24.01.2022 TODAY IS WORLD CAVITY-FREE FUTURE DAY, a day to focus on what we can do to aim for a cavity-free future for our children. Some alarming global dental statistics have been released, announcing 44% of the world's population suffer from tooth decay, over 600 million children worldwide are affected by tooth decay, globally almost 100% of adults have tooth decay and 30% of adults aged from 65 -74 no longer have their natural teeth.....WOW! So what can we do? We n...eed to focus more on our dental health and educate our children on the importance of looking after their teeth from an early age. This includes: Brushing your teeth twice a day with toothpaste that includes fluoride and don't forget daily flossing! Reducing the amount of sugary foods in your diet, and make sure to check for the sneaky hidden sugars! Regular dental visits for those important check ups to maintain good oral health. We will be following up with some videos and information to help you and your children learn about the importance of a lifetime of good oral health. If you have any concerns about your child's teeth, as always contact us on 03 9372 8960 and we can make you an appointment to see one of our amazing team. See more

24.01.2022 We all know that sugary drinks are bad for our children's dental health, but how do we replace them and what do we replace them with? The best thing is to set them on the path of healthy drinks to begin with by offering water and milk. But if you need some inspiration, check out Sugarbyhalf who have some simple suggestions for you to try. https://www.sugarbyhalf.com/easy_sugary_drinks_swaps Limiting the amount of sugary drinks your children have not only benefits their dental health but also their overall health. Have a great day from the Team at Kiddies Dental Care

19.01.2022 It's almost Halloween for 2020 and it's going to look a little different this year. But as always, it's still super important to make sure that those little teeth are cleaned really well after night of treats. Try to avoid sticky lollies and fizzy drinks Limit the amount of sugary treats children can have Rinse your mouth with water after eating anything sugary Chew sugar free gum to stimulate saliva, which can neutralise the acid ...attacks Make sure your children brush and floss their teeth before going to bed Have alternatives such as small toys or fun trinkets But make sure to HAVE FUN. Happy Halloween from the Team at Kiddies Dental Care See more

15.01.2022 Are your teenagers worried about the colour of their teeth? It is important to acknowledge that adult teeth are naturally more yellow in appearance compared to baby teeth. Often teenagers can become bothered by this appearance, however it is unlikely for an expert to intervene unless it is disfiguring to a patient and causing psychological confidence problems. Applying tooth whitening before permanent teeth have fully developed can put teens at risk of slight but rep...airable nerve damage. It is generally advised by dental professionals to avoid teeth whitening before the age of 18. We recommend that teenage patients visit a dental professional when considering teeth whitening to ensure that there is no active disease present and evaluate the type of discolouration and whether they are likely to get a result from bleaching. In the dental chair we are able to do this safely, along with assessing if the chemicals will cause any problems. Additionally, social media and online influencers can lead to teenagers investing in DIY teeth whitening. Some products may not be effective and others can be quite abrasive which may lead to dental complications. Teeth discolouration can also be diet related and regular dental cleans can help address some of the staining. In some cases your dentist may recommend introducing a whitening toothpaste into your oral hygiene routine. We highly advise not to engage in any teeth whitening routine before consulting with your dental professional, as simple changes may lead to dental problems if not managed correctly. If you have any concerns with the colour or your teenagers teeth, please contact us or ask us at your next appointment. See more

15.01.2022 We have all been wearing masks for so long, we thought we would do something a little special. We are getting through this Melbourne, so stay safe, stay well and wear a mask! And a big thank you to http://www.cuttingart.com.au for the badges. Give them a call and hire a machine if you would like to make your own :)

