25.01.2022 Boat propellers pose a risk that is easily ignored because they are under the water. Always watch the prop and remember: Inspect the area near the back of the... boat to ensure the area is clear before starting the engine. Turn the engine off near people in the water even when retrieving a skier as some propellers may continue to spin even in neutral. Keep a proper lookout at all times, especially when near swimmers, snorkelers, divers or any other activity. Stay out of designated swimming areas. Wear a safety lanyard when boating alone. 22.01.2022 You can play a role in keeping our fish stocks sustainable by reporting illegal or suspicious fishing activities to FishWatch on 1800 815 507, 24 hours a day, s...even days a week. FishWatch captures reports from a network of thousands of recreational fishers across the State. This information is then used to investigate incidents and prosecute as needed. It is best to report any suspicious fishing activity as soon as possible so that Fisheries Officers can attend and investigate the incident if they are available. Any information you provide could be valuable, however we recommend you do not approach anyone for your own safety. Leaving your contact details when you call FishWatch is important as Fisheries Officers may have further questions. All reports made are treated in the strictest of confidence. 10.01.2022 Do you know how to tell the difference between male and female blue swimmer crabs? The easiest way to check if a blue swimmer crab is male or female is to turn ...it upside down and look at the V-shaped abdominal flap on its underside. A males flap is narrow and angular, while a females flap is broad and rounded. In Geographe Bay, you can only have a maximum of 5 female blue swimmer crabs as part of your 10 crab daily bag limit from 1 December. If youre unsure of the rules, check out our info sheet on fishing for blue swimmer crabs in the west coast region: https://bit.ly/2NhyQVq

09.01.2022 A deep low-pressure system is travelling towards WA, bringing heavy rain and strong winds for nearly the whole of the west coast this Sunday! This is a rare... event for this time of year and it's due to the remnants of a tropical low tracking towards WA and interacting with a cold front, causing the low to deepen. The last time an event like this occurred was June 2012, which led to over 600 calls for assistance and over 170,000 homes losing power. Bureau of Meteorology has produced an animation to show the predicted track for the low-pressure system, which will determine areas predicted to cop the worst of the weather. Most storm damage is preventable, so it's important you start getting ready over the coming days by: - Tying down loose items (like those pesky trampolines) - Check your roof for any damaged tiles and clear your gutters - Pack away outdoor furniture and items that could be moved by winds - Trimming any branches near your house Keep up to date as the situation changes Find the latest alerts and warnings at https://bit.ly/2fU94Yo Keep an eye on the weather at https://bit.ly/2WRuj0x Find your local ABC Radio Station: https://ab.co/2XnaMnU When you need SES assistance after severe weather, call 132 500

Please do a driveby, inspect your vessel and see if it safe and secure before the next cold front passes later this evening. We currently have 7 reported vessels aground from Lancelin to Esperance. Dont let yours be number eight. See more
