Yesterday was World Grateful day, and so instead of posting on Kids Light Up, I spent the day reflecting and I came up with 3 things for which I am grateful - right now. It's so interesting that things I once took for granted are now the highlights. ... Friendships - Meeting with friends face to face Time - I've had the time to finish some UFO's and the garden has never looked so good! Home - I love my house and garden, and I'm grateful that I get to spend lockdown time here. What are your gratitude points?

18.01.2022 Children's lives have changed so much this year the stress and trauma has pushed them outside their window of tolerance. When children are within their window of tolerance, they can think, love, learn, empathise, be playful, explore, reflect and use words to describe their feelings. They are at their personal best. Today I'd like to share with you a parent's response after reading Teaching Tips and Activities - Our FREE downloadable - which include explanations about the concepts in each book AND some activities you can do with your children either at home or in the classroom. ... Today we focus on When I'm shining with SELF-CONTROL https://www.kidslightup.com.au//Teaching-tips-and-activiti This is what Mum and teacher Rebekah said.... "Shining with self-control has been so beautifully timed for our family. This has been a fruit of the spirit that we have been focusing on for a while. It is so valuable and unique to have a book that explains self-control in a way that children can easily understand. We have had great discussions as a family stemming from the pages of the book about real-life examples and even found ourselves using the language of turning on our ‘self-control lights’. As a teacher, I could see this book being a great asset to the classroom, in teaching skills that realistically, we could all work on, even as adults. We have thoroughly enjoyed the activities that follow on from the book. The strategies learnt from this, is what really solidifies the learning from the book with fun games to practise self-control and to apply these skills in real life. I am so grateful for the timing of these books at a stage in life where my kids are forming their own values." As a way to acknowledge anti-bullying day today, we have decided to focus on KINDNESS We read one of the Shining with Light books (9 book series) 'When I'm shining with KINDNESS' The children easily saw from the look on the bears faces what they were feeling and even identified what zone they were in! Here are some of the children's responses when we brainstormed about KINDNESS:... I can visit people I hug when they are feeling sad We can share toys Help a friend not make bad choices. If someone needs something and their leg doesn’t work you can get it for them. Helping someone when they’re feeling hurt, help them feel better. I LOVE it when children come up with their own unique ideas after reading a prompt to think like this story! 01.01.2022 Today is Dyslexia Awareness Day 2020. A mum of a 7yo boy with dyslexia shared with me: "My son couldn't wait to read your books. He loved them ... so much he went to bed hugging them." The Shining with Light book series have been typeset in OpenDyslexic font. OpenDyslexic is a new open source font created to increase readability for readers with dyslexia. The typeface includes regular, bold, italic, and bold-italic styles. It is being updated continually and improved based on input from dyslexic users.
