25.01.2022 To all of our wonderful Sensational Days patients, We are just letting you know we are still here for you! While COVID-19 has resulted in some changes to our everyday practices, we wanted you to know we are still here to help, although we might look a little different! Here are some things you might notice are a little different when you arrive at the clinic: When you arrive, you will be asked to wash your hands.... There will be hand sanitiser available for you. You will get your temperature checked; we will hover a thermometer over your forehead until it beeps! We will note down your temperature. You may have to sit in a different waiting room so that there are not too many people in one room and your siblings will need to remain in the waiting room while you have your teeth counted. We will be wearing a new, very stylish outfit. This will include a long gown, a hair net and a face shield - dont worry, we can guarantee there are still our usual smiling faces underneath! We cant wait to see you soon! Prior to your appointment, further information will be sent via email to help prepare your child for their appointment. For further information on Sensational Days, please see the link below: https://www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au/sensational-days-at-k/ See more

25.01.2022 Today is R U OK? day, and this year it feels more important than ever to ask.. R U OK? So let's all stay together and support our friends and family and together we'll be ok. For us in Victoria, even though we can't meet up with our friends, stay in contact with a phone call or FaceTime, as just seeing your friends online can help make it a better day! Check out the link for a fun R U OK video for the kids, with the lyrics attached, so the kids can sing along. Stay safe, stay well and ask R U OK? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09qk0lXTfi4

24.01.2022 Now that all our kids are back at school, just some timely advice heading into the warmer months about how to make that daily lunchbox the healthiest it can be. Our friends at sugarbyhalf.com have a website packed with information on ways to reduce your sugar intake. Today's suggestion is to check out the LUNCHBOX DIRTY DOZEN https://www.sugarbyhalf.com/the_lunchbox_dirty_dozen, which include some foods we think are good, but can be crammed full of hidden sugars and not the h...ealthiest choices for little bodies or little teeth. Some of these nasties include: Fruit juice (highly processed and packed full of sugar) Fruit cups or fruit in juice (a huge sugar hit, better to have the fresh fruit) Fruit leather or dried fruit (no fruit benefit and can also stick on the teeth promoting decay) Store bought muesli bars (most are very high in sugar and some contain chocolate or yoghurt covering which add to the sugar content) Biscuits and dip combos (generally highly processed and full of sugars and salts) So when putting together the lunchbox, think fresh... For some additional advice on things to put in a healthy lunchbox, check out our blog https://www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au/healthy-snac/ Have a great day from the Team at Kiddies Dental Care See more

22.01.2022 SO EXCITED to show you some of the things we have put in place at our Buckley Street Practice, that add to our already high level of infection control. We have a sign out the front to let you know what to do when you arrive, and as soon as you walk in the door you will notice some changes. We have sneeze guards in place, sanitising stations, floor markings and posters throughout the practice. And then we have our new exciting Contactless Temperature Screening Stations. These ...replace handheld thermometers and allow us the monitor the temperature of everyone that walks through the door. Even our Croc Mascot got in on the act today and checked to make sure his temperature was all ok. Our priority is to ensure the safety of our patients and our staff, and this equipment and safety processes have been implemented across all of our practices. If you have an upcoming appointment and you or your child are unwell, please ring the team and we can reschedule your appointment. Stay safe out there, mask up and we will get through this together. Have a good weekend. From all of us at Kiddies Dental Care See more

21.01.2022 We are so happy to see that the Australian Dental Association (ADA) has been focusing on how dental practices can improve and adapt their environment to the needs of autistic patients! We have been doing this for a while now at Kiddies Dental Care as our priority is ensuring good quality dental care is available for all children! This is why we commenced our specialised program Sensational Days at Kiddies Dental Care in 2019 , designed for children with autism spectrum diso...rder, sensory processing disorders and dental anxiety! To help make things a little easier for parents, we have created Kiddies Dental Care Social Stories for Buckley Street and Werribee, which will give your child a step by step explanation of what they can expect during a visit to us. Click on the link below to our Sensational Days page on our Website, here you will find the links to both Social Stories. https://www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au/sensational-/ If you have any questions or would like to enquire more about Sensational Days at Kiddies Dental Care, contact us on 03 9372 8960. 19.01.2022 Happy Tuesday Everyone. Another great few days for Melbourne and our Covid numbers. As mentioned all the way through this pandemic, we need to continue to be tested if you are feeling unwell or have any symptoms, and this also includes your children. NSW Health have created a great video to show to your child if they do need to have a Covid test and what will happen during the test which hopefully makes them feel a bit less worried about having one!. So lets keep wearing those masks, stay healthy and have a great week from the Team at Kiddies Dental Care https://www.facebook.com/NewSouthWalesHealth/videos/2693304574215662/?v=2693304574215662

