22.01.2022 Follow your child's lead and imitate their sounds, words and actions. This shows them that their communication has been heard and that it's fun to take turns. It also encourages your child to copy your words

21.01.2022 Toddlers love to build up, knock down, pull apart, add on and create. Choose toys that are 'open ended' - that can be used in a variety of ways e.g. blocks can be used to create a road, a farm yard, or a spaceship. Toys like nesting blocks or water play toys are great for sparking your child's imagination, developing thinking skills and problem solving....and are easy to talk about!

17.01.2022 3 year olds should:- - use talking as their main form of communication but also some gestures and pointing - understand yes/no questions - ask why questions - be understood by friends and family... - enjoy listening to books being read and telling stories - count to 3 - talk about events that have occurred or will occur - use i, we, he and she when talking about themselves and others - use plurals when talking about more than one item e.g. two cats Please call me if you have any concerns about your child's communication ph 9894 0885 See more

13.01.2022 Young children point, make eye contact, and use body language to give us messages. Recognizing, encouraging, and positively reinforcing these precursors to language set the stage for speech production and language to come.

13.01.2022 What are your favourite Christmas books to read to your little ones?

13.01.2022 This is one of my FAVOURITE children's books Sit back and enjoy

12.01.2022 So very important to consider right now

12.01.2022 Try not to tell your child what to do during playtime - instead describe their actions. Say things like 'squish the playdough', or 'you're making a beautiful princess dress' or 'the princess is dancing in her new dress' - maybe the princess wasn't dancing, but just being moved to a different location, but you are giving your child a new concept to consider

12.01.2022 3 year old children can use and understand a variety of words in their talking. Be concerned if your 3 year old:- + is frustrated when trying to talk + has a short attention span + is only using 2 word sentences + does not seem to understand what you say... + does not look at others when they are talking + has speech that is difficult for others to understand Please call me if you have any concerns about your child's communication ph 9894 0885 See more

10.01.2022 Everyone had fun decorating the new Christmas tree today!

10.01.2022 Routines are a very effective parenting tool and lead to a peaceful calm household

09.01.2022 Try not to constantly ask questions and answer them yourself - give your child the time and space to initiate chat. Wait for them to have a turn. Turns don’t need to be talking, either. A turn could be your child handing you a toy or making eye contact. Maybe your child will look at you because she needs help opening a box. Say You need help opening the box! and then WAIT for her to hand you the box. Turn taking can be tricky for parents, but it is important to give your child the opportunity to use the skills they are developing.

09.01.2022 Playing with sounds is a great way to help your toddler learn to talk and Christmas songs bring lovely repetitive sound play ideas. Try:- * ho ho ho * fa la la la lal la la la la (from Deck the Halls). You can change the sounds to da da da or na na na na na * rum pa pa pum - pretend to be playing a drum as you walk around (from Little Drummer Boy) * Jingle Bells can tricky for early learners but it finishes with 'Hey'. Make your 'hey' loud and boisterous!... * Ding ding ding every time you see Christmas bells - there are so many to spot! * 'Wow' as you drive around spotting Christmas lights. Above all have fun! If you are at all concerned about your child's speech sounds please call See more

08.01.2022 3 year old children should be able to understand + complex instructions e.g. 'find the flower and put it in the bucket' + simple wh questions such as 'What is this?' or 'Where's dolly?' + what items are used for e.g. 'show me something that we can eat' + parts of objects e.g. wheels on a car, legs on a dog... Please call if you are concerned about your child's comprehension and communication ph 9894 0885 See more

08.01.2022 When your daughter says big block, as she is hitting the blocks together, you can expand on that by saying, Yes, bang the big block' If your son says, The dragon jumping on the bed, you can recast his grammar by saying, The dragon is jumping on the bed. Use stress and intonation to highlight the words you want your child to focus on

08.01.2022 There are many things that you can do to foster your 3 year old's communication. + talk about places and experiences before you go, while you are there, and when you get home + give your child opportunities to play with other children + Let your child do things for themselves and be there as a guide if they get frustrated + read picture books together... + look at your child when they talk to you. + do things together - cook, complete craft, paint and draw, make block towers with your child + limit time on smart devices If you have any concerns about your child's development please call me ph 9894 0885 See more

07.01.2022 Your little one may point to an interesting toy and vocalise by saying 'ba', but you may not be sure they have used a 'real word'. Give their communication meaning by interpreting their sounds and actions - respond by saying something like 'Ball. Lots of balls'

05.01.2022 Need some Christmas gift ideas? Here's some of our favourites

04.01.2022 Combine a fun family outing to the zoo with developing your child's oral language skills. Play Feathers Fur or Fins? in the car. One person thinks of an animal and tells the others whether it has feathers, fur or fins. The other family members must ask yes and no questions to guess the animal e.g. does it have spots? Have fun!!

03.01.2022 Share some photos of your child's latest creation. What did they make? Art and craft are great ways to encourage communication

02.01.2022 Yes yes yes and yes!

01.01.2022 Have fun hiding toys around the room and using words like 'in', 'on', 'under', 'next to', 'in front' and 'behind'. Ask your child to tell you where teddy is hiding and expect him to use these words too
