopia’s Tigray conflict has displaced more than 2 million people.... Fiji’s first cyclone of 2021, Cyclone Ana, has battered the Pacific nation this week. It follows the deadly Cyclone Yasa which hit in late December. Cyclone Eloise has hit Mozambique. Severe flooding is affecting families still recovering from Cyclone Idai in 2019 A 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia's West Sulawesi province. Families in the region are still recovering from the deadly tsunami and earthquakes of 2018. And the dire need in Yemen continues to rise. Years of war, cholera and COVID-19 have left the nation facing the worst famine it’s seen in decades. We live in a broken world. But we serve a God who sees every need and every heartache. Please pray that he would bring peace where there is conflict, healing where there is sickness, and safety for those who desperately need it. Thank him for being at work, even amidst the grief and brokenness.

21.01.2022 Long-term change in the global fashion industry will require collaboration. Fashion supply chains are complex - all the way from the cotton field to cutting a...nd sewing the final product. And despite their different styles, headquarters and price points, many of the world’s biggest fashion companies share suppliers... which means that supply chain challenges will not be solved by any one consumer, brand, NGO, or government. Please continue to lift up the voices of garment workers, as you make ethical fashion choices. Remember... each of your small actions can lead to long-term change when we all work together!
19.01.2022 Consider signing the petition if you haven't already done so, this important legislation needs to be passed.
19.01.2022 According to the 2020 Goalkeepers Report from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, COVID-19 has already pushed almost 37 million people into extreme povertya n...umber that is expected to rise to 71 million. This means that 37 million already vulnerable people are now living on just $1.90 USD per day or less. This crisis doesn't end for anyone, until it ends for everyone. 18.01.2022 When you're buying chocolate this Easter, there are some ways you can ensure you're buying the best checked available chocolate. We've compiled a list of produc...ts from companies that are eliminating or are making good progress to help address issues in their supply chains. Find the full list at beslaveryfree.com/chocolate. #GiveThemAGo The five pillars of Mondelez’s Cocoa Life are 1) Farming, 2) Community, 3) Youth, 4) Livelihoods and 5) Environment. They use the Fairtrade independent standard and auditing process to verify their beans and claims, and invest heavily in community development. The Nestle Cocoa Plan aims to improve farming techniques, improve the lives of farming communities, and improve the sustainability of its cocoa bean supply. Nestle was the first company to introduce child labour monitoring and remediation schemes and is estimated to be doing the most.
18.01.2022 The fashion industry is one of the largest employers of women in Asia and the Pacific, where women represent approx. 80% of garment workers On the Internationa...l Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we reflect on how the COVID crisis has impacted global progress towards gender equality in the fashion industry, and around the world. Female garment workers experienced increased violence and harassment throughout the crisis. Unequal pay, dismissal of pregnant workers and a higher burden of unpaid work, among other discriminatory practices, have also continued or worsened. Women are over-represented in many informal and sectors which were disrupted due to COVID-19, with many losing their source of income. The combined loss of many women’s economic independence, and restricted movement caused by COVID lockdowns, saw gender-based violence increase exponentially in 2020 Fear of dismissal from work, or further violence at home means that many do not seek help. Access to support services has also become extremely limited though the pandemic Learn more about the issues that affect the world's vulnerable and how to take action! 15.01.2022 Last week the latest Goalkeepers Report revealed COVID-19 has already pushed almost 37 million people below the US$1.90 a day extreme poverty line. Here's why it is the world's poor who continue to be the hardest hit by this crisis

