20.01.2022 One of my favourite minibeasts; the Monteith Leaf Insect Camouflage: 10/10 Beauty: 10/10 Fierceness: 1/10 ... The Monteith Leaf Insect is from QLD and eats lily pily leaves, they also look like a lily pily leaf! We are running minibeast incursions here, there and everywhere at the moment... maybe you’ll get to meet our leaf insect soon! I’ll pop a couple of videos of her in the comments below

19.01.2022 The Feather Horned Beetle They are pretty rare so if you’ve seen one well done This one is a male, only males have these fancy feather antennae. It’s such a super pretty beetle

18.01.2022 Are you looking for something fun and educational to do with your kids these school holidays? Get them away from their screens and learning about all the creepy... crawlies that live in the Ellen Brook! Chittering Landcare Centre will be running Wetland Wonders: Aquatic Marcoinvertebrates on Thursday the 8th of October at 10am. Participants will get the chance to hunt and sort their own macroinvertebrates, learn how to use a microscope, and create a macroinvertebrte from their own imagination. A sausage sizzle lunch will be provided and this event is completely FREE! This activity would be perfect for any primary school aged children. Places are strictly limited, to book please contact us at [email protected]

17.01.2022 Today we weeded the bushland of pink gladioli and orange cape tulips. They are no good in our bushland but they are too pretty for the bin so we smashed them with hammers Ok we lightly pounded them with hammers to decorate our reusable bags. No waste here, helping the bushland, exploring nature and enjoying some nature crafting = perfect

14.01.2022 An amazing day of adventuring today. Frogs, bugs. lizards and a whole lot of PLAY!! #naturedetectives #perthschoolholidays #natureplay

12.01.2022 This is a ladybird larvae. Did you know ladybirds are born looking completely different? They have four life stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult beetle. After they pupate they come out looking like the ladybirds you know and love Ladybirds love to eat aphids, mites and scale insects that destroy a lot of common garden plants like roses, so they are great to have in your backyard.

09.01.2022 Does your workplace bin have this kind of stuff in it? Cuz we want it! We are always aiming to encourage our followers to advocate for reuse in their everyday l...ives. Taking the time to conduct a bin audit can help us realise there are many useful materials being overlooked. Should you find anything you think we might be interested in, send us a photo! #BinAuditWednesday?

09.01.2022 We are on a little break here at Kids Nature Club but we’ve been making the most of it. With our holiday coming to an end I thought I'd share some of the highlights for us. Also a general note, WA’s holiday spots are busy right now so book everything in advance, everything! MONKEY MIA The RAC Resort Monkey Mia is a winner for kids. The kids can swim in the pools/ocean, watch for pelicans and dolphins, hire some buggies and drive themself around the resort, look for lizards ...in the red dirt (ok maybe that’s just me ) and look for pipi’s at low tide. Bring some food and drink with you. The chances of you feeding a dolphin are low so manage those expectations. For those with older kids 8yrs+ book the cultural tour with Capes from Wula Gura Nyinda Eco Cultural Adventures If you have younger kids the beachside playground in Denham is pretty awesome. CORAL BAY Our half day tour with Ningaloo Marine Interactions was a definite highlight of the trip. We were lucky to have awesome weather for our tour which included swimming with turtles, manta rays, reef sharks and all the fishies if the ningaloo reef I wasn’t particularly keen on doing the quad bike tour but 5min into it I was a convert! We went with Coastal Adventure Tours, it was loads of fun, the kids loved it and I appreciated the conservation info from our guide Also the fish tacos and curry from Bills Bar were KALBARRI It’s just a quick stop this time but Kalbarri is one of our favourite places to holiday! Kalbarri Sky Walk is open and it’s spectacular. Go early unless you enjoy being driven insane by flies. Sometimes you just get lucky and this morning we happened to catch WA Bird of Prey Centre down by foreshore with their impressive birds. It was great to see the wedgetail eagle up close, especially since we’ve seen so many flying overhead as we drive along the highway. They’ll be here in Kalbarri for 5 more days With our break coming to an end we’ll be back in the office on Monday getting ready for the school holidays See more
