25.01.2022 KIDS PLUS NOVA We had a brilliant session with Nova yesterday, and Richard from @Urgoform. He delivered her new hippocampe beach wheelchair! She was off the the beach with Dad and little brother. We also trialled the new kids size standing power wheelchair. This is the first of its kind in Australia! The independence to change from sitting to standing and move in standing will be awesome for Nova!

Join us to learn how best to support your brother or sister with their communication while also meeting other siblings. You will get to have fun and meet other young people who are siblings of those with complex communication needs.... Researchers have found that siblings heavily influence each other and the type of person they eventually grow into. And in the lives of children with special needs, siblings have an especially important role to play. Our workshop will be run on Thursday 25 March 2021 - 4-5:30pm. Want to know more? 16.01.2022 The Hanen Program was developed in 1975 by Canadian speech-language pathologist Ayala Hanen Manolson and recognises that parents are the most important people in their children’s lives. The Hanen approach has lead the way in changing early language intervention by putting parents first in order to help their children best. Kids Plus’ Speech Pathologists Rachel Harkin and Victoria Roache undertook training in the Hanen Program in 2019, and introduced the It Takes Two to Talk program for the first group of parents during 2020.

06.01.2022 BUILDING AN INCLUSIVE SOCIETY Social isolation is an all too familiar experience for people with a disability. It is a debilitating condition caused by a society that has simply not done enough in the pursuit of inclusion. In the face of Covid-19, we have all experienced a taste of social isolation, albeit nominally and temporarily. In this time, we have all been reminded of the importance of social connectivity.

06.01.2022 YOUTH STRATEGY There is still time to contribute! Victoria is developing a new Youth Strategy. This is an important new youth strategy which will improve how government works with young people.... Get Involved as a Young Person From October to December 2020, you can have your say on what matters to you, in online youth and community forums that will be youth-led. Some forums will be specific to local areas and others will be focused on specific groups of young people. You can choose to attend the forum that is most relevant to you.