13.01.2022 Speaking at the launch of the COVAX AMC investment opportunity, Senator the Hon Marise PayneMinister for Foreign Affairssaid that "developed nations sharing d...oses with the world's most vulnerable is key to ending the acute phase of the pandemic." "The test before us is to ensure that all countries have early access to safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines, and COVAX is central to that endeavour." This is the crisis of our generation. As the virus continues to wreak havoc in the world's most vulnerable nations, we must continue to lend a helping hand. Australia has made a great start - with $80m given to COVAX so far - but will need to go further in this next COVAX investment round to ensure we are playing our part in this important initiative. This virus doesn't end for anyone, until it ends for everyone. See more
13.01.2022 "The truth is, COVID doesn't end for any of us until it ends for all of us. This should be all of us in this together, we are interdependent." Tim Costello ...To end COVID-19, every nation is depending on anotherit's a global pandemic, that needs a global solution. Unfortunately, when a large portion of the world is unable to afford enough vaccine doses, it doesn't just put them at riskit has the potential to exacerbate global inequality. 11.01.2022 Today, Micah’s Campaign Director, Matt Darvas, had the privilege of appearing alongside Pacific Conference of Churches General Secretary, Rev. James Bhagwan, at... a public Parliamentary inquiry into strengthening Australia’s relationships with the Pacific. This comes after Micah worked with its members, the PCC, & UAICC - Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress, to make a submission outlining a shared vision for authentic partnerships between Pacific and Australian peoples. Our submission seeks to emphasise the priorities Rev. James calls the, Pillars of the Pacific Household: Ecological Stewardship; Political, Economic and Cultural Self Determination; Gender and Generational Equity, Dignity and Empowerment for Marginalised Communities We also instructed the Government on what we see as ‘foundational principles for partnership’ moving forward, based on; Relationality Sustainability Self-determination and local leadership Drawing on the wisdom of indigenous people of the Pacific, including Australia’s -First Nations Peoples Recognising the strengths of Pacific communities and the value of reciprocity A holistic view of life and development Embracing innovative opportunities for the future. Encouragingly, these priorities and principles are already starting to be recognised in DFAT's new Pacific Church Partnership Program, and we will continue to advocate for deeper engagement and listening to Pacific and First Nations voices still. Read the full submission here: https://bit.ly/3ktO6fB --- Photos from the call: Matt is wearing the shirt gifted to him at the most recent Pacific Church Leaders Meeting in Suva in 2019, which also features the Morning Star flag of West Papua as a display of solidarity in their ongoing struggle for independence. 04.01.2022 We've been asking you to pray for the situations in PNG (COVID health Crisis) and Timor-Leste (flooding). Well, there's some good news to share from over t...he past few days. Our government has made two more announcements regarding assistance for these emergencies. 1. It has been announced that Australia will share at least 10,000 COVID-19 doses per week with PNG, and will scale up as required. These are doses manufactured in Australia. COVID-19 vaccine doses will initially be made available to Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste, which are facing significant COVID-19 outbreaks. Doses will also be made available in coming weeks for Fiji, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. 2. Australia has committed $7 million emergency relief to Timor-Leste. This will include: The immediate provision of personal protective equipment to replenish Timor-Leste’s stores, reduced due to flooding Emergency relief materials such as temporary shelter and critical household items to replace those lost in the floods Financial assistance to the Timorese and Australian Red Cross and other local and non-government organisations helping with the relief efforts Assistance through the World Food Programme to address local food supply shortages. Thanks for your prayers. This is really good news, but we know these crises are far from over. Please keep these nations in your prayers and download our Prayer Resource: https://bit.ly/3ms9B2q

01.01.2022 GREAT NEWS Thanks to the advocacy of more than 24,000 Australians and 200 organisations... Australia has committed $123m to the COVAX Facility that will... help developing countries gain equitable access to a successful COVID vaccine! This global initiative gives both Australia and our neighbours our best chance to #EndCOVIDForAll! Through the Facility, rich and poor countries pool their purchasing power to drive vaccine R&D and manufacturing. The aim is to have 2 billion doses available by the end of 2021 to end the acute phase of this pandemic. This should be enough to protect high-risk and vulnerable people, as well as frontline healthcare workers. It also gives Australia access to a pool of over 170 vaccine candidates and coverage for 50 per cent of our population, if the Oxford and University of Queensland vaccines don’t work out. We know this crisis won’t end for anyone, until it ends for everyone. That’s why this investment is both generous and a smart one too! Thank you for your leadership Marise Payne, Greg Hunt MP & Scott Morrison (ScoMo)
01.01.2022 A challenging verse to reflect on today. How can we let justice 'roll on like a river' in our own lives? I hate, I despise your religious festivals;... your assemblies are a stench to me. Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them. Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!" - Amos 5:21-24 See more
