23.01.2022 Happy Birthday Preeti for today Happy 4 th Birthday to Evie for tomorrow

23.01.2022 A big Welcome Back to many of our little friends and So good to have you stay and play Kids Own educators view children as confident involved learners. EYLF emphasises on 3 areas of Being Belonging & Becoming LO 2. Children are connected and contribute to their world. Children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation. ... While belonging fits the timing of returning to care and education for many of our children, it is wonderful to see the children have already settled back into care and reconnected with their friends and their surrounding. Having been away due to the pandemic, we see the importance of working on LO 3. Children become strong in their social and emotional well being. Many provocations designed for children’s play was this week & will be aimed to insure children’s social and emotional well being is at the centre stage for the remainder of the year and incorporating many other fun learning projects.

21.01.2022 We asked the children at Kids Own why do you love Christmas?

20.01.2022 Friendships and children’s wellbeing Friendship matters for young children’s development, learning and experience of wellbeing. Our Nursery is a calm, quiet and, above all, a safe space where young children can enjoy one-on-one moments with our educators, develop their connections, build trust and have all their daily needs met.... In this group the children love to explore their immediate environment. Our group leader Preeti provides an environment which invites and encourage the children to use their senses to discover and build their knowledge. With many Opportunities for children to explore their emerging recognition of self, with mirrors, photos and educator interactions. As the children approach the age of two, they begin to transition in to our Toddler Room. Here, the identity of each child is beginning to emerge and they are starting to see themselves as independent beings. They begin to explore through touch, to see what they like and how things work around them. Our Kids Own educators always playing an active role in provoking the children’s inner curiosity to explore the inviting and purposeful environments around them.

20.01.2022 Dress-up engages your child’s brain and memory. Dramatic play requires kids to remember what they’ve seen or heard. They remember how their mother behaves when performing household chores when they are imitating her. Or they recall the details of a fairy tale they’ve heard before acting it out. Brain development is only one of the benefits of this activity

15.01.2022 "Children learn through play & more importantly, in play, children learn how to learn" It's so wonderful to see the looks of concentration on the children's faces as our young friends are playing, discovering new things and growing. At Kids Own we take every opportunity to intentionally teach and allow children to use their imagination at play. Through provocations children explore many different aspects of early development and develop their own skills for a life long learning journey that is yet to come.

14.01.2022 Empathy is the ability to imagine how someone else is feeling in a particular situation and respond with care. This is a very complex skill to develop. Understanding and showing empathy is the result of many social-emotional skills that are developing in the first years of life. Kids Own Educators play their active part in this process by:... Establishing a secure, strong, loving relationship with children in their care so that children are Feeling accepted and understood by adults helps children learn how to accept and understand others as they grow.. Being able to empathize with another person means that a child: Understands that he is a separate individual, his/her own person; Understands that others can have different thoughts and feelings than he/she has; Recognizes the common feelings that most people experiencehappiness, surprise, anger, disappointment, sadness, etc.; Is able to look at a particular situation (such as watching a peer saying good-bye to a parent at child care) and imagine how she /heand therefore his friendmight feel in this moment; and Can imagine what response might be appropriate or comforting in that particular situationsuch as offering his/her friend a favorite toy or teddy bear to comfort her/him.

13.01.2022 Vocabulary Building is one of the many benefits of Dress-up play. This play builds vocabulary as a child decides what his or her character would say. It gives them a chance to expand their vocabularies with words and phrases that they might have heard in stories, but wouldn’t ordinarily use. Children are then encourage by Kids Own educators to use these new words in conversations.

13.01.2022 It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas ‘We know that the environment plays a significant role as the third teacher in developing and supporting children’s learning,’ Sahel Kaur Riazati our Kids Own Kindergarten teacher explains. ‘We aim to create an atmosphere that encourages children to be inclusive of others and be respectful of all living things. We provide the children with purposeful connections to the world around them and recognise them as active citizens in o...ur society.’ A ‘third teacher’ that promotes independent exploration, collaboration and learning through discovery and play. Environment is an integral part of the curriculum, reflecting the identity and cultures of our children and families, and promoting independent exploration, collaboration and learning through discovery and play. Below the children enjoyed exploring and decorating our Christmas tree. So much fun and so much to look forward to. Enjoy

13.01.2022 Young children thrive when they have secure, positive relationships with adults who are knowledgeable about how to support their development and learning. The science of child development and early learning makes clear the importance and complexity of working with young children from infancy through the early schooling years. Research during the past decade has revealed much about how children learn and develop. Studies have shown that early childhood is a time when developme...ntal changes are happening that can have profound and lasting consequences for a child’s future. While people have long debated whether nature or nurture plays the stronger role in child development, recent studies reveal the importance of how the two influence each other as a child develops: what a child experiences and is exposed to interacts with his or her underlying biological makeup. Research has also shown that much more is going on cognitively, socially, and emotionally in young children including infants than scientists or care and education professionals previously knew. Even in their earliest years, children are starting to learn about their world in sophisticated ways that are not always reflected in their outward behavior. Learning and development for young children is both rapid and cumulative, continuously laying a foundation for later learning.

06.01.2022 EARLY YEARS LAST FOREVER The quantity and quality of language children experience in their interactions with parents, peers and their educators during their earliest months and years has a profound and potentially lasting influence on their language and cognitive development as well as social interactions and inclusion in the world. Is play trivial? A frivolity to make time for only after the serious business of learning is done? No, it's a key part of a child's education. ... In fact play is one of the key ways in which children develop relationships with others and begin to understand how the social world works".

06.01.2022 Congratulations to Our raffle winner of 2020 is Ryder Glascott & Harlo Glascott Merry Christmas everyone and thank you for getting involved we raised $120 and donated a total of $240 to the Monash Childrens Hospital.

