10.01.2022 Applications have closed Hi my name is Scout and I’m a sweet natured, water loving, loyal German Shepherd. Scout loves to be with her family and enjoys pla...ying in water or chasing her ball. Scout needs a family who are home most of the time or who are willing to continue to work on her separation anxiety. She has made good progress but will need continued work. She is a very smart girl who has been easily trained to sit, wait, come, high five. She is eager to please and enjoys training. She will happily run beside her owner on a lead but if walking is more your thing she loves to walk at your pace and stop to sniff along the way. She loves to be inside and outside but ultimately wherever her family is she will be keeping an eye on them. She will sleep on the floor by your bed but would happily sleep on the bed if you would allow it. She is fabulous with children and loves to watch them play or snuggle in their bed to say goodnight. Scout only barks when required. She patrols the yard at night, keeps the birds out by day and barks at unfamiliar people. However, she is friendly with new guests to the house. Scout would need access to a shell pool to play in as her favourite thing to do is splash in water. She also knocks over any small buckets of water that are available to her, thus easily leaving her without water. Scout has been given many experiences in her short time with us and is always excited to experience new things with her family. She will make a great pet for anyone willing to spend lots of time with her. 06.01.2022 SO JUST HOW LONG DO YOUR PET’S SHOTS LAST? Definitely longer than a year! According to the top pet immunologist (aka vaccine expert) in the world, Dr. Ronald Sc...hultz, Ph.D. Annual revaccination provides no benefit and may increase the risk for adverse reactions. What the heck are adverse reactions (or side effects)? Well according to the other rock star pet immunologist Dr. Jean Dodds: Side effects from dog vaccinations can occur anywhere from instantly up to several weeks or months later. Vaccines can even cause susceptibility to chronic diseases that appear much later in a dog’s life (Dodd, 2001). Severe and fatal adverse reactions include: Susceptibility to infections. Neurological disorders and encephalitis. Aberrant behavior, including unprovoked aggression. Vaccines are linked to seizures. Distemper, parvovirus, rabies and, presumably, other vaccines have been linked with poly neuropathy, a nerve disease that involves inflammation of several nerves. (Dodds,2001) SO HOW LONG EXACTLY DOES YOUR PET’S VACCINE LAST? According to the recommendations of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), (basically the dudes who set the standards for the vets): Among healthy dogs, all commercially available [core] vaccines are expected to induce a sustained protective immune response lasting at least 5 yr. thereafter Here’s the breakdown of the core vaccines from Dr. Ronald Schultz: Minimum Duration of Immunity for Canine Vaccines: Distemper- 7 years by challenge Parvovirus 7 years by challenge Adenovirus 7 years by challenge Canine rabies 3 years by challenge The moral of the story here, if you have no idea when your pet is due or has been vaccinated, then just run a titer test and this will confirm if you are due, rather than over-vaccinate your poor pet, setting the stage for future problems! What’s a titer test? A titer test (pronounced tight-errr) is a laboratory or in-house veterinary test measuring the existence and level of antibodies (necessary to fight off disease) in your pet’s blood. Basically, it’s a test that will tell you whether or not you actually need to vaccinate your pet. It’s also super useful when making a decision about vaccinating a pet with an unknown vaccination history, or for determining if pets have received immunity from vaccination. Vaccinating your pet is super important so don’t lose the overall message here: VACCINATE, JUST DON’T OVER-VACCINATE! According to Dr. Dodds: Vaccines have achieved many important benefits for companion animals, and has saved more animals' lives than any other medical advance. Want more on titer testing? Check it out: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153271303942028&set=pb.509362027.-2207520000.1461100680.&type=3&theater Rodney Habib "An educated, informed and well-researched community of pet owners can only put more pressure on the pet food industry to be better! When pet owners know better, they will only do better!"

