25.01.2022 I had a special day at work today. (I always do but today made me feel especially proud and excited). Master H, aged 3 years and 10 months, presented to our clinic late last year after being flagged at his 3.5 year maternal health check as not seeing well. When I saw him last year, his vision was severely uneven and reduced: R 6/15 L 6/75. This script renders the left eye almost legally blind. Master H had no 3D vision or depth perception as his two eyes were not able to coo...rdinate and see the world together. We used specialised lenses to correct his long-sightedness and astigmatism to aid in growing his visual system and were seeing improvements in his vision each review. It is now one year later and H has equal vision in each eye. We managed to do this with no patching either. Master H has almost perfect depth perfection just in time for his first year at school next year. An amazing and heart-warming story that I am privileged to be able to share. I love my work but these stories make me even more proud of what we do and the technology we seek out to give each little (and big!) patient the chance to learn and thrive. #kiddieseyecare #kids #australia #williamstown #seddon #yarraville #spotswood #footscray #newport #werribee #geelong #oceangrove #australia #kidsvision #learning #school #optometrist #melbourne #ourstories #astigmatism

25.01.2022 One in five too many, we think! Our vision is precious, and it’s optimisation is actually one of the most important things required to learn. Good teaming, tracking and coordination between the eyes is integral for tasks that school activities demand, including reading, writing and copying the board. Dentist appointments are a given for children, so why aren’t eye tests?... Holistic eye tests with behavioural optometrists are key in detecting common eye issues which may lead to learning difficulties and developmental delays. Give your child the best chance to learn and to thrive. #kiddieseyecare #yarraville #melbourne #geelong #melbournemums #melbournekids #geelongmums #geelongkids #eyetest #learning #kidsvision

23.01.2022 Big smiles for healthy vision Today is World Sight Day, bringing attention to blindness and visual impairment. Whilst these affect a lot of adults, visual conditions still exist in children and should be monitored and treated! 1 in 4 children have an undetected visual problem. Visual problems, no matter how mild, can lead to learning difficulties and hinder your child at school. A simple, comprehensive eye test can rule out any of these eye issues and equip your child with ...the tools to be their best selves. ... oh, and it helps when their glasses are this *adorable* because they’ll see better, feel better, learn better and be more confident in themselves. Happy vision = happy kids - it’s that simple! #kiddieseyecare #geelong #yarraville #melbourne #victoria #melbournemums #geelongmums #aussiekids #kids #learning #australia #kidsglasses #catiminiglasses #kidsvision #worldsightday2020 #worldsightdayau #optometrist #learningdifficulties #eyetest #whattodomelbourne

23.01.2022 Comprehensive eye examinations should be your first port of call when it comes to your child and their vision! - Visual issues and vision-related learning difficulties can often go undiagnosed and untreated, leading to a number of children failing to thrive in and outside of the classroom and unable to grow into their full potential and best self. The three visual conditions listed are becoming increasingly more common in children and the prevention of their progression is so... important to catch early. Good management can lead to better visual outcomes as well as a reduction of increased visual health risks in the future, such as glaucoma and macula degeneration. - So, unfortunately, whilst this post hasn’t been able to answer the question in the search box, at the end of the day, nothing except an eye examination will be able to give you the answers you need! (Yep, not even a google search. 19.01.2022 I feel like 2020 would be a deceptive candy. What started off as the year of vision, the year of 2020 sight, quickly turned to one hurdle after another. It was one where you think it’s going to be great or at least above mediocre and then when you try it, it is a major letdown.... And it isn’t a letdown so you can keep eating it, no it is a letdown to the point of spitting it out and gagging. Then washing your mouth out with water, but not swallowing the water because you want the taste out of your mouth so much it is easier to just spit the water out. For some people I know, 2020 has been great, they’ve fixed their mental health and have found various new hobbies, but for others 2020 has been absolutely horrible. It all depends on perspective. had. So while this is just my opinion, I’ll let you decide what candy describes 2020. That way you can base it on your experiences and likes and dislikes. . 18.01.2022 Both of our eyes were designed to see the world equally. Unfortunately, this is not the case for everyone: Amblyopia is when one eye does not see as well as the other. This may be caused by: Uneven Refraction... Strabismus (turned eyes) Uncorrected Astigmatism Long-sightedness (Hyperopia) Congenital Myopia Family history or genetics The brain automatically chooses to ignore the blurred image from the weaker eye. The nerves are not stimulated and can often regress. It is important to assess and treat this problem to balance out your vision. Often glasses are able solve this problem. Kiddies Eye Care proudly works with a Melbourne-based lens company to make specialised lenses which are specifically targeted to assist with the growth of the neurones to the visual cortex. High-definition digital, quality lenses with differing design, including anti-Fatigue or Shaw lens have produced amazing results. In many cases we have had such vast improvements that have eliminated the need to patch. Occlusion therapy may also be required in some situations where unequal vision in both eyes continues. By patching the good eye, the weaker eye is encouraged to wake up and work. Alternatively, atropine drops are able to achieve the same mechanism. We strive to achieve that all our children have a spare tyre with regards to two eyes working. Only once the vision is improved can the eyes then learn to see together and promote stereopsis/3D/depth perception. #amblyopia #astigmatism #longsighted #football eyes #vision #blurry #geelong

