24.01.2022 Last Tuesday we celebrated Diwali (the Indian festival of lights and colour) the children enjoyed dressing up, learning new dances, Harkamal decorated the centre in beautiful decorations and taught the children in the Silver Banksia room how to make Coconut Ladoo. Harry made Kulche Chole (chickpea curry) for lunch (staff members enjoyed the spicier and also Pakode - vegetarian fritters)

22.01.2022 We have some fun themes following on from book week! Our Blue Gum room have really enjoyed ‘That’s not my elephant’ by Fiona Watt. Our babies had a great time creating gorgeous elephant paintings to decorate their room. Golden Wattle children have lead an under the sea theme for the room after so much interest in baby shark. They’ve enjoyed looking at sea creatures skeletons, shells, have started painting and will soon have a wall with paintings displayed. Hedge Wattle chil...dren have extended on ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle, with lots of activities and craft, and also a table set up in their room too. We love it when our children are confident and secure enough to express their interests, and we can use this to create an environment full of educational activities based on what they are already interested in! #earlychildhoodeducation #childrensbooks #laravictoria See more

22.01.2022 Welcome back to the Hedge Wattle Room, we hope you had a rest Easter break. The children were extremely excited to take part in many eager experiences before the Easter Bunny arrived, but the most exciting thing was taking part in the Easter Egg Hunt. The children also took part in the Holidays celebrating using brightly coloured paints that were placed on a black canvas with glitter where the children were given the chance to smear the colours around and create a gorgeous cr...eation. The children have also engaged within many physical and balancing outdoor activities throughout the implementation of the obstacle courses and various equipment. We have been exploring our garden and some of the children have discovered that when strawberries are ‘red’, we can eat them. The children have also started enjoying our School Holiday Programs by making music mayhem and joining in on our PJ Day, we look forward to exploring the rest of the fortnight’s experiences. We invite you all if you have anything you would like to share or any exciting things that may be happening at home feel free to speak with any of our friendly educators - until next time take care from all within the Hedge Wattle Room. 19.01.2022 School readiness IS NOT about... - Lining up in a straight line. - Counting to 100 - Knowing the alphabet - Being able time sit on the mat for long periods of time.... School readiness during a pandemic. This is a fantastic article that highlights the priorities we should be focusing on for our children getting ready for school next year. We see a lot of parents anxious about their child possibly not being ready for school in 2021 because they’ve missed so much kinder this year. Instead, let’s focus on the 6 ‘C’s; Confidence, Creativity, Curiosity, Cooperation, Commitment, & Communication and the 3 ‘I’s; Improvisation, Investigation, Imagination. https://eur06.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/

18.01.2022 Thank you to our gorgeous gardening helpers Edith & Sebby for helping Harry collect veggies for our lunch! #sustainabilityeducation #gardening #earlychildhoodeducation #laravictoria

17.01.2022 "Science Day in Kinder" What a fun day for Science Day! Today we learnt about volcanos, the weather and did an experiment too! We read a book at Group Time about the 4 seasons and what the weather is like in each one. It was interesting to hear each child’s favourite season and why ? Lots of children asked to colour in so we printed an assortment of different science subject sheets such as volcanos, recycling symbols, jungles and Spring and Winter objects (flowers, snowflakes... etc). We watched a short National Geographic clip about volcanoes on the big screen and also an old Hawaiin island song about volcanos falling in love. The children loved watching the explosions and learning about the gases and magma inside the volcanos. Then we did our experiment!! Lots of bi-carb Soda, vinegar and red food dye was used to create our eruptions. We smelt the gases and heard the fizzing noise of the soda reacting with the vinegar. So much excitement as the eruption poured over the sides of the volcano. Learning story written by Carla. Learning outcomes; 2.1.4 Broaden their understanding of the world in which they live.4.1 Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity.4.1.2 Are curious and enthusiastic participants in their learning.4.4 Children resource their own learning through connecting with people, place, technologies and natural and processed materials.4.4.6 Experiment with different technologies

15.01.2022 Messy Play. The children were able to explore some different textures they were presented with. We incorporated in their play some goop made with cornflower, food dye and water. Another tray was water, bubbles and food dye and in the sand pit we filled the buckets with water. The children explored with their senses to discover the different textures. EYLF OUTCOME 4- Children are confident and involved Learners

13.01.2022 Bush Kinder was a great way to end the term for the Silver Banksia children today. The Easter Bunny had left some foot prints, a letter and some named eggs for the children to find. Have a great long weekend!

