16.01.2022 An awesome question brought up in a recent class; why do we sit on our knees? This sitting position is called Seiza. And it has so many benefits!... Physical- Although it may be uncomfortable at first Seiza strengthens the core and lower back muscles, and also aids in our knee and ankle flexibility. Respect- Seiza demonstrates respect for others in the Dojo and ourselves through teaching self discipline. Historical- Ancient Samurais sat in Seiza not only as a ritual for respect but also so they were ready to leap up instantaneously.