14.01.2022 If your child is anxious or scared to visit the dentist, they may benefit from desensitisation appointments at Kiddies Dental Care! Desensitisation is ...a common method used to help improve anxieties and phobias. At Kiddies Dental Care, we do this by gently introducing the dental environment over frequent appointments until your child becomes comfortable. Each child is different and some may take longer to feel safe - which is perfectly okay! We use positive reinforcement throughout our desensitisation process to help your child feel excited each time they visit us. Sensational Days at Kiddies Dental Care offer desensitisation appointments to help improve your child’s confidence in the dental environment! Unfortunately due to current Stage 4 Restrictions, these appointments have been put on hold. However, this is a GREAT opportunity to introduce the idea of dental visits to your child by using our social stories to prepare for their future appointment! We have social stories for both our Buckley Street and Werribee practices and here you can see what a dental visit will look like. If you’d like to read more, please follow the link below: https://www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au/sensational-days-at-k/ If you have any questions or would like to talk to one of our team, please do not hesitate to call 03 9372 8960. 12.01.2022 We are so happy to see that the Australian Dental Association (ADA) has been focusing on how dental practices can improve and adapt their environment to the needs of autistic patients! We have been doing this for a while now at Kiddies Dental Care as our priority is ensuring good quality dental care is available for all children! This is why we commenced our specialised program ‘Sensational Days at Kiddies Dental Care’ in 2019 , designed for children with autism spectrum diso...rder, sensory processing disorders and dental anxiety! To help make things a little easier for parents, we have created Kiddies Dental Care Social Stories for Buckley Street and Werribee, which will give your child a step by step explanation of what they can expect during a visit to us. Click on the link below to our Sensational Days page on our Website, here you will find the links to both Social Stories. https://www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au/sensational-/ If you have any questions or would like to enquire more about Sensational Days at Kiddies Dental Care, contact us on 03 9372 8960. 08.01.2022 It’s day 3 of DENTAL HEALTH WEEK and today we are going to talk about BRUSHING! Here are some helpful tips when it comes to brushing teeth! Use a small, soft toothbrush. If the head is too big it can be tricky to clean those hard to reach places. Medium and hard brushes can damage the teeth and gums so avoid using these! Less is more. Despite the large amount of toothpaste applied to toothbrushes in advertising, you actually only need ...one pea-sized amount of toothpaste on your toothbrush! Use age-appropriate fluoride toothpaste to help keep your teeth strong! Brush for 2 minutes morning and night - you can use a timer or brush to a 2 minute song that you like to make it fun! Tilt your brush at a 45 degree angle so that your brush is cleaning your gums as well as your teeth! For manual toothbrushing, brush in gentle, small circles! If you have an electric toothbrush, just hold it still at each tooth for 3 seconds. Remember to brush the outside, the inside and the chewing surfaces of your teeth on both the upper and lower arches! Finish by brushing your tongue to remove bacteria from your mouth. SPIT DON’T RINSE. Avoid rinsing your mouth with water after so that your toothpaste can keep working for longer! Parents should be assisting with toothbrushing until around the age of 9! Remember to brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day! For more tips on brushing, see our blog: https://www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au/brushing-2by2/ HAVE A GREAT WEDNESDAY....from all of us at KIDDIES DENTAL CARE! #kiddiesdentalcare #dentalhealthweek #specialistdentist #kidsdentist #paediatricdentistry #paediatricdentist #dentistforkids #essendondentist #mooneepondsdentist #werribeedentist #dentistvisit #childrensdentist #healthyteeth #healthysmiles #healthykids #kidsteeth #brushyourteeth See more

04.01.2022 It’s our favourite week of the year! IT’S DENTAL HEALTH WEEK! Dental Health Week is the Australian Dental Association’s (ADA)’s major annual oral health campaign which takes place every year in the first week of August. During this week we aim to educate you on the importance of good oral health! We will be posting a new theme each day with information to help you achieve the healthiest and happiest smile!... The ADA and this year's campaign aims to educate Australians about the importance of maintaining good oral health by promoting four key messages: Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Clean between your teeth daily using floss or interdental brushes. Eat a healthy, balanced diet and limit sugar intake. Visit the dentist regularly for check-ups and preventive care. Each day we will focus on one of these themes! This year, the ADA has decided to concentrate their campaign on the harm that sugar does to oral health with the focus on ‘How much sugar is hiding in your trolley’ which draws on the concept of hidden sugars and how to read food labels. So of course, our first session will be on how to ‘GET SUGAR SAVVY’. SO GET EXCITED and stay tuned for our first session tomorrow! HAPPY DENTAL HEALTH WEEK from the Team at KIDDIES DENTAL CARE See more

03.01.2022 REGULAR DENTAL VISITS - PREVENTION IS KEY! Question: I have no pain, why would I visit the dentist? Answer: Tooth decay, gum disease and other pathologies may not cause pain until they are well advanced. Our mouths need maintenance every 6 months to ensure that our teeth and gums are healthy and that we are on track with our oral hygiene at home. When you visit the dentist, we check much more than your teeth! We look at your jaw and it’s function..., the health of your soft tissues and gums, the way your teeth align, as well as check for any decay visually and with x-rays (as we covered yesterday, decay can hide in between the teeth). We may also provide professional cleaning, oral hygiene instruction and advice. If your mouth is not healthy it can result in the need for costly treatment, pain, infection, inability to chew well, all resulting in a decreased quality of life! Healthy teeth and gums mean that you can eat, speak and smile with confidence! Seeing your dentist regularly means that oral health issues can be detected early or prevented! Your child’s first dental visit should be just after their first tooth appears or by the age of one. You can book an appointment online via our website or call (03) 9372 8960. www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au If your child is highly anxious about visiting the dentist, they may be more suited to our Sensational Days’ program. 03.01.2022 Dear Patients, The Team at Kiddies Dental Care is doing everything we can to keep you informed on the latest changes to your childs dental care during this time. We are following the advice of the Victorian DHHS, which advises that all Dentists are now in STAGE 4 RESTRICTIONS. This means that Dental Practitioners in metropolitan Melbourne can only provide URGENT CARE. Stage 4 restrictions are aligned to the Victorian Government’s current State of Disaster and focus on saving ...and protecting the lives of all Victorians through restricting non-essential movement across the state. So what does all this mean for you and your child? The team at Kiddies Dental Care is still here for you, but we are limited to urgent and emergency care, such as acute dental pain or significant dental trauma. If your child is in pain or has a dental emergency please contact us straight away. If this happens after hours, we have information on our website that may help. https://www.kiddiesdentalcare.com.au/dental-emergencies-ho/ If you have non-urgent concerns about your child's teeth and would like to talk to one of our team, TELEDENTISTRY CONSULTS are available. Please contact us or HEAD TO OUR WEBSITE to make a booking. Your routine dental treatment and check-ups will be deferred and our team will be contacting you to reschedule these appointments over the coming weeks. At Kiddies Dental Care, as always, the health and safety of our patients and our staff are most important. If you have any questions or need clarification would like to make a non-urgent phone consultation, please call the team on 03 9372 8960.