05.01.2022 Our little learners at Kids Own had an amazing week of learning and discovering last week. The learning began with NAIDOC Week celebrations. Celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. On Wednesday 11th at 11am the children observed a Minute of silence in honour of Rememberamce Day. LEST WE FORGET. Friday the final day of the week, the children celebrated Diwali (festival of Lights) with their friends. It was a busy and fun learning week. We wish all our Indian friends a HAPPY DIWALI once again and hope they enjoyed the weekends festivities. This week the children will have many more fun adventures planed and what's even more exciting is that we begin our graduation preparation for our Kindergarteners.

05.01.2022 TRANSPORTING SCHEMA This week Kids Own would like to take you on a journey to explore the transporting schema. The transporting schema takes you places. At a time when we are staying home and travel is very limited it is interesting to explore a schema that transports us to different spaces and places whilst staying close to home. The transporting schema is easy to spot in your children. When children are in this schema, from infants onwards, you will recognise it by their sh...eer joy in taking objects from one place to another. Children may fill their pockets with items such as little toys, stones, jewels etc. They may fill buckets and containers with various objects. They may push or pull trolleys, boxes, prams, toy trucks. Infants, Toddlers and Pre-schoolers may offer you things such as a game of serve and return and ‘ta’ or perhaps play games such as packing their bags for a holiday, sorting items into different sorting boxes, moving large blocks for block play, or transporting items around the room to arrange a play scenario. This schema can provide large stretches of independent play and particularly at a time when many families are working from home, this schema can have your child engaged in play the whole day through as long as you don’t mind a little mess! To support his schema you may wish to offer these items to your child. Buckets Baskets Little boxes Trailers Dump trucks Prams Wheelbarrows Tricycles Sand with diggers, spades, buckets Loose Parts Blocks Scarves Language to support your child's learning. This is directly related to the science of motion, gravity and physics! Science is everywhere in your child's world and the words you use will support and extend their innate sense of curiosity and wonder about the world around them. Words you may use are: push and pull here and there heavy and light

05.01.2022 Here is some special drawings the children did for their educators We love them lots

04.01.2022 Share a photo of your Pet below in the comment While our pet Budgies at Kids Own are bit shy, Walnut my pet is more then happy to be photographed. Having a pet gives children the opportunity to observe, interact and learn about animals. It can be a valuable part of a child’s education and care experience, enriching their learning about nature, ecology and relationships.... Encouraging direct contact and developing bonds with animals, can help children build empathy (Thompson and Gullone, 2003, p.175). Providing children with access to animals in an education and care service can help them learn about the life cycle and relationships, and improve communication. Element 3.2.3 The service cares for the environment and supports children to become environmentally responsible.

04.01.2022 Yesterday we got a special visitor drop by our centre for the first time . Chloe brought Lincoln in to show all of the staff and children. They were very excited to finally be able to meet Lincoln

03.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day Kids Own would like to wish all the dads, grandfathers and other fatherly caregivers in our wonderful community a very special Father's Day on Sunday. You all play such a critical role in ensuring the emotional and physical well-being of the young children in your care and your commitment and love for them is so appreciated. At this difficult and ever-changing time of COVID-19, we realise how essential the care and concern of our families, friends and n...eighbours are to our ability to cope with the restrictions of everyday life. I know many families in our school community are experiencing ill-health, physical isolation, financial loss and job insecurity within their immediate and extended families. There are also the extra stresses of distance-learning and working from home as families live, work, learn and relax together. Through all this, the continuous support (and patience!) of parents and carers is so important. So a big thank you for being you and for all that you do

03.01.2022 Welcome Spring Friendly Reminder to our wonderful families; all children attending kids Own will be required to be provided with an appropriate sun hat and clothing as well as a sunscreen cream if there is sensitivees or allergies. This is in place from today the first day of spring as per Sunscreen policy.... Sunsmart refresher steps with Kids Own children over the course of the week will be as followed; Set up a sunscreen station - pump pack or roll on (they are usually easier to use) and have a mirror available so children can see what they are doing. Visit sunsmart.com.au to see an example of a sunscreen station in action for children to view. Appoint sunscreen buddies so children can help each other. Apply sunscreen to all parts of skin not covered by clothing. Try to apply 20 minutes before going outside. Reapply sunscreen every TWO hours (even if the label states 4 hours protection). Check the sunscreen’s use by date and store sunscreen under 30 degrees. Store sunscreen in a cool place. Please note SPF 50 is used within the centre.

01.01.2022 Welcome to our first post of 2021 everyone. In this post we would like to begin by focusing on our toddler group 2-3 years. How does playing with other children affect toddlers' language learning ? A question we are often asked by families of Kids Own In a research released July 10, 2019 by the University of Waterloo. it is evident that Toddlers are surprisingly good at processing the speech of other young children And toddlers who have more exposure to other children, such... as those in early learning centres may be particularly good at certain word learning skills. Although all of the toddlers were very good at processing child speech, the study found that toddlers who had more exposure to other children were better at associating a new word to a new object, an important part of word learning. Child speech differs from adult speech in many ways. Even a child who is six or seven years old pronounces words a bit differently than adults. "We wanted to know if more exposure hearing other children speak would affect toddlers' ability to process child speech," said Katherine White, professor of psychology at Waterloo, who co-authored the study with PhD candidate, Dana Bernier. Our Kids Own Educators will always play an active part by promoting the children’s language & literacy skills through challenging and inviting play. For specific information regarding your child/ren please speak to our skilled group leaders.

01.01.2022 Prep in 2021 Schools will be ready for our children to commence
