05.01.2022 Spring is well and truly here in Queensland. From here through to Summer is the peak mating period for butterflies. Especially once we get some rain which helps... the butterflies host plants flourish to provide food for caterpillars. The female butterfly will lay about 200 eggs in her lifetime. This will usually be laid on a leaf or twig. Each species of butterfly have specific host plants to suit that specific butterfly and that is where they will lay so their babies will have plenty of yummy food to eat when they hatch from the egg. Each egg is an amazing sculptural structure and they come in all different shapes, sizes and colours. See more
