18.01.2022 Building approvals are a crucial economic marker. They show how many projects are getting off the ground - which indicates how many people can afford to build a...nd how many jobs are being created in the construction industry. So the ABS statistics for WA's building approvals for November is incredible news. Not only is WA's construction industry leading the nation, but the rate of WA approvals in November was more than double that of November 2019. Through our WA Recovery and Jobs Plan, we've worked hard to help achieve this result - and it's great to see that those initiatives are paying off for WA workers.

16.01.2022 A MOVING STORY In 1906 there was a saying in Western Australia that Three moves are as a bad as a house fire. Today the idea of moving house still evokes unpl...easant visions of chaos and discomfort in some. While others find exhilaration in the search for new pastures and the opportunity to re-arrange their goods and chattels" in a new light. Interestingly 'moving house hints' seem not to have changed much over the last 100 years. It is still advised that a good firm of furniture removers be employed "to avoid disaster." That labels be gummed on the doors of the various rooms and duplicate labels stuck to each bit of heavy furniture. Thereby obviating the annoying risk of it being deposited in the wrong room. That rubbish be sorted out beforehand and careful thought be given to odds and ends before discarding them. An old saucepan for example could be turned into a most artistic flower-pot holder. A leaky boiler an admirable receptacle wherein to store vegetables and fruit. A shabby dust-pan a cinder sifter. Then to "ward off fatigue", a hamper should be prepared for a timely snack. As well as a get-at-able kettle packed, so that when the kitchen fire is lit at the new place, a cup of tea can be brewed - a great solace to maids and mistresses alike. While rare today, once upon a time whole buildings were re-located, not just their contents. This was because it was cheaper to do this than build a new structure at the new site. In the nineteenth century and early 1900s, public buildings and private houses were often moved from goldfield to goldfield in Western Australia, using bullock teams, horses, camels and even manpower. Take a moment to enjoy these wonderful images of ‘moving day’ from the State Library of WA’s collection and share your experiences of moving house. 14.01.2022 Land Buyer Settlements// When buying real estate, you’re buying the property and the land on which it stands. If you’re buying just land, the Title Exchange (or settlement) occurs when you settle the block of land only, not when building of the home is completed. Kidman Conveyancing are experienced in Land Settlements. We will guide you through the process to make sure there are no surprises along the way. http://bit.ly/37IYzgR

02.01.2022 It's a story many West Aussie homeowners could relate to: Wanting to undertake a small project to improve your house, like just putting up a deck or a shade sai...l, but being forced into a time consuming process to get planning approval before going ahead. It's frustrating, and for some of those minor projects it just isn't a common sense approach. Yesterday, we announced the most significant overhaul of WA's planning system - ever. Among a range of other sensible changes for businesses and communities, we're slashing red tape to let homeowners get on with small projects to improve their properties. Specifically, we're putting in a state-wide framework of exemptions from planning approvals for minor works including minor extensions, patios, carports, shade sails and pergolas. Where required, building approvals will still apply, but those projects will no longer need to go through the planning approvals process with local governments. Additionally, the reforms include major changes to streamline the process for the approval of new homes, as well as delivering improved and consistent process for communities to have their say on planning issues. The changes also include changes to help small businesses and to speed up the process for getting major job-creating projects off the ground. Reforms to the planning system might sound a bit dry, but these are important and common-sense changes that will have a big impact for countless Western Australians. You can find out more about our planning reforms here: https://www.dplh.wa.gov.au//plan/covid-19-planning-reforms
