23.01.2022 Term 2 starts tomorrow and instead of heading into KL HQ, well be logging onto our computers. Its definitely a weird feeling for us as a team, so we can imagine there are lots of mixed feelings for you and your kids too. Were looking forward to seeing you all over the next couple of weeks to come up with a plan that works for you this term. Were aiming to meet, or hopefully exceed, expectations under these new circumstances, and we know this cant happen without tea...mwork and great communication. PLEASE tell your OT what you loved and what you think could be done better! We want to know! As a team, we are connecting daily via Zoom so we can continue to share the best ideas and evidence based ways of supporting our families. Were feeling optimistic as we kick off this term, and are grateful to all our families who continue to trust us to support them. Tell your kids well see them soon! Weve got some cool TeleHealth stuff up our sleeves

22.01.2022 Hi families! Given the most recent announcement we will be continuing to provide occupational therapy services exclusively via Zoom for now. We will re-evaluate in 6 weeks time and update you all with any changes to our service. In the meantime, my incredible team is ready to listen to whats important to you and work with you to navigate any continuing or new challenges. Its OK to have goals that may be very different at the moment! Remote therapy can be delivered in a num...ber of different ways and we will continue to be as flexible and creative as we can while supporting you and your child. Please call or email our Family Liaison team and they will do their best to answer your questions, or book in time with an OT should you require it. If you dont get through, leave a message so they can get in touch quickly. Thanks to everyone for working with us during this time. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to work alongside the families that we do. If anyone has any feedback or requests for new TeleHealth services (e.g. group programs or information sessions/webinars), feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. See you soon! Jackie

21.01.2022 Hi Kid Link fam, From March 30th, Kid Link will be moving completely to TeleHealth. Weve been so encouraged by the feedback this week, and look forward to providing occupational therapy to you all within your own homes via Zoom. While we have been following all government advice regarding social distancing and hygiene, we think its safest for our families and staff if we further reduce contact, and therefore the subsequent risk, as much as possible. All families with a face... to face session booked for next week, have already been contacted to change their session. The team will also be working from home where possible, with all of our daily catch ups and meetings changed to online. The office is still open to the OTs who will go in periodically to gather resources and to print/post out things if needed. Admin will continue as normal with Jess and Chels doing everything remotely. COVID-19 has created so much change and uncertainty for everyone but we are still going to be here for all of our families, offering advice and strategies, and continuing to support your child to achieve their goals. I personally conducted my first 2 TeleHealth sessions this week and was pleasantly surprised to see how easily the sessions flowed. I got to meet family pets, utilise resources that people already had in the home, watch video clips together, complete worksheets, and type into joint documents. Its certainly different, and Im sure it has its cons like all therapy, but Im so excited that a form of therapy I never really considered before could be so beneficial. Im extremely lucky to have the best group of OTs and admin staff to work with, who have fully embraced being out of their comfort zones. We continue to work together, share session plan ideas, celebrate wins, and brainstorm strategies, just like we do when were at KL HQ. As a team, we thank-you for joining us on this crazy journey and we cant wait to hear more positive stories come out of something we never thought wed be doing right now. Please stay safe and let us know if you have any questions! Warm regards, Jackie
20.01.2022 TeleHealth is now fully operational at Kid Link OT, with the team doing everything remotely from Monday. Involving families in all aspects of therapy is not new to us, but TeleHealth definitely takes our family centred practice up a notch. Were excited! #kidlinkot #telehealth #teletherapy #familycentred #therapyathome #zoom #occupationaltherapy
20.01.2022 Jackie and Caitlyn will present Wednesday’s session on social cognition. Social attention and perspective taking can be some of the most important influencing factors to consider when a child is having a tough time regulating their behaviours. The webinar will explore practical child centered strategies that promote success, understanding, and connection within the classroom. www.kidlinkot.eventbrite.com.au
18.01.2022 As promised, Kid Link Occupational Therapy will continue to respond to any new information and communicate clearly with our families regarding any changes. As of tomorrow, in addition to the increased hygiene and social distancing procedures already in place, we will be making the following additional changes: Cancelling all school and community visits until further notice. If your child is seen at school, you will be contacted by your OT to try and reschedule where possib...le. We have alternative options for you. Only allowing one parent/carer to attend therapy sessions with their child. Unfortunately, siblings and additional parents/carers will not be able to attend. This allows us to maintain social distancing practices. Removing access to all of our toys, games and resources which are not required in your session. This way we can easily monitor every item that is touched. Any items and surfaces are then thoroughly cleaned with medical grade antibacterial solution after EVERY session. Any resources that cannot be cleaned easily will not be used for now. We have set up our team to deliver Telehealth Sessions via Zoom. Many families have already moved across to this method of therapy delivery and the feedback has been extremely positive. This service is active now so if you would like to change your appointment to Telehealth call 9879 7019 or email your OT. We have already started booking families into our new staggered appointment schedule. The intention of this staggered schedule is to minimise the time families spend together in the waiting room. It also allows therapists to work from home where possible. You will be contacted during the school holidays to organise your new appointment time. We are aiming to minimise any significant appointment changes. Adding non face to face blocks between sessions so therapists can still create resources, send activities and provide fun and useful homework, even when providing Telehealth sessions. This part of our service will now be done following your session, rather than during the session as we do with our current model. Direct billing for sessions remotely utilising IntegraPay. We have been using this system successfully for our offsite families for some time now. We will be moving families across to this system to further reduce any unnecessary contact and streamline processes for our administration team. Families can choose to use a bank account or credit card to make payment. This short and easy to use form will be e-mailed to each of you. We will continue to be as proactive and flexible as possible during this time of uncertainty and we look forward to working with you over the coming months.

17.01.2022 We understand the COVID-19 virus has created a lot of uncertainty around what to expect over the coming months. The understandable restrictions and precautions being implemented are to reduce/slow the spread as practically as possible, to ensure our healthcare system can meet the needs of those more vulnerable. Taking all sensible precautions, and being mindful of the whole community, is what should be at the forefront of our minds. Panic and hysteria that is not based on fac...Continue reading

06.01.2022 This is my most widely shared post. And rightly so, its an important one. These are prewriting patterns, with the average (not prescribed) age at which child...ren are developmentally ready to achieve these patterns listed below them in years and months. Being able to process visual information and produce a movement in response (e.g. copying these prewriting patterns or letter formations), is known as visual motor integration. Note that an X is not typically achieved until 4 years 11 months, and a triangle at 5 years 3 months. If a child cant form these basic shapes...then they probably wont be able to form letters. It is quite concerning then that there are 3 year 7 month olds starting formal schooling, where theyre expected to write. Not only are their visual motor integration skills not developed enough, their hands are also physically under-developed. In addition, recognising letters, understanding phonics and beginning to read are all needed in order for a child to write meaningfully, skills which children starting kindy typically dont have. We also know that when a child learns something that doesnt hold meaning, its unlikely to stick. So if you have a 3-4 year old who spontaneously asks or attempts to write letters, thats great; otherwise, there is no need to initiate or worry about this. Unfortunately there is a misconception, particularly with the way that the current curriculum stands, that earlier is better. Earlier is not always better.