04.01.2022 RANT WARNING - I was online and saw this: $7500 Bernadoodle, $3500 Shepadoodle, $4000 Bodation (Border collie X Dalmation). What the heck is going on?! These se...lf-proclaimed ‘Designer Breeds’ are NOT real registered breeds and they are causing the devaluation of legitimate purebred dogs. You can purchase a PUREBRED dog for half the price! A reputable, ethical breeder will painstakingly study their dog’s pedigree, do genetic testing, health/disease testing, behavioural/temperament testing and purposely match sires with bitches according to these many factors in order to control the next generation to the best of their ability. Often times, breeders will sacrifice on ‘pretty colour patterns’ or trivial aesthetic traits to ensure the more important health and temperament traits. We used to pay a high price tag for purebred dogs because of this type of meticulous control and long history of records and standardization. Why then, would Joe Blow let his Poodle mate with literally any other random breed creating some sort of ‘Oodle’ or ‘Poo’ suddenly market his dogs an expensive ‘exotic designer breed’? Folks, this is what we used to call mutts/crosses/hybrids; there’s nothing exotic about it. Nothing wrong with a good old Mixed Breed. Nothing wrong with a wonderful mutt but there is something very wrong about Con Artist Joe, who demands an ‘extra $500 for blue eyes’ on top of the $3500 for this ‘rare Shepadoodle breed’. If you’re going to shell out your hard-earned money, think carefully about the value you are getting for your dollars. What exactly are you paying for? Food for thought.

02.01.2022 Miss Quintessence came to school pick up for socialisation.

01.01.2022 I copied this, hopefully to spread the important information. ATTENTION ALL PUPPY BUYERS!!! This post is especially important given the fact there are so many ...other "registries" that exist for dog breeding in Australia now. These new registries are the MDBA (Master Dog Breeders Association), the AAPDB (Australian Association of Pet Dog Breeders), the RPBA ( Responsible Pet Breeding Australia), and a new one NCPI (National Companion Pets Institute). Breeders with these, will advertise and make claim they are a registered breeder. The most notorious being breeders with the MDBA and AAPDB. Those with MDBA also state their pups come with pedigree papers. Do not be fooled. They are NOT legitimate registered breeders. All of these mobs have taken advantage of the loop holes Australian Laws have with commercial animal/pet breeding, puppy farming and BYBs. And have then commenced taking advantage of fools who become members, as well as the general public. When all the while they have been established to encourage puppy farming and BYB. Anyone who claims to have regular RSPCA audits, AWL audits, vet audits, you name it, should be AVOIDED. And the majority of people with these mobs will always state that they are. The RSPCA and AWL are highly against commercial breeding of animals after all, so why they would audit and accept any breeding facility, begs to raise questions. Being MEMBERS of these "registries", seems to also give the breeders justification for higher than average puppy prices. Yet reputable ANKC, are no where near this. Please also note, that members of the RPBA and NCPI have no benefits, other than being a member of a scamming organisation. The other two are built for puppy farmers by puppy farmers. If you are after a registered puppy, my advice is to ALWAYS seek help from ANKC breeders, check with your state/territory ANKC body, and dogzonline (not dogsonline, as this is the MDBA rip off). Please PLEASE don't be fooled with the difference between a LEGITIMATE registered breeder, and a FALSE registered greeder!

24.12.2021 Hi, this is my first post and it’s taken me 5 months to be able to speak about what happened to us. In November of 2020 the vets collectively decided it was be...st that our beautiful almost 3 year old boy be put to sleep. One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do as he was the most loving, beautiful, hugger you could wish for. For the first year of his life I stupidly and unknowingly gave him Bravecto. At around 10-11 months of age he began having quick aggressive turns. By quick I mean 5 seconds and then he would become my beautiful placid boy again. Over the next almost 2 years the aggression became worse but not the length of them. He was attacking our other gorgeous boy and then started to attack us. At the end of the attack you could see his eyes become clearer and he would look up at me as if to say ‘what did I just do?’ It broke me over and over. He would take himself outside as punishment and sit by himself. We went to many veterinarians, neurologist, behavioural etc etc we tried many drugs and many combinations but nothing was working. He was diagnosed finally with Focal Seizures and his actual seizures were the aggressive episodes. I feel so guilty that I did this to my beautiful boy and I will never forgive myself. Sorry for the long post and thank you to those that read this. After 5 months I can finally tell my story but I will never have peace with it. This is my beautiful boy Freddie See more