18.01.2022 REGULAR DENTAL VISITS - PREVENTION IS KEY! Question: I have no pain, why would I visit the dentist? Answer: Tooth decay, gum disease and other pathologies may not cause pain until they are well advanced. Our mouths need maintenance every 6 months to ensure that our teeth and gums are healthy and that we are on track with our oral hygiene at home. When you visit the dentist, we check much more than your teeth! We look at your jaw and its function..., the health of your soft tissues and gums, the way your teeth align, as well as check for any decay visually and with x-rays (as we covered yesterday, decay can hide in between the teeth). We may also provide professional cleaning, oral hygiene instruction and advice. If your mouth is not healthy it can result in the need for costly treatment, pain, infection, inability to chew well, all resulting in a decreased quality of life! Healthy teeth and gums mean that you can eat, speak and smile with confidence! Seeing your dentist regularly means that oral health issues can be detected early or prevented! Your childs first dental visit should be just after their first tooth appears or by the age of one. You can book an appointment online via our website or call (03) 9372 8960. www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au If your child is highly anxious about visiting the dentist, they may be more suited to our Sensational Days program. With COVID-19 we have made some changes to our waiting areas and have removed most of the wonderful things that keep the kids entertained. But there is an easy fix... just bring you own and create your own magical masterpiece. If you want to see the other changes we have made, please click on this link! https://www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au/kiddies-and-the-cooki/ A big thank you for your ongoing support from the Team at Kiddies Dental Care

16.01.2022 HOW MUCH SUGAR IS IN YOUR TROLLEY?? How much sugar should we be consuming to maintain a healthy smile? How do we know how much sugar is in our food? Is there a difference between natural and added sugars? How does sugar affect our teeth? Certain bacteria that live on our tooth surfaces consume the sugar we eat and turn it into acid! The acid sits on the tooth surface and draws out the minerals that make it strong, causing it to weaken - this is called an acid attack. This ...happens every time we eat. If these acids attacks occur often, and there is not enough protection provided to the teeth, this can result in tooth decay! Could you imagine eating 14 teaspoons of sugar? Figures show that the average Australian consumes a whopping 14 teaspoons of sugar per day! The World Health Organisation (WHO) suggests that a maximum of 6 teaspoons (or 24 grams or less) of sugar per day can increase your overall health as well as decrease the risk of tooth decay. A great place to start with knowing how much sugar we are actually consuming is by reading food labels. Use the per 100g column to compare foods. Aim for less than 10 grams of sugar per 100 grams, but less than 5 grams is even better! This includes both natural and added sugars. Did you know that sugar comes in many forms and can be called many different names? This can make it very difficult to detect on food/drink labels. Some examples to look out for include: Brown/raw/palm sugar Cane juice Corn syrup & high fructose corn syrup Maltodextrin Maltose Glucose Sucrose HELPFUL HINTS: Saying no in the supermarket to an unhealthy item means that you do not have to continue saying no at home. Fresh is best! Packaged foods are generally higher in sugar than fresh alternatives. No added sugar does not mean it is sugar free! Hidden sugars in everyday foods can increase your overall intake very quickly! Products that claim to have no added sugars can still contain a LOT of sugars! If it is sugar free it does not always mean that it is a tooth friendly choice. Sugar free carbonated drinks (including soda water), cordials and snacks can be acidic to the oral environment and still cause the tooth enamel to become weak. Minimise grazing throughout the day, this will result in less acid attacks. Rinse with water after eating to wash away debris and help the saliva to buffer back to a healthy pH. For more information and suggestions for tooth-friendly snacks, see our blog: https://www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au/healthy-snacks-health/