11.01.2022 These few weeks the Golden Wattle children have been excitedly doing art and craft activities preparing for Easter. We have been decorating Easter egg printouts with glitter, tissue paper and coloured paper to put up on our room walls. The children have also been creating their own Easter cards to give to families, doing hand print chickens in eggs and decorating them. The children enjoyed potato stamp painting, creating Easter egg patterns. The children loved stamping the... potato’s onto the paper with some children smearing the paint over the paper with their potato stamps, mixing the colours of paint to create new colours developing their own ideas of how to create their own colours and patterns. The children showed confidence in being able to create by using their imagination. Many children using these experiences to explore their senses by feeling and smearing the paint onto the paper. Painting and art/craft activities allow children to express their creativity, develop fine motor skills and connect to the community through celebration. Children are able to use the sensory perception to imagine and create their own artworks Learning Outcomes: Children are confident and involved learners - explore & experiment, are creative & expressive. 10.01.2022 Hello families and friends! This week in the Iron Bark room we have been focusing on our school holiday program, which has involved a whole lot of fun activities and experiences which the children have been excited about. The children and educators got to come dressed up in their favourite pyjamas, and shared with their peers about what was on their tops and pants. The children also communicated to one another what colour they were as well, and expressed humor, happiness an...d satisfaction throughout the day. The children had a messy crafts day, where we celebrated the whole day doing messy play with the children. They explored with their hands as they rubbed the paint onto the board watching the paint go onto their hands and feeling the paint go through their fingers. The children communicated what they could see, hear, feel and touch as they would say paint, cold. The children also got to do cooking. They decorated teddy bear biscuits with a colour of their choice and sprinkled toppings on top. The children took turns, and expressed ideas and thoughts amongst their peers and educators around them as they asked for assistance when needed. The children got to make their own lunch which was pizza muffins, squeezing the sauce onto their muffin and choosing their own toppings. The children showed a lot of interest in this cooking experience, as they expressed through facial expressions they were excited and happy to be making pizzas. The children communicated amongst each other if it was yummy or not, building relationships with each other.

09.01.2022 Hello families & visitors! In the Iron Bark room the children have showed a great interest in water play, and wet weather play. We are extending on the children’s interest by implementing sustainability learning where the children will put their left over water into a container, by than watering the plants with the water. The children have showed an interest in the puddles from the rain that we have been getting, as they assisted the educators by grabbing a bucket and using... the bucket to pick up the water placing it into another container. The children used their ideas and imagination as they extended on their own knowledge from sustainability emptying this water onto our vegetable gardens in the yard. The children have enjoyed putting on their gum boots and splashing in the puddles, along with their friends sharing humor and happiness while exploring the wet weather. The Iron Bark children have been focusing on Easter activities and decorations, as we are getting closer to Easter, the children have chosen to colour in a bunny picture with colours they like as they use their own imagination, sharing their thoughts and ideas with their peers and educators. The children have been very busy little explorers around the room, with lots of activities to play and explore at.

09.01.2022 Remembrance Day 2020 "Today we celebrated and paid our respects to past and present soldiers for Remembrance Day. We offered numerous activities and experiences for the children to teach them about why this day is important for all.... First the centre gathered in the yard at 10.55am to sit together and listen to the Last Post and have a minutes silence at 11am. All the children were absolutely fantastic at sitting still and listening to the trumpets. We engaged in making paper plate poppies to display on our window and the children loved this activity. Lastly, the Silver Banksia's invited us to join them to watch a short clip on the big screen about what Remembrance Day is and why the Poppy is a symbol for it. The children asked lots of questions and were very mature in their thinking and theories." Bree "We watched a short informative video about why we use poppies to remember service men and women, and a lovely Remembrance Day animation that can be used as an alternative to the minutes silence with young children (produced by The BBC- well worth a look https://youtu.be/jeR5JWaIcpo ). 01.01.2022 #naidocweek2020 We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we are meeting. We pay my respects to the Elders, past and present, and the Aboriginal Elders of other communities who may be here today.’

01.01.2022 Are you stuck deciding between a traditional sessional based kinder, or a kinder program in a long day care setting for your child? Did you know Kids on Rennie provide a Kindergarten program with 2 Qualified Early Childhood teachers? The primary goal for any kindergarten program, is to provide a fun, safe, educational, and nurturing environment for your child, and a smooth transition into school life. Kindergarten in a long day care center can provide even more than this. ... The current Kids on Rennie Kindergarten program is open for enrolments for 2021 and beyond. - Our educational programs are designed to encourage progression in your child’s physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language skills. Like sessional kindergartens, we also follow the Early Years Learning Framework, and National standards, and are regularly assessed by our Regularly Authority. - We have 2 Bachelor qualified Early Childhood Teachers working directly with the children covering an 8-hour day. - We are open 12 hours a day, 5 days a week, including school holidays. We can support working families and busy daily routines with more flexible pick up and drop off times, allowing children time and space to reach the goals we set. - Healthy meals. Our full-time chef Harry provides not only government approved nutritional meals, but also spends time doing cooking classes focusing on nutrition and educational lessons around different types of food and where it comes from with all our children. Learning to try different types of foods, growing our own and sitting together at mealtimes is a daily learning opportunity. We also have Friday night take-home meals for families to purchase. - Fees we do not have kinder fees on top of our daily fee. The daily fee is covered by childcare subsidy. Families would just pay the normal gap fee. Free kindergarten is available for 15 hours to eligible families https://www.education.vic.gov.au//how-much-kindergarten-co - We provide care for 0-6 year olds. This can benefit families with younger children too, by having one drop off and pick up point, children can visit siblings during the day, and learn so much from interacting with a mixed an age range of peers. Older children have the opportunity to take responsibility and be leaders and role models to younger children, a valuable skill in confidence and communication when going into a school yard. Sometimes we can have all the information, but need to trust our instincts. We highly recommend coming in to see us, and even bring your child too. This way you can meet the teachers, see the classroom and play yard, and make an informed decision on what is best for your family. You are welcome anytime.