11.12.2021 Unscrupulous breeders are taking you for a ride, they're taking your hard earned money for cross breed dogs you belie...ve are purebred because of Embark DNA testing. Embark testing is a handy tool for families of cross bred rescue dogs to learn more about the 'ancestry' of their dog - it's handy because you get an idea of what breeds are in your dog so you can understand their breed traits better and in-turn get a better idea of how to train and biologically fulfill them. What Embark is NOT is a testing service to confirm a dog is a purebred so if a breeder is using a DNA report to prove to you their dog is pure you need to run very fast - the way to confirm a dog is purebred is by its Australian National Kennel Club (ANKC) Pedigree Papers. There are 'alternative' registries that have popped up over time such as MDBA, this is where breeders who can't or don't want to register their dogs with ANKC for whatever reason sit - so that should be a red flag for you to at least investigate further. If Pedigree papers mean nothing to you, then that's cool, just understand the money you're paying could be for a cross-bred dog and if you're paying for let's say a Merle long coated French Bull dog for $10-20,000 that might not be a good investment. ' ? Embark's breed ancestry analysis incorporates a unique algorithm to create a breed population genetic signature based on a reference panel of registered dogs of a single breed. This analysis does not take into account phenotype (coat color, size, muzzle length, etc.) and can typically identify recent admixture to the great-grandparent level or to a breed contribution of 5%. Thus, when determining breed ancestry, they look at sections of DNA that are identical by descent (IBD). These segments of DNA are inherited from a common ancestor, and their lengths reflect the time back to the common ancestor of that segment of DNA. This information is compared to a reference panel of dogs and analysed to determine breed composition. Because these segments get shorter and shorter every generation, Embark are limited to determining ancestry back to 2-3 generations (typically great-grandparent level). What this means is that a breeder could have out-crossed to another breed to bring in different traits such as the Merle pattern, tan points, long coat etc. and then gone back and bred to the original purebred dog for a few more generations until the Embark test is no longer able to pick up the breed signature of the out-crossed breed. So within just a few generations, a breeder has gone from a dog that could be sold for let's say $4,000 to a dog now that can be sold for $10-$20,000. It should certainly be a red flag to you if a breed is being sold for more than an ANKC registered show dog. When you purchase a pedigree dog, you are purchasing predictable breed traits i.e. how a dog should act which is very important for a family pet or simply a lover of a certain breed. When a breeder out-crosses to another breed then that predictability is removed. Not all breeds go well together, they may have conflicting drives i.e. cross breed a herding breed with a hunting breed and you may end up with some pretty serious behaviour issues due to drive conflicts. If you want to purchase an on-trend breed such as the French Bulldog and you want to make sure it is actually pure, then I would recommend you select an ANKC breeder and choose one that does health testing such as Hips, elbows, spine and then the relevant DNA testing - https://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/dog-breeders.asp

01.12.2021 Do NOT feed your dog or cat any Christmas Ham This is a reminder we run this time every year. "Christmas ham and ham bones are a huge no-no, the Animal Referra...l & Emergency Centre says. The fat and salt content of this delicious Christmas treat will wreak havoc on the gastrointestinal system of our beloved furry family members. "[Also,] often our pets will have increased access to chocolate, grapes, nuts and fruit cake, which are all capable of causing serious and sometimes life-threatening illness." This poor dog pictured is Gordie - in 2017 he ate an ENTIRE 2.2KG Christmas ham. His owners brought him in to the vet for help. : Animal Referral & Emergency Centre