14.01.2022 Does your child always breathe through their mouth? You may not think anything of it, but constant open mouth breathing can affect your child in many ways. During your child’s dental appointments you may be asked questions regarding their airway health. Here are some of the reasons why investigating mouth breathing is so important: To assess for compromised airways such as enlarged tonsils, adenoids and/or undiagnosed conditions (e.g rhinitis). ... It can be associated with obstructive sleep apnea, which can be linked to restless sleeping patterns, daytime concentration problems, daytime sleepiness and bedwetting. It can lead to dental malocclusion (misalignment of teeth). It is linked to poor tongue posture and low muscle tone. It can cause bad breath Why nasal breathing is important: Breathing is one of the body’s vital functions. Effective nasal breathing aids filtration of toxins, adequate uptake of oxygen and regulation of body temperature. Ineffective nasal breathing can lead to poor tongue posture, and evidence shows having a low tongue posture can alter the development of the hard palate. Additionally mouth breathing during sleep can dehydrate the mouth, allowing bacteria to release odour (halitosis). If you have any questions or you are concerned about your child breathing through their mouth, ask us at your next dental appointment. Our Oral Myology team at Kiddies Dental Care may be able to help you and your child. Or call and speak with one of the team as to how we can help. 03 9372 8960 See more

13.01.2022 Its our favourite week of the year! ITS DENTAL HEALTH WEEK! Dental Health Week is the Australian Dental Associations (ADA)s major annual oral health campaign which takes place every year in the first week of August. During this week we aim to educate you on the importance of good oral health! We will be posting a new theme each day with information to help you achieve the healthiest and happiest smile!... The ADA and this year's campaign aims to educate Australians about the importance of maintaining good oral health by promoting four key messages: Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Clean between your teeth daily using floss or interdental brushes. Eat a healthy, balanced diet and limit sugar intake. Visit the dentist regularly for check-ups and preventive care. Each day we will focus on one of these themes! This year, the ADA has decided to concentrate their campaign on the harm that sugar does to oral health with the focus on How much sugar is hiding in your trolley which draws on the concept of hidden sugars and how to read food labels. So of course, our first session will be on how to GET SUGAR SAVVY. SO GET EXCITED and stay tuned for our first session tomorrow! HAPPY DENTAL HEALTH WEEK from the Team at KIDDIES DENTAL CARE See more

13.01.2022 The Team at Kiddies Dental Care are well prepared to continue to see your child, as we are following the highest standards required in response to COVID-19 We have made some changes to our practices in Essendon, Werribee and Buckley Street, and we thought we would have our good friend Cookie Monster to show you around. If you have an upcoming appointment it would be a great idea to watch this together with your child.

12.01.2022 Welcome 2021! Sensational Days in Buckley Street are back up and running alternating fortnightly between Tuesday Morning and Thursday Morning. At Werribee Clinic, Sensational Days will be running alternating fortnightly between Monday morning and Friday morning. For those of you that haven't heard of our Sensational Days Clinic, they are sessions that are booked specifically for our ASD, sensory or dentally anxious patients. You can read more on our website https://www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au/sensational-days/ or call us on 03 9372 8960. We are SO excited to see you!

12.01.2022 FLOSSING! Did you know that nearly half of the surface of your teeth lies between them? If youre solely relying on brushing, youre not cleaning a significant portion of your teeth, which can impact the health of our teeth and gums. By removing the plaque from in between your teeth you can help to prevent tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath! It is important to add flossing into your childs oral care routine as soon as the teeth start to touch - for some children this c...an be before 3 years of age. Dental decay often starts in between the teeth so it is important that we keep these areas as clean and healthy as possible! Children below the age of 10 should always be assisted with flossing as it can be tricky! Many parents that visit us express how difficult flossing can be for their children. Here are our top tips for flossing for your child: Introduce the concept of flossing early and lead by example! This will get your child familiar with the idea before it comes time to need to implement it into their routine. Practice makes perfect! The more you floss, the easier it becomes! If you would like to share the duty with your child, allow them to floss the front teeth, then you do the back! There are many different floss aids available - choose one that works best for you and your child. For improved access and visibility, lie your child down while flossing. This can work well in bed, or with their head in your lap. Routine dental x-rays help us check that in between the teeth are strong and healthy - so make sure you visit your dentist regularly! For more information on flossing, see our blog: https://www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au/start-flossing-childs/ Have a great Thursday... from all of us at KIDDIES DENTAL CARE :)

