25.01.2022 A 9 year old Geelong girl survived being bitten by a tiger snake after learning what to do from someone you may not expect - the clumsy, accident prone, ‘survival and wildlife expert’ Russell Coight. Whether your family is planning an all Aussie adventure now that restrictions have eased or a walk closer to home, keep a watchful eye for snakes. Avoid walking off the path into long grass, and be prepared with knowledge of some basic snake bite first aid just in case.

25.01.2022 We recently posted about the dangerous temperatures that the inside of a parked car can reach, but did you know that ‘hot prams’ are a danger too? Covering your pram to shield your little one from the sun might seem like the right thing to do, however even using material as light as muslin can reduce air circulation and cause the temperature to rise dramatically. This interview we did with TODAY earlier this year, shows how quickly things can change: https://9now.nine.com.au//coveri/ck5ye4zjy004u0hpgp3dc7ccj

24.01.2022 Today is National Low Speed Vehicle Run Over Prevention Day, born out of tragedy and launched in honour of a precious little girl who sadly lost her life. 10 years ago today, Peter and Emma Cockburn devastatingly lost their 15 month old daughter Georgina in a low speed vehicle runover in their driveway. They established the Georgina Josephine Foundation to highlight the frequency of Low Speed Vehicle Runovers; their logo of yellow ducks and stars honours their daughter who lo...ved to sing ‘Five Little Ducks’ and ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’. We want people to be inspired to change, not to think we are brave. We can’t improve the situation for us, but we can try to make it better for other people, said Peter. On this 10th anniversary, we send our sincere love to the Cockburn family. For more information, please head to www.gjfoundation.com.au/what-we-do/

23.01.2022 There have been more drowning fatalities in Victoria in the last 6 months than the whole of 2019. With hot weather predicted this weekend, please be aware of what bodies of water are around you. It only takes a few centimetres of water for a toddler to drown and can - and has - occurred in ponds and pet bowls. To help keep your family safe in and around water, please follow these tips from Life Saving Victoria

23.01.2022 Today is a day for remembrance. A day to remember and reflect on the sacrifices those serving our country have made - and are making today. Lest we forget.

22.01.2022 We were proud to join Martin Foley MP and Ambulance Victoria this morning for the launch of the summer heat health campaigns. With Victoria finally putting on some good weather this weekend, it's the perfect time for a reminder about the dangers of leaving children unattended in cars. The majority of the temperature rise inside a parked car occurs within the first 5 minutes. Children are particularly at risk as their body temperature rises 3-5 times faster than an adult'...s . While juggling kids and errands on your own can be a challenge, even if you only need to ‘quickly’ pop into the shops, don’t take the risk of leaving your child unattended in the car.

21.01.2022 Did your little one receive an arts n’ crafts or science experiment kit this holiday season? Or maybe you are getting creative with some DIY experiments to keep the kids entertained. Supervising your kids while they’re getting creative is a great way to help keep them safe it also means you don’t miss out on all the fun! ... For more info on poisons, please head to: https://www.kidsafevic.com.au/home-safety/poisoning/

20.01.2022 Sometimes kids really surprise you in the most beautiful, amazing, or even frustrating ways as seen in this video clip from Safe Kids Worldwide. Did you know that the most common cause of poisoning in children under the age of 5 is from ingesting medication? Incidents typically happen when over the counter or prescription medicines are left within reach. To help avoid any nasty surprises, keep potentially poisonous substances - including medications - locked up, out of t...he sight and reach of children. For more advice on poisoning, please visit our website: https://www.kidsafevic.com.au/home-safety/poisoning/

19.01.2022 Kids love slinkys, but this playtime nearly ended in tragedy for little Abigail when she thought it may look nice as a necklace. As Abigail turned blue, someone heard her Mum’s screams for help and assisted, thankfully saving her from serious injury. Got some of these in your toy box from a Christmas stocking or party bag? Talk to your children about the dangers of putting toys like this around their neck and always check the age recommendations.... Read this mum's warning here: https://mouthsofmums.com.au/mums-warning-after-daughter-is/

17.01.2022 What wishes and dreams do you have for your child? To feel safe, loved, and happy? Or perhaps something you hope they will have, be, or experience in the future? 16.01.2022 Today is the last day of Nature Play Week - 12 days of celebrating getting out, getting dirty, and getting closer to nature. What better way to close out this week than a camp out in your backyard or even at a real campsite! If you’re planning on having a campfire, make sure to set it up safely, supervise children around a lit fire, and put it out with water (never soil as it can remain hot underneath).... If you’re at a campsite, check beforehand if campfires are allowed.

15.01.2022 You know you’re a parent when you’ve lost count of the number of times you’re asked but why? With each question, it can be harder and harder to answer and stay calm. When your kids are old enough to start asking why, it’s a great time to have a discussion and start teaching them about how child car restraints, booster seats and seatbelts help to keep us safe when in the car.... Have you been asked by your child yet why they need to wear their harness, or why they need a booster seat? How did you explain this? For more info about travelling safely in a child car restraint, please visit: https://www.kidsafevic.com.au/road-safety/

15.01.2022 Ha ha isn’t this the truth! Having kids might mean saying goodbye to lovely long continuous sleeps, but enjoy every waking moment with them because they grow up in the blink of an eye! 12.01.2022 It’s Autumn and in Victoria that can mean sunshine one day and plummeting temperatures the next. The rule of no heating on until after Anzac Day (yes.. apparently a lot of people have this rule!?) sometimes has to be forgoed when a cold snap comes out of nowhere. On average, there are around 3,000 house fires in Victoria each year - most of which could be prevented by taking simple precautions. If you’ve had your heater in storage since the end of winter last year or are co...nsidering ramping up the fireplace this week, the CFA (Country Fire Authority) chief officer has some great tips in this news article to help ensure everyone keeps safe. https://www.miragenews.com/cold-snap-brings-heating-fire-w/

11.01.2022 Toys play an important role in helping kids to learn and develop. If your child is old enough to go to school, by now you’ve probably heard about the latest sensory gadget POP-ITS! They are much like popping bubble wrap, only with a never ending supply! Are there any toys from your childhood that you... would like to see brought back? Or maybe there are some toys your kids have that you WISH had been recalled due to ‘parental sanity endangerment’?
