25.01.2022 Child protection week at KPA As it’s child protection week the educators discussed ways to protect ourselves and make us safe. Together we came up with a list of things that make us feel safe, They included our mummies, daddies, siblings, superheroes, cuddles, and our soft toys. ... We discussed our safety rule posters that talked about how to stay safe and protected by talking to our parents about our feelings, asking for help when using scissors and putting on helmets when riding bicycles. We also practiced saying lines like, No I don’t like it, stranger danger, and help, when we feel unsafe. This was then portrayed through an art activity of making our protective shields to protect ourselves from any harm, Some of the children engaged in a pretend play of policemen by dressing up as policemen and protecting their friends from any possible danger. The children shared their understanding of emotions and feelings by engaging in a cutting and matching game where they have to recognise and are able to read emotions of others, the children learnt to recognise simple words like angry, excited, sad, happy and many more. 22.01.2022 After the children responded to our native reptile show with strong interest, The Astronauts continued this emerging interest by following up with snake themed racing. The snakes were created by linking rings of paper together until we were satisfied with the length and adding a pull string to the end. 20.01.2022 Following on from NAIDOC Week, we had a visit from our new friend Mary the ranger and her native Australian bush buddies. These special guests included a blue tongue lizard, mum and bub ring tailed possums, an owl, a baby crocodile, a turtle, a diamond python snake and examples of their homes such as logs and different tree branches. The children created the Indian flag and learnt to say Namaste meaning hello in Hindi before exploring the event of ‘Holi’ the festival of colours. The Rockets had so much fun experimenting with a cabbage and its juice for a science experiment. We soaked the red cabbage in warm water, and then added different liquids to individual pieces such as water with sugar in it, white vinegar, and lemonade. Using salt dough, the children participated in moulding and decorating decorative Easter eggs. After the Astros had helped mix the ingredients for the dough, they each took a bit to work with. We participated in measuring the weight of objects from our learning environment on a balance board scale to determine what was heaviest and lightest. We experimented by drawing pictures and letters with our glue then shaking salt over the glue drawings/letters to display a work of art, it was such a creative imaginative activity that we thoroughly enjoyed
