25.01.2022 Finding the Lorax update - today we went on another adventure to find the Lorax and to our surprise today we found new clues - a sign and a picture that said I speak for the trees stuck to a cut off tree stump and then when we got closer to the tree we think the Lorax lives in we found footprints - orange footprints. Lastly when we sat and discussed our findings we looked up at the tree and saw that a branch had been cut and on the branch it looked like a black footprint .... Could it be from the Onceler??? The Lorax mystery continues

25.01.2022 THE BEACH HUT This afternoon some of the children participated in Art with Mel. We are lucky enough to have Mel join us every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday now EVERY WEEK! Today they worked on an artwork together taking turns in painting different sections each. We can then continue this artwork during the week as an ongoing experience. Today they worked on drawing and painting a Monstera leaf.

25.01.2022 The Starfish Children have been learning lots about the Aborginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures particularly about their use of signs and symbols in their art and stories. We have also talked lots about Bush Tucker. After throwing Boomerangs the children decided that they wanted to make their own Boomerangs and decorate them with stories using the signs and symbols. Following on from this we have Renees cousin Buddy coming today to show the children how to throw a real Boomerang and talk about his culture.

20.01.2022 WOW, Wasn't Monday a jam packed day! We designed our own happy rocks, we made slime, we celebrated Lydia's birthday with her AND we had a visit from the Bowen Fire Department! The children were able to sit in the firetruck, look at all the equipment AND we even got to have a race to see who could get dressed quicker and use the fire hose to reach the big orange cone! We were also lucky enough to get some souvenirs to take home! A big thank you again to Chris and his crew for making the kids day so special!

19.01.2022 Last term the Starfish Reef Guardian Superheroes learnt about six elements that negatively affect the Great Barrier Reef and made their own Sad List. From this Sad list they had to chose a job that they were going to achieve as a Reef Guardian Superhero. They drew and painted themselves as a Superhero which will also be used as a transfer for their capes which they begin sewing this week. The children have all had a turn at reading their own stories as they can identify with the pictures from the Sad List.

19.01.2022 What an awesome day yesterday, we asked Wes from Wes Bau Personal Training to do a boxing Mu Thai seminar at The Beach Hut! He taught the kids traditional Mu T...hai stance and name of elbow, kneeing and kicks also greeting and thank you all in Thai language. Before they started they did warm ups. While Wes was working with one child the other children were doing push-ups, squat jumps, star jumps and burpees. When they were finished for the morning they then did warm downs as Wes said it’s very important. Thanks so much again Wes, the boys loved it and said how great it was! See more

18.01.2022 The Starfish Children had a problem on Friday some of the children were wasting paper which lead to the discussion about where paper comes from - trees and if we cut down all the trees we will have no oxygen to breathe. This started a discussion about the Lorax and how he speaks for the trees To our surprise when we arrived this morning the Lorax book and a Lorax Map was sitting on the mat surrounded by magic sparkles We decided to follow the map after we all made our own maps and to our surprise we found 2 clues a stump surrounded by rocks which had a message on it UNLESS and secondly orange fluff stuck in the tree it must be from the Lorax

17.01.2022 School Holidays *Week 1* Since it was such a busy week with lots of amazing things to do i had trouble fitting all the photos in one post, so ill first put Monday & Tuesday photos up! Monday we had 'Art with Mel' where the children got to create different sea animals with white clay, they then went for a walk to find some natural objects they could use for coral and then they started painting them. Tuesday we had Wes Bau form Wes Bau Personal Training come in to do some different techniques with the kids (Videos have been uploaded) and we also got to celebrate Lily's birthday with her. Some children also made their own kites then tested them in the wind to see if they worked! What a great few days!

Ross kindly takes them to the Recycle Depot when the bin fills up and gets money back for them. Through this experience they are learning about a sustainable future and contribute constructively to mathematical discussions, learning about addition and how to save up to buy something. A special thanks to all the families for bring in cans and bottles to recycle. It has been a huge effort and a special thanks to James and Miranda’s family for donating some of their own money they received from recycling at the recycling depot. James and Miranda got to test it out to make sure it was working right after Lee gave it a safety check and the thumbs up!

11.01.2022 THE BEACH HUT On Wednesday the children had a very busy day! We got a special visitor, Sergeant Michelle from PCYC brought bee’s in from Stackelroth farms. We got to look at the native bees and honey bees she brought in and we found out some pretty cool information about them as well and we even got to try the 2 different kinds of honey to taste the difference. Thank you so much Sergeant Michelle, the kids loved every minute and we even got to take a little container of honey home! Then since it was ‘Art with Mel’ today that inspired the children with their artworks. They did some paint pouring to create the background on their canvas before drawing and painting a silhouette bee when the background dried.

11.01.2022 What a busy couple of days so far at the Beach Hut! On Monday the kids made signs for the bike day today with Ross and then painted them. Tuesday we had a big art day with Mel. The children made a very colourful tree painting, hung up some clay animals on the mural and they also finished painting their road signs!

10.01.2022 THE BEACH HUT DON’T FORGET tomorrow is bike and scooter day! You can also bring rollerblades if that’s what you prefer. As we are unsure on what the weather is doing tomorrow please bring a spare pair of clothes JUST IN CASE SEE YOU THEN!

10.01.2022 Last Thursday was the Starfish Children's Bunyip Hunt. The children had made a map of the possible bridges in Bowen that the Bunyip might live under. We all dressed up as Bunyips as it was the children's plan to become friends with the Bunyip when they found him as they thought he looked lonely in the story. Travelling by bus the children visited 5 bridges and under the last bridge at Muller's Lagoon the children found the Bunyip. When the children got to the back of M...uller's Lagoon they knew they were on the right track as they found a trail of green footprints and some green arrows. After they found the Bunyip they asked him if he wanted to come to the park for a picnic. The Bunyip had 'kangaroo sausages,' Bunyip juice and a cup cake with green icing and 'Magic Midnight Sparkles.' Not long after the Bunyip finished eating he showed and told us he had to go to the bathroom as he was busting. We all waited for his return and to our surprise instead of the Bunyip Grandma Poss arrived. The children thought about this and they came up with the theory that the 'Magic Midnight Sparkles' had not only grown him a possum tail it had magical turned him into Grandma Poss!! See more

Music ignites all areas of child development and skills for school readiness, including intellectual, social-emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy. This is the childrens retell of the story using some Aboriginals signs and symbols for waterhole, emu and kangaroo.
