11.01.2022 Kingscote Campus held their Colour Run event on Friday 18th September. The weather was perfect and the kids had a ball! The Colour Run was all about celebrating wellbeing, kindness and resilience in what has been a challenging year. The Colour Run had a fundraising element and although it was never the main focus, through the support of families and people from within and outside our community, Kingscote Campus has raised an amazing $17,000 to be spent on wellbeing initiatives for our students. Wow! We are so grateful. A big thank you to Steve Palmer who cooked the BBQ and to all the staff and students for your help and positivity on the day. Thank you to everybody that helped make this event happen!

09.01.2022 The SAPSASA Softball Carnival kicked off yesterday with a win for the girls’ team against Pirie, 11-8. Charlotte W and Matekino W pitched and had the other team swinging. The second game, against Murraylands, was all tied up in the first innings but we were tagged out before we could get all our runners home in the second - defeated 14-9 but had some great plays. Marley L and Lily Th both had a shot in pitcher. A big day coming up for the girls - 3 games to play in 33 degrees...! A win for the girls first up today - 9-6 against Central Eyre Peninsula. Tayah S pitched reliably, Lily Th and Matekino W took great catches in the in-field and Matekino followed it up with a double play, getting her runner out on base. Strong, confident base running from the whole team, especially Sascha B. Two more games today, both on a professional diamond. A draw for the girls against Barossa & Light on Diamond 2. We got more of their batters and runners out, but unfortunately that doesn’t show on the scoreboard! A great game by all.

08.01.2022 Another draw for the girls on Tuesday afternoon against Southern Valley. At the end of a big day in very hot conditions they kept getting runs on the board. Daredevil running paid off at times. Lily Th pitched a good game to Eleanor, Bree W and Charlotte W (it’s hot in that catching gear!), and Tayah S hit a home run!

07.01.2022 What does KI mean to you? Year 11 and 12 Integrated Learning students Madison, Whitney and Tiana posed this question to R-5 students at Kingscote campus. They compiled the drawings and written responses they received to create an artwork that is currently on display at the Lion’s Playground opposite the Ozone Hotel. The purpose of this project was to bring the Island’s youth together and help them feel happy, included and connected with our community, especially after the challenges of 2020. Many thanks go to Kangaroo Island Council for funding this project through their Youth Services scheme and for permitting us to display the artwork and share it with the broader community. Thanks also to Graham Pillar and Wren Lashmar for volunteering their time to help install the artwork. Rachel Pillar Year 11 and 12 Integrated Learning teacher

04.01.2022 Regional School of the Year 2020 Three in a row #AusEdAwards

04.01.2022 What a momentous day! We had our first KICE Children’s University Graduations, with 55 students across the three campuses graduating with a Bronze Award (30+ hours), and 8 students graduating with a Silver Award (65+ hours). In what has been a challenging year, these students showed persistence and determination, setting their sights on graduating with their peers. You could sense the students’ joy, excitement, and pride as they were called up to receive their certificate, gr...aduation bear, and bag of books from the Art Gallery of South Australia. Thank you, parents, for supporting your children in this new endeavour. We hope our Graduates will continue accruing hours to graduate again next year, encourage those who joined this year but didn’t quite reach 30 hours to keep working towards their goal, and welcome any 2021 Year 3-8 student to join Children’s University when we re-launch next year. Scoring into the wind in the third quarter was crucial, then KI ran away with the game in the final quarter to record a good win.

04.01.2022 . A lot of warnings have been issued for children to stay off social media, specifically Tik Tok, d...ue to a graphic self harm video that’s circulating. While we do recommend that parents monitor their children or keep them off the platform, it's a band-aid solution for a long-term issue due to the fact that distressing videos constantly circulate online. Instead we would like to encourage all parents and guardians to -: 1 . Understand that they will most likely use it, whether you understand the appeal or not. Ask them what apps they use, find out why they like those apps. Start a dialogue so you can start understanding why it’s important to them. The more you understand about it, the more you can stay across it. 2 . If you know what apps they’re using, help them make their profile as secure as possible, whether it’s TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitch or Reddit (the list is endless). You can do this with the help of this eSafety Commissioner guide: www.esafety.gov.au/key-issues/esafety-guide 3 . Be open and willing to listen. Make them aware of Kids Helpline Official (1800 55 1800), Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636), headspace (headspace.org.au) and Lifeline (13 11 14) so they know they have a place to contact if they don’t feel comfortable approaching you. 4 . Kids often create a social media profile that they make visible to you, but keep their actual profile under a fake name hidden from you. Again, this is why we encourage you to talk to your child openly and honestly. 5 . If your child watches YouTube videos, please be aware there's no guarantee that this content will be safe for kids. People can easily edit distressing videos for kids that slip through the filters. If you can't monitor your child on YouTube then let them watch Netflix kids instead as it has stronger filters. SBS and ABC iview are both free alternatives for children’s online content. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner is a great resource for parents, guardians and kids: www.esafety.gov.au