09.01.2022 If your child is anxious or scared to visit the dentist, they may benefit from desensitisation appointments at Kiddies Dental Care! Desensitisation is a common method used to help improve anxieties and phobias. At Kiddies Dental Care, we do this by gently introducing the dental environment over frequent appointments until your child becomes comfortable. Each child is different and some may take longer to feel safe - which is perfectly okay! We use ...positive reinforcement throughout our desensitisation process to help your child feel excited each time they visit us. Sensational Days at Kiddies Dental Care offer desensitisation appointments to help improve your childs confidence in the dental environment! Unfortunately due to current Stage 4 Restrictions, these appointments have been put on hold. However, this is a GREAT opportunity to introduce the idea of dental visits to your child by using our social stories to prepare for their future appointment! We have social stories for both our Buckley Street and Werribee practices and here you can see what a dental visit will look like. If youd like to read more, please follow the link below: https://www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au/sensational-days-at-k/ If you have any questions or would like to talk to one of our team, please do not hesitate to call 03 9372 8960. 09.01.2022 Dear Patients, The Team at Kiddies Dental Care is doing everything we can to keep you informed on the latest changes to your childs dental care during this time. If your child is in pain or has a dental emergency please contact us straight away. So it got us thinking....if you see something online that you think is a great way to keep in contact with what's going on and something that the kids (and us parents fro that matter) would love. Post it here so we ca...n all get some enjoyment from it. It can be music, positive memes...anything. Let's keep our community spirit going, even if we have to think of different and fun ways to do it! https://chipandco.com/actor-josh-gad-is-reading-books-to-/

05.01.2022 Its day 3 of DENTAL HEALTH WEEK and today we are going to talk about BRUSHING! Here are some helpful tips when it comes to brushing teeth! Use a small, soft toothbrush. If the head is too big it can be tricky to clean those hard to reach places. Medium and hard brushes can damage the teeth and gums so avoid using these! Less is more. Despite the large amount of toothpaste applied to toothbrushes in advertising, you actually only need ...one pea-sized amount of toothpaste on your toothbrush! Use age-appropriate fluoride toothpaste to help keep your teeth strong! Brush for 2 minutes morning and night - you can use a timer or brush to a 2 minute song that you like to make it fun! Tilt your brush at a 45 degree angle so that your brush is cleaning your gums as well as your teeth! For manual toothbrushing, brush in gentle, small circles! If you have an electric toothbrush, just hold it still at each tooth for 3 seconds. Remember to brush the outside, the inside and the chewing surfaces of your teeth on both the upper and lower arches! Finish by brushing your tongue to remove bacteria from your mouth. SPIT DONT RINSE. Avoid rinsing your mouth with water after so that your toothpaste can keep working for longer! Parents should be assisting with toothbrushing until around the age of 9! Remember to brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day! 05.01.2022 We have all been wearing masks for so long, we thought we would do something a little special. Watch out for our team members wearing their new SMILEY BADGES, so even if you can't see our smiles behind our masks, you can still see our smiling faces. We are getting through this Melbourne, so stay safe, stay well and wear a mask! And a big thank you to http://www.cuttingart.com.au for the badges. Give them a call and hire a machine if you would like to make your own :)

01.01.2022 We have previously been advised by the Federal Government that dentistry is considered an essential service. At this stage we have been informed that healthcare, including dentistry, is considered essential in Victoria. However, we are awaiting clarification from the Victorian Government on exactly what areas of dentistry may need to be deferred. We will update our patients as soon as we know more.

01.01.2022 Hope you all had a great weekend and are excited about the week ahead.

01.01.2022 In light of the ever-changing Covid 19 developments. We thought it would be a good idea to remind you of the precautions we have in place to protect you and our team. As we always do, we are operating at the highest level of infection control. Screening prior to your appointment will take place and you will be asked to complete this. Temperature checks and hand sanitising are required upon arrival. There are limits to the amount of people that can be in our waiting a...reas, therefor waiting in your car and contacting the the team to let them know you are waiting in the carpark is an option. There is also a limit to the number of people allowed in the treatment room, we ask that you limit the amount of people you bring to the appointment. The treatments rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each appointment, and all staff are using the appropriate PPE. We ask that if you have any concerns or if you or your child are unwell please call our team to reschedule. And don't forget to look out for our Cookie Monster Visits the Dentist email, which we send though to you the day before your appointment, to help prepare your child for the changes at Kiddies Dental Care. Thank you for taking the time to read this update and we look forward to seeing you and your child at their next appointment. See more
