24.01.2022 WOW! There is no doubt that child car restraints save lives. A properly fitted child car seat that is also correctly 'worn' by the baby or child can mean the difference between minor injury or a fatality. If you are not sure your child's car seat is fitted or being worn correctly please call us on 3854 1829 or book online for a free fitting thanks to our partner in road safety Transurban. We don't just fit your car seat but we show you how to use it, adjust it and ensure your precious cargo is sitting safely in the seat. Our sites are South Brisbane, Logan and Windsor. https://www.kidsafeqld.com.au/

21.01.2022 Always buckle up harnesses in high chairs, prams and child car seats. For a high chair a 5 point harness - over shoulders, hips and with a crotch strap - is the best. Thanks for the reminder Kidsafe Vic

If you think your kids have eaten anything that is not safe call the 24/7 Poisons Info hotline on 13 11 26.
21.01.2022 When was the last time your playground was inspected? It is recommended playgrounds are inspected annually to ensure they are compliant to the Australian Playground Standard Guidelines, to help keep the play space a safe area for the children to explore and play. 20.01.2022 Please participate in an online survey to explore parents' willingness to use rideshare vehicles to transport their children. The researcher is interested in whether parents use their own child car restraints or booster seats when travelling in these vehicles. It will take about 25 minutes and if you complete the survey you can enter a draw to win one of five $100 gift vouchers. https://monash.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bK4n9DS0Pa4VvH7

18.01.2022 Don't leave your campfire to burn out overnight - hot coals are a common cause of nasty burns the morning with the average age of the campfire victim just 2.5 years! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37XFcEUYVS8
17.01.2022 Check your gate and fence before the kids do!
17.01.2022 These high-powered small magnets are banned in Australia but since the ban in the USA was reversed, the number of magnet related incidents requiring medical attention has skyrocketed! If these magnets are swallowed they pull towards each other in the intestine and can tear holes needing surgery to remove the intestines and can also cause death! They used to be sold in Australia so check your cupboards and desks and keep away from all children. Older kids have also swallowed them after using them to look like tongue and lip piercings. https://gizmodo.com/kids-just-cant-stop-eating-these-magnet

11.01.2022 Urgent recall. Please share. Clipsal have notified regulators of a recall affecting a range of 10mA socket outlets and service panel RCDs. The recalled safety switches are a type used in patient care areas in hospitals, health and aged care services and schools. As a result of the defect in this product, the safety switch may not operate in the event of an electrical fault, and so may not prevent electric shocks, and subsequent injury or death, from occurring.
11.01.2022 Very proud to be the Qld division of such an amazing organisation. Kidsafe Qld was a finalist in the International Safety Awards for our Driveway Runover Prevention campaign featuring the Kidsafe Safety Ninja and Crash. Kidsafe SA were also finalists for its Baby Sling campaign.

07.01.2022 Great reminder to teach your children how to call 000 in an emergency.
07.01.2022 These magnets are lethal - globally.
07.01.2022 The Australian Story 'Sister's in Arms' was heartbreaking and tragic, but three mothers have joined together to bring awareness to the risks of button batteries around young children in Australia. If you can help raise awareness of the dangers of button batteries in your workplace or school, please download our poster or flyer and share our campaign page: https://kidsafeqld.com.au/button-batteries
07.01.2022 Did you purchase these online! Recalled because the button battery is not secure. https://www.productsafety.gov.au//kaisercraft-pty-ltd-kais
06.01.2022 A wonderful organisation Baby Give Back is dedicated to collecting (and safety checking) new and pre-loved essential baby items for families who are referred via social service agencies. Sadly, for some new parents the reality is they need to choose between nappies or food for their child as they simply can't afford both. Baby Give Back is looking for donations of pre-loved or new child car restraints to pass on to these families and need our help. If you are considering dona...ting your pre-loved car seat here are some essential safety tips: * the seat must be less than 10 years from date of manufacture * the seat must have its instruction manual and stickers and all its accessories * it must meet the Australian Standard 1754 (and have a sticker that certifies this) * it must be in good working order with no tears, nicks or waviness in the harness or tether strap, no broken bits or mould, the adjuster works correctly and * the car seat must not have been in the car during a moderate to severe crash. https://www.babygiveback.org/

06.01.2022 Christmas wishes can come true. Kidsafe is very excited that the Morrison Government has introduced a mandatory button battery safety standard to protect Australian children. Kidsafe attended the announcement of the Standard by The Hon Michael Sukkar MP in Melbourne last Monday. This Standard is a world-first! Kidsafe has conducted national button battery awareness campaigns for several years, but with one Australian child sustaining a serious button battery injury every month (and some are lifelong injuries), regulation was urgently needed. Thanks to the ACCC and other key stakeholders for bringing this to fruition. Read more https://www.productsafety.gov.au//safe/mandatory-standards
05.01.2022 Close call for this driver and nearly 9 yo passenger earlier this week ! Thankfully both are safe and well but it could of been a lot worse if the child had not been using a Booster seat. Child car restraints save lives and serious injuries to children.
05.01.2022 Did you buy these bunks online? You need to read this...
05.01.2022 Keep safe around the pool this summer!
05.01.2022 Children can also be a big distraction for drivers. A little preparation also goes a long way when it comes to keeping kids content while you’re on the road and your eyes on the road. Make sure your kids have eaten and ensure they go to the bathroom before you get in the car. Give them something to do for the car trip and plan for regular breaks. Thanks for the reminder Transurban #safeinthecar #eyesontheroad
05.01.2022 On a typical Australian summer day, the temperature inside a parked car can be as much as 30 to 40 higher than the outside temperature. 75% of the temperature rise occurs within 5 minutes of closing the car and leaving it. 90% of the temperature rise occurs within 15 minutes. There is no excuse for leaving a child alone in a car! #QRSWStreetSmarts #RoadSafetyF1rst
04.01.2022 Great information. Please share.
04.01.2022 Some truly amazing playgrounds. Congratulations to all.
03.01.2022 Check out the Fair Trading website for the list of toys removed from sale and BUYER BEWARE shoppers!
02.01.2022 In Australia we have a permanent ban on certain small high-powered magnets because, not only are they a choking hazard, if a couple or more are swallowed they are drawn together through the soft tissue of the intestine causing perforations and can be fatal! https://www.productsafety.gov.au//kogan-australia-pty-ltd-
02.01.2022 Thanks Transurban our partner in ensuring kids travel safely.
02.01.2022 Over a 5 year period in Qld (just before COVID), two-thirds of children aged 0-7yrs who died in a car crash were unrestrained at the time of the crash. Children who were involved in a crash but who were wearing a restraint only sustained only minor injuries and less than 0.5% died. Clearly, car restraints save lives. Kidsafe has partnered with Transurban to fit child car restraints for FREE to ensure our most precious cargo is safe on the road. Book now for Logan, South Brisbane and Windsor #WeCanAllBeHeroes #QRSWStreetSmarts #RoadSafetyF1rst
01.01.2022 Smoking out your neighbours when you are enjoying an outdoor fire is not nice. Here is another safety tip from QFES on outdoor fires. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9tZw_Lfx3I