18.01.2022 Some children with vision problem are mislabeled as having ADHD. Studies show that 20-25% of children with inattention that are labelled ADHD are actually due to undiagnosed vision tracking or converge problems. Do you find your child having poor and short attention? Are they forgetful?... Are they distracted? Do you have to remind them to do simple things like tidy their rooms or do their homework? Are they easily distracted in class? Do they look around? Are they Restless? Are they impulsive and talk too much in class? Before the ADHD diagnosis and treatment is made please ensure children are tested thoroughly. #VitaminD #VitD deficiency can also cause attention difficulty and mood swings. Anemia, #hypoglycaemia, gluten intolerance and allergies can cause inattention. A comprehensive #vision examination with a #behavioural optometrists can make all the difference. 16.01.2022 We can protect our eyes in many ways. The use of sunglasses, safety specs and dry eye drops all assist in their own way. Many vitamins are also effective antioxidants that protect the eyes from oxidative damage and infection. 15.01.2022 Joy, in our family, is definitely unique for everyone. For my daughter, it’s loving her studies and being confident and passionate about what she does. For my other daughter, it’s about seeing how many seasons of TV series she can finish in a uni semester. For my son, it was returning back to school this week with his friends.... For my husband, it’s cooking a meal for the family enjoy (and car shopping for everyone else!). And for me... it’s seeing the faces of my beautiful staff and patients each day. Maybe a big cup of gin and a board of cheese too. What’s your joy? @aestheticsofjoy

14.01.2022 The older we get, the fewer tears we produce. With age, the tear glands in your eyes will produce fewer tears. This is particularly true for women experiencing hormone changes. As a result, your eyes may feel dry and irritated. Having an adequate amount of tears is essential for keeping your eyes healthy and for maintaining clear sight. #tears #older #funfact #eyefacts #dryeye

12.01.2022 The recent lockdown has lead to an increase in Shortsighted vision in kids. As we are one of the largest kids frame stockists, we are getting a lot of children presenting with prescriptions from optometrists who don’t understand myopia what they can do to slow down this progression. Please do no just settle for the cheaper single vision lens for your child. We can try and help this progression. Dont let statistics become reality. It is predicted that half the worlds popula...tion will become myopic by the year 2050. 09.01.2022 Long-sightedness is caused by a short eye. Most infants are born long sighted and gradually emetropise to become normal sighted by preschool age; however, this is not always the case. Untreated longsighted can cause visual blur particularly at near. This may result in poor attention span, difficulty at concentrating and focusing when reading. It is not uncommon to have headaches, and eyestrain. Children may often hold the near tasks very close. In longstanding uncorrected cases, Hyperopia can lead to lazy eyes including esophoria (turned in eyes). Reading spectacles often solve this problem allowing not only clearer vision but making it easier to focus.

09.01.2022 Shhhhh. The secret is out. This is how we do it. We love testing children including babies of all ages. Miss A had her first eye exam today and was amazing. 06.01.2022 They may be small, but our eyes are very complex organs that can multi task. In a very basic form, eyes are thought to have first developed in animals around 550 million years ago! ... You actually see with your brain, not your eyes. Our eyes function like a camera, capturing light and sending data back to the brain. You see things upside down - it is your brain which turns the image the right way up. In a single second, it’s possible to blink five times. You are likely to blink more often when you are talking. The eye is the fastest muscle in your body hence why when something happens quickly, we say ‘in the blink of an eye!’ A blink typically lasts 100-150 milliseconds. The human eye can function at 100% at any given moment, without needing to rest. Red-eye in photos is caused by light from the flash bouncing off the capillaries in your eyes. If the human eye was a digital camera, it would have 576 megapixels. #happyweekend #funfacts #Eyefacts #beautyofnature #cameraandeye #organofbody #eyefact #didyouknow #funfacts #optometrist #optometry #optometrists #optometria #eyetest #yarravillevillage #yarraville #geelong
